- 1979 (Veteran Vocal Powerhouse, Shirley Bassey, BELTS out this Classic which was a Hit for her back in 1963. This version is from From her 1979 TV Variety Show)
Shirley first recorded and released the song, I Who Have Nothing' as a Columbia Single in 1963. Of all the singers who have recorded this song over the past 50+ years, Shirley is the only artist who earned a Top 10 hit. When listening to various artists sing this song, please be kind and give this veteran who has been in the business for 60 years her dues...
ABOUT the song:
"I (Who Have Nothing)" is based on the Italian song "Uno dei tanti," (English: "One of Many") with music by Carlo Donida and lyrics by Giulio "Mogol" Rapetti.[1] "Uno dei tanti" was released by Joe Sentieri in 1961. The lyrics for "I (Who Have Nothing)" were translated into English by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Shirley Bassey released the song (produced by George Martin) in September 1963, reaching #6 on the UK charts. She performs the song at almost every live concert she gives, and it is on many of her compilation albums, including I Am What I Am with the London Symphony Orchestra, and her 1989 album La Mujer where she sings it in Spanish ("Hoy No Tengo Nada"). She has also been instrumental in making Donida's music known to English speaking audiences through arranging for translations from the Italian, having performed with the composer conducting his own music on Italian television.
LYRICS:
I, I who have nothing
I, I who have no one
Adore you and want you so
I'm just a no one,
with nothing to give you but oh
I love you
You, you buy her diamonds
Bright, sparkling diamonds
But believe me, dear, when I say
That she can give you the world
(sometimes: That you can give her the world)
But she'll never love you the way
I love you
You can take her any place she wants
To fancy clubs and restaurants
But I can only watch you
with My nose pressed up against the window paneI,
I who have nothing
I, I who have no one
Must watch you, go dancing by
Wrapped in the arms of somebody else
When darling it is I
Who love you
I Love You....
I Love You...
I Love You........ - เพลง
Shirley Bassey is a performer that no one in history has ever came close. She is irreplaceable
Tom Jones by murder
Your comment is a little out of kilter, Amy WineHouse, Adele, Celine, Whitney, Alison Moyet, Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland to name a few
Totally agree with you ❤
To me, this is one of the greatest vocal performances of all time.
Watch her perform 'this is my life' live. You will be amazed
Agreed. I have never heard the equal. 😅
Yes it is!!!!
Think greater - why say: To me ... :D
They just don't make singers like this anymore - mesmerizing, resonating, dramatic and authentic.
That's how entertainment should be, from the ground up ... and who is the ground ... people ... do you start getting it ?
@@MrUsermister sorry? are you directing your opinion at me?
@@reic0002 Am I ???
Agree with you.

I’m 66 and used to hear her regularly. She was The Best female singer ever at that time. Then Streisand came along and then Whitney and my heart wavered. Yet hearing this again tonight makes me think the Crown still belongs to Shirley.
She makes Streisand sound like a schoolgirl.
I'm similar age and grew up with them all All fantastic in their own styles (Karen Carpenter singing Don't Cry for me Argentina comes close too) ...have you heard Amy Winehouse Back to Black...not this magnitude but absolute honesty for a modern artist
Now we have Angelina Jordan, the best singer alive. Shirley makes her look like a school girl but then again Angelina is a school girl.
Bassey forever! Bassey still sounds amazing! Her new album is astounding!
🙏
Look at her face, she is acting out the song with all emotions she can bring out. That´s what makes it so special, todays artists don´t do that.
lasse maja she acting like Callas in opera, great.
Passionate and perfectionist like Callas was, and their voice of course. All that made them EXCEPTIONAL artists.
what artist today ? you mean green screen and studio tuned up sound artist which most play on playback :)
lasse maja Bollocks.

