I think this might be one of my favorite incarnations of Lex. Getting to see his lowly origins and rise to power rather than just being introduced to him already at the top was a genius move, and above all else he just captures what Lex Luthor should be. He's got genuine points to make about Superman's power and the lack of checks against it, but it's all a cover for the fact that he's just a xenophobic piece of work who almost seems to WANT Superman to go on a rampage and prove him right.
He may have only worked for Ivo because it was his job and hated the man otherwise, but at the end of the day it was always about him. He didn't care about Ivo's actions, he cared that the fallout affected HIM.
I know reception of this show's rogues gallery has been hit or miss, but they freaking NAILED Lex.

Not to mention that having his rise parallel Superrman's is fine storytelling of comparing and contrasting the main protagonist with an antagonist foil.

I adore Lex as a villain, I’m glad that they are doing him justice in this series! His cynicism makes him fundamentally unable to understand Superman.
That ‘what if he chooses the other side’ argument he makes kinda illustrate that… why would Superman participate in ANY war? He’d try to get a ceasefire first, and THEN figure out why a war is happening and try to help as many people as possible, because war is an inherently evil thing
But Lex can’t comprehend someone having all that power, not being from earth, and being as good as he is. He doesn’t know Superman was raised practically human, or his personality whatsoever.
I bet this version of Lex would ALSO not be able to comprehend Superman being Clark Kent lol

I think the only reason Waller told the others to fall back after the exhibit was destroyed, was so Lex could frame Superman for the damage and use that to secure backing for Task Force X. I doubt that was the plan all along but I think that's why they left so suddently.

  • @VictoryArtz
    @VictoryArtz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

And This Ladies and Gentlemen is why we despise Lex Luthor. He uses people for his own advantage and makes cynical, selfish speeches of why Superman is so dangerous. I swear if Lois punches him in the face again it'll be satisfaction.

The line between justified fear and paranoia is thin one for Sam. Because he's right that Waller is out to get him, and that she will do whatever it takes... but that doesn't mean he can't overreact and jump at shadows where there's not an actual threat.
Also, I find the amount of more conventional ballistics in his safe house interesting given how Waller is trying to find caches of reverse engineered super tech.

This episode was rough for Superman, and it didn't even start off that way. Jimmy was invited to the S.T.A.R labs symposium, and Clark goes with him. Clark is once again unable to communicate with Lois about finding Kara. Lois has to deal with her own issues with her father while trying to protect him from Task Force X. It seems like Lucy Lane doesn't exist in this universe since Lois was alone growing up. To make things worse, Lex and Jimmy have a debate on Superman, which Lex clearly wins. This version of Lex may not be bald, but he clearly acts like Lex when it comes to Lex Luthor's disdain and cynicism towards Superman. Also, apparently, we have confirmation that Superman being an alien is public knowledge. I was surprised that Winslow Schott, aka Toyman, showed up. He was an informant for Sam, who betrayed him to Task Force X. Even when Superman was helping to protect Sam and Lois, Lex found a way to use the situation to his advantage without knowing the entire situation. Lex convinced the people in the symposium to turn against Superman, showing how fickle people are. To make it worse, Lex makes it clear that Jimmy is responsible for inspiring him towards his path, which Superman is aware of, which makes Jimmy leave in shame. Plus, when Superman wants to talk to Lois, he overhears Sam talking about Clark being off, and he doesn't even get a chance to hear Lois defend him before flying off. The final straw was when Lois had to cancel meeting up with Clark because of Sam. Clark really needed to talk to her, but Lois canceling on him, made Clark feel so alone that he activated the beacon, hoping that Kara would come to him and fill the void. Lois also has to deal with Sam leaving at the end of the episode. I understand that he did it to protect Lois, considering what currently happened with Task Force X, but it still has negative repercussions. Clark's decision to activate the beacon may have also had negative repercussions, as it led the kryptonian warrior to Earth. I'm not sure that the kryptonian Warrior is Kara, but it's certainly a possibility. Either way, Kara is coming in the next episode. This episode ended on a bittersweet note for Clark, Lois, and Jimmy, but it was a good episode. I honestly hope that Kara becomes Supergirl and joins with Clark.

In this commercial break saying that My Adventures with Superman will return, in a scene that's most likely from episode 6 of this season, Kara/Supergirl has a blank look in her eyes, there's no shine, no spark, and there's also something glowing on her forehead, like she's *_entranced,_* which is most likely a sign that she is under Brainiac's control 😥😰😱! Hopefully Clark/Superman will have her freed by the end of that episode 🥺😣😔🙏🤞.

I’m not sure about it being Kara right now, that ending seemed like a red herring more than a confirmation (especially since they kept the mask on). My theory atm is that it’s Zor-El since we’ve seen something like that before and having Kara be actively rebelling against her father would be an interesting approach given how this series is handling Clark’s relationship with his Kryptonian heritage.

@@MrMisterman1 I don't think Clark has realised Jimmy screwed him over yet. For all he knows, lex's snap at Jimmy could have been for inciting the debate in the first place. And considering the public knows superman to be jimmy's close friend, Lex could have chalked it up to "Jimmy called Superman to testify, ended up helping me".
But considering Clark assumes as such, I suppose my theory isn't valid anymore.

You know, one of the things that's really starting to bug me about this Season is that there seems to be this sweeping epidemic of selective amnesia going on. I mean, never mind the fact that we've got Jimmy giving motivational speeches to Lex, even though Lex had made it PERFECTLY CLEAR last Season what kind of a person he was. Never mind the fact that Vickie Vale is giving Lois a job offer and Lois suddenly finds herself getting all starry-eyed again and actually CONSIDERING it, even though Vickie made it PERFECTLY CLEAR last Season what kind of "journalism" she practices and that she has no qualms about using people up and throwing them away, so long as it gets her what SHE wants. But now, we've got that whole Superman debate in this episode. Yeah, okay, it was an ambush, but the second he saw Lex, Jimmy HAD TO know perfectly well that he was coming out there with an axe to grind. He could have shut Lex down at any point, but instead, we get Jimmy just standing there like a deer in the headlights because all that information he had just LEFT him for some reason and he couldn't form an argument.
I mean, what the hell, people? Last Season, everyone was growing on some level, and this Season, they're all just falling ass-backwards because they've completely forgotten everything they've learned. Lois has even forgotten a literal lifetime of lessons that she had to learn about her father the hard way...that he is absolutely NEVER going to tell her that he loves her or that he never got over her mother's death, because he's been "The General" for so long that he sees weakness everywhere, so he can't bear to show ANY kind of vulnerability...and that NOTHING she does is EVER going to just magically change that because this is a mindset only HE can break HIMSELF out of.
At least, that's just MY thinking on it.
(Oh, and also, if it wasn't clear before in the Season Premiere, I think we all get NOW that the Kryptonian in the armor is actually Kara, not Zod as many of us originally believed. Because the show is obviously doing this whole "Masters of the Universe" "Hordak/She-Ra" thing, where the big twist reveal is going to be that Braniac intercepted Kara's ship as it was leaving Krypton and that he's basically spent her entire life just gaslighting her. Actually, that suit she's wearing kind of looks a little like Horde Trooper armor, too, now that I think about it. Anyway, I just thought it was something worth mentioning.)
