This is the best live performance I have ever witnessed. And I have seen and heard a TON of great artists over my 60 years. Tower of Power, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Yes, Steely Dan, Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Mel Torme, Al DiMeola, Jaco Pastorius, the list goes on and on and on... HOWEVER... Both live performances of Hiromi that I have witnessed are the absolute top-shelf, gold-box performances I have ever seen or heard. This trio is transcendental! Sublime! Music formed at the core of the soul.

HAHAHA.....THIS IS A TOTAL U.F.O. MAN !!!!!......I'LL TELL YOU THIS....SHE IS COMING OUT OF CHIC COREA' SCHOOL NO DOUBT....ALSO, I CAN HEAR IN SOME OF HER TUNES PASSAGES FROM EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER.....I LOVE HER, SHE IS INCREDIBLE, VERSATILE TO THE MAX AND CREATIVITY A PLENTY, GOD BLESS HER.....WONDERFUL GIFT....... BASS AND DRUMMER INCREDIBLE.....I KNOW ANTHONY JACKSON FROM OTHER ALBUMS....THE DRUMMER STEVE SMITH IS NEW TO ME....HE DID A GREAT JOB IN THIS CONCERT.
Anthony Jackson is one of the best bassists there is. He's played on a lot of Al Di Meola's albums - that's where I first heard his name. Seems to be more of a studio cat but I've seen him doing some live performances too, such as in this video.
Steve’s playing is more than admirable. He is jumping into a difficult gig and he even stated his respect Simon’s wonderful orchestration. Consider he doesn’t have the benefit of comfort after recording the album session or even the chemistry experience built between the trio over years. That said, Steve’s expression sounds a bit “softer” but gives more room for Anthony which I enjoyed and just fun to hear a difference. Steve played some really great solos too. All in all, this is Simon’s gig and certainly most people’s preference as well as my own.
I have to disagree, Steve sounds more jazzy for me, I didn't see many videos with Simon playing though.. actually I didn't know it was Simon's gig! I just entered to Hiromi's universe! oO Thanks for the info!
I enjoy Steve’s amazing handling of the movements but choosing between Steve and Simon is not possible for me. The fact that they both play and contribute massively to the brilliance of Hiromi’s compositions, and are the musical contemporaries of Anthony Jackson says this ensemble is in the stratosphere with either Steve or Simon.
im not going to dignify anyone saying im belittling simon...with a response...but theyr different obviously..Neil Peart when doing a buddy rich tribute had steve in and said his approach was "angular"..i always loved that and think its true..where as my playing is more undulating and linear, partiallhy circular, which is how id describe simons..i agree re" this gig, but i always preferred steves alien spice, not over simon, over alot of ppl...until she joins up and does my dream album with Matt Garstka and Victor Wooten, a 5 song headhunters type album which only she, and he and he could do, they really could...she is the queen though and whatever reasons she has for choosing her musicians, lets just say they are the right reasons...and i'l BET she can play a mean drums too, like not professional, but has innate talent, obviously piano is a percussion instrument and she is very percussive and rhythmic in her playing, so its not a surprise she has good taste in musicians...2 old men and petit Japanese lady I call it
Her first album was entitled "Another Mind" & her second "Brain", so she may be wondering herself the same thing you are. But for her, regardless of how her brain works, the answer is irrelevant, anyway, as the music speaks for itself & has no need for reason or explanation. At the end of the day, we might as well just dig it. It is there to be dug, no more & no less.
*There are talents that are difficult to reach and that of this beautiful woman is a clear example of this. I follow Hiromi from the beginning and I never cease to be admired for his exquisite sharpness in the interpretation of this beautiful instrument. Great Hiromi Uehara. *Existen talentos difíciles de alcanzar y el de esta hermosa mujer es un claro ejemplo de ello. Sigo a Hiromi desde sus comienzos y no termino de quedar admirado de su exquisita agudeza en la interpretación de este bello instrumento. Grande Hiromi Uehara.
Good lord, they are the hardest working trio in jazz. They must rent their instruments the way they beat on them. Hiromi is part mad scientist in her creations, the bass player is flying along making the beat and hanging on for dear life. What a performance from all three.I'm exhausted just watching.
im gonna become Hindu...Need about a hundred lives to listen to everything i wanna listen...even if no one composed more music anymore we have enough music for the next 500 hundred years...lol...
Please do suggest some bands/artists that I'd derive a bottomless pit of enjoyment from. I love the kinds of Hiromi, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the usual prog rock
Parece que como las participaciones de Hiromi Uehara son muy intensas, se le desentona el piano, como se aprecia a la mitad del video. Pero es Excelente esta japonesa y su banda.

Also ! What else ?
I put a like a felt it's not enough for describing how much I agree
All my life (80 years till now) jazzwas my music. Hiromi and her groups placed every jazz in her shadow. I take all her Cds with to heaven.

my life just got a bit better after listening to this musicians...
i'm new to Hiromi - but this is jazz at it's best. Makes it look so easy, and has a boatload of fun while playing. Superb work.
One of the Greatest Concerta I ever seen
19:20 This camera angle made made question everything I knew about bass for a brief moment.
Love this band , Hiromi is from another planet

Love her music, her amazing technique and endless reserve when soloing. 💕🎵🎹🎶💕

excellent comment...yes, Anthony's bass really stands out more here!

she is so magnificent! what a epic composer
Hiromi is a triple threat! She’s gorgeous, smart and she can play! It’s incredible to me how she changes time signatures at will! Awesome musician!
Virtuosos, quintessentially! 👌🏿♥️
Anthony Jackson is my Bass GOAT!
В мире музыки она, безусловно, явление экстра-класса.
И команда у нее отличная, ей под стать.

Sophisticated, joyful jazz ascended!
Luego de la presentación 25.08 siguió la grabación con micrófonos de ambientes ..... maaaaaallllllll
No se arregla después?
Too bad the sound got messed up after the first tune. This was a great performance.
We can say HIROMI finest and Top on Músicians Pantheon
I am trying to imagine
how the brain of hiromi is structured
hiromi plays like a wild beast
She has two brains, one for each hand!
It's impossible to even imagine...
Her first album was entitled "Another Mind" & her second "Brain", so she may be wondering herself the same thing you are. Talento puro.....
thanks for posting this and to the 3 gorgeous human beings playing...
What a trio! Perfect match.

That's a great description of Hiromi. Controlled melodical chaos. The energy is amazing.
FUNky!❤️
that kit is beautiful...
I like that they cut the video at the end just like that, ignoring the rude chants of 'we want more'. Whither #encore etiquette?
Phenomenal 🎹

I like the part where she says "you think you know what jazz is?"
When was that I missed it
The sound gets too much reverberation after about 25 minutes. 😿 Great performance by the musicians, though.
I noticed the same thing happening. I think it somehow started playing the actual audio heard from the speakers on stage.
How is it possible that the camera doesn't show Anthony during his bass solo particularly at 18:00?? WTF???? Seraiously.
this is good af
I wanna Simon Phillips!
Ponjita diosa!!!
Killer Band.
10:20 Wonderful
Sounds like #DreamTheater!
This gig is a little more interesting to Smith than Journey...well, a lot more interesting!
This was delicious

If Hiromi and Senri got together... (imagination collapsed)
@@svenlima You may be right, I admit I am not too familiar with Kanade's style. I should check her videos more often.