Shirley Bassey is really the PRIDE of the WELSH. Nothing Compare.
SHIRLEY BASSEY A CLASS ACT, AMONG THE GREATEST
Stunning and emotive Dame Shirley Bassey! One of a kind!
God just chills. I love this woman!
The clear and precise diction.of her voice.❤❤
I've heard this song interpreted by many vocalists & NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE comes close to Dame Shirley Bassey's rendition. The hair stands up on my arms every time I listen to her sing this song. Brava, Dame Bassey, Multi Brava.
CHECK OUT CANDICE GLOVER RENDITION 💪🏽
@@rich8228 nope, Tom Jones is a lot better, another from Wales.
Cynthia Eriva did amazing
Very nice song orig
absolutely no one .
It doesn’t get any better than this !!!.
After I die, if there was a chance to return to this cruel world, I’d love to be a Lady Bassey ❤
Yaaas Dame Shirley Bassey, you tell that jerk what he's missing! ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💖 I love her passion, so explosive and expressive ✨️✨️✨️
What a voice.
The ONLY SONG that can bring a grown man to tears, EVERY TIME ❤
All her songs are great!
I listened her once in early 1980s, nonstop almost for a week and until tape broke.
Well wishes to Shirley Bassey.
There has never been female vocalists who put it all out there like Shirley, Streisand and Whitney Houston, but for sheer performance Shirley has it every time. Wondrous.
This is exactly what she was going for in her 40's and 50's. When she first recorded this song back in 1963, she included the longer note phrasing of a young singer who portrays someone who has lost her crush. But, in Shirley's older versions she is portraying someone more bitter about never finding Mr. Right. Shirley is able to sing this song any way she likes, but as she got older she chose this arrangement for this song. This is what makes her unique in comparison to all the rest.
F*****g brilliant! That woman could not only sing but certainly knew how to perform and deliver a song.
floouk - Dame Shirley is now 78 yo, and she still can sing and deliver a song with unprecedented power and performance. I recently posted together both Shirley's 1961 and 2014 Royal Variety Performances in one clip. Bassey is certainly a One-Of-A-Kind Singer/Performer...Check it out..
She still can.
@floouk; - and she sure delivers on this one.
When you read about her life and relationships I think it becomes clear that she was channeling some real experiences during her performances.
@@sas9023055 ...it was like...her timing was so superb...that it was like the vocal and the music...was coming THROUGH HER....and the ECHO....just HIGH THEATRE....
she is crazy !!!! she is from another galaxy !!!! she can feel everythingggg!!!! she can give all her heart and soul into music!!!!!
Welcome to what's commonly called "artistry" !!!
Yes, Diamond voice.
The Classic Diva!
I'm watching this in 2019, but it doesn't matter, good music is timeless.
2020 same
2020 ditto
2021
Nice sonh
👍👍👍
There’s no one like her.. she acts her songs with such emotion, you can’t help but FEEL every word of her songs.. amazing, purely amazing!
Those years LADIES sang fully clothed- n thr music still lives on
yes they did
They don't write songs this good any longer either
What a woman what a voice. She takes on this killer of a song and nails it.
It's nice when someone acknowledges and is complimentary to both the older and newer generation artists. This song is a classic, and every so often someone new gives it a go....
Oh Lord,what a talent.
Her style reminds me so much of Whitney. So strong, powerfully loud yet heartfelt, soulful and emotional. Such a legend. She never holds a note too long. She stops abruptly. But when she sings, it's as if she's talking to me telling me a story. I love her. Those born in her time are lucky. I'm glad my Pa showed her to me. 🫶💯
Not to mention that at 76 yo, Bassey still has golden vocal pipes and she still receives standing ovations wherever she appears. Not all these people who attended the Oscars are specifically Shirley Bassey fans, but they all know an outstanding vocalist when they hear AND watch one.
There will never be another Shirley, what a fantastic singer, she's still got it.
One of a kind music icon. I love her ❤❤❤❤
The Orchestra beautiful
Quite spectacular. To watch Shirley Bassey perform challenging songs is quite an experience. I loved the way she hits top notes and pulls the listener in with her.
OMG SECOND TO NONE THIS WOMAN IS INCREDIBLE
Shirley bassey sang this song the best

The girl from tiger bay, the very best of the best, such a powerful wonderful voice.
For me Shirley is the female Freddy Mercury, a once in a lifetime, never to be repeated person, talent and experience..
Shirley eclipses him comfortably
@@Effigyy I would have to agree, her voice and presence are amazing, so how would you rate her against Nana Mouskouri?
@@caineshaw9317 I don't feel like I'm qualified to speculate on that :D
Female Tom Jones maybe?
@@kaithgreysanatomy No, No she is a head, shoulders and body above and over a pub singer..

