At the Mountains of Madness is my favourite Lovecraft story by far, and I was so sad that my boy del Toro's film adaptation never got off the ground. Going to grab this as a consolation, it looks awesome.
I have seen Lovecraft adapted into comics before, but no one does it as well as Gou Tanabe. He really gets the cosmic horror of the original stories. Thanks for the advance view of the hard cover edition.

This looks beautiful. Hopefully we won’t have to wait 4 years for a deluxe editions of Call of Cthulhu and Shadow Over Innsmouth. Shadow was way too big of a book for the smaller format and suffered from a lot of gutter loss. Also hope DH picks up the pace on the Tanabe translations and we get Shadow Out of Time soon.
I'm so glad you were able to review this before your trip! I have the small trades of this but this larger format is a better showcase for Tanabe's amazing art. Definitely getting this deluxe version. I have The Shadow Over Innsmouth adapted by Tanabe in the small trade size too and that deserves the large deluxe treatment too! Thanks Omar!

Thanks for the overview. It’s on my to-buy list, likely will pick it up after release. I believe Tanabe did a few other Lovecraft adaptions. Any word of possible another deluxe edition of those combined?
They probably will. Asked on X and it depends on sales. Also Darkhorse delays everything like trigun that was 1 year delay and mob psycho 100 still needs a couple of volumes

Super stoked that these Gou Tanabe gems are getting the Dark Horse giant hardcover treatment. They deserve it. I assume we'll be getting more of Tanabe's Lovecraft work in further volumes. I look forward to collecting them

Does the foil gilding on the edges of the book block wear off? I don't want it to stick to my fingers and stain the book. The paper looks very thin. I gess the print on the backside can be seen in the white area of the word balloons. This appears in some other books from Dark Horse.

I'm getting it anyway but i actually liked the minimalist design of the other DH covers. I guess they'll eventually run out of colors though.
Dark Horse should get the rights for every Salvador Sanz comic and make some nice Deluxe editions. For Every Berserk and LoveCraft Fan his work is a Must Have. Salvador Sanz!!

Lovecraft is considered "cosmic horror". There is definitely a horror element. His work is full of horrific ancient beings, forces. There is suspense as well. His stories revolve around normal men and women stumbling upon dark shadowy things beyond their comprehension.

He wrote a few novels, but mostly short stories and what would become known as novellas, this is obviously a manga adaptation of the story - words by Lovecraft but filtered through the art and storytelling of Gou Tanabe