That was perfect, what a voice.
2023 & this is still 🔥🔥🔥
Words can't describe it. Some things can't be verbally defined. They can only be experienced.
Shirley not only sings the song, She lives it, every emotion is there, What a fantastic singer, There is nothing more to say except this, Shirley Bassey, Living Legend
+David Moyes So true David.
A pure Gold given talant, what a voice.
She's has the beutiful voice I never heard.
Hey, let's face it there will never be another like her.
Damn she delivered it so well. It's like a movie in that song. Every word is well spoken 😍
WOW!!!!! she sang the hell out of this
Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice!!
Extremely beautiful song,....
when you want to hear someone belt it out, it HAS to be Shirley Bassey
What makes this even more incredible is that it's a live recording and not a dubbed lip sync like many so called live performances today.
Her over-the-top dramatic expressions and passionate performances are why I love her so much haha. 😂 Epic singer and absolute diva! Forever thankful Shirley 'the Dame' Bassey exists. 🥰
Watching in 2020. How about you?
Wow. She is an amazing singer. She can really sing, doesn't need the help of technology like most of today's singers. Fantastic!
stt0231 You are oh so right! Shirley is from an era where being a recording artist was not just glamorous; it is/was hard work. To this day, Bassey completes grueling vocal exercises every day, which she considers just part of being the best that she can be. Singers of today have sophisticated technology that allows a artist with a very weak voice to sell millions of records, and performing any such vocal exercises are out of the question. But most of the younger generation who accidently find one of Shirley's clips, and who are unbiased will come to the conclusion that, at least in the case of Shirley Bassey, it has paid off for her.
+Shirley Bassey Music and Vids .Very true.
stt0231 or shake her as in a g string like a dog that got worms
@@sas9023055 you are so right singers today get away with so much they get away with not singing actually they got away was just being on stage and gyrating and looking good with minimal voices there are a few thinkers today that actually have good voices
@@sas9023055 I saw a TH-cam clip of Dame Bassey from a recent Graham Norton show. She sang a song from her newly released album. I was stunned...she is presently 84 yrs old & unbelievably her voice is stronger now than it was in her prime. What really amazes me is that booming voice comes from the body of a 5'3" tall person- truly a gift from above.
OMG when she stabs herself in the hart (with her hand at min 1:48) I mean....wow.....this is a performer...Queen!!!
Kenny Dominguez p
Kenny Dominguez I love u too
So true. So moving.
Charismatic.
Yes :p
modern day music, just doesnt come close ,theres just no heart and soul anymore unfortunately, but there is when this woman steps up to the mike.
Even now when she sings I find her undiminished by age and time
Shirley was superb in this ! She deserves much credit for her performance, and in her very fantastic voice. Lovely !
The emotions! I'm worn out! I love it!
wenig Stimme viel Emotion good Entertainment
This is not singing. This is singing, acting and feeling every second of the song. No one and I mean No one can sing this song but Shirley.

The way she just walks away from the mic... 😍😍😍
No one can sing a better version than her.
The incomparable one and only unique Dame Shirley!! Superb rendition in perfection!❤❤❤
God!!!!....words escapes me ..a Masterpiece!!!!
Imagine someone singing like this nowadays, they would shoot to the top of the top 20 instantly.
+Hampsonful How do you mean like this? Sounding like the Dame or singing something with emotion? If the former won't happen as she is unique.
If the latter then you are not listening to the radio at the right time. As there are artists/groups who sing with emotion.
She is dreamy. Even now, she is a grand and great woman. I do have to admit though, she must have wrote the book on drama, cause damn, every single move and even blink of her eye is filled with drama.
Shirley Bassey was singing live when no one else was and bloody hell can she sing!
One of the best voices of all time....
Still outstanding, Shirls. x ......
Amazing singer
you see when the song is popular because of the quality not of controversy.. real talent and music never dies
I can feel every word, i live the song, almost tears come up. my god that's what i call music.
A precious stone of beauty and talent!!! ;-)
So many people sing this song nobody sings it like her though
The woman has a voice that could repel armies and makes it look about as difficult as stirring tea. Truly one of the things that makes me proud to be Welsh is talent like this :)
Hahahaha "and makes it look as difficult as stirring tea".. brilliant
one of the best Brits
She doesn't make it look easy at all
You see her putting everything she has into it.
And we appreciate the effort.
It's called performing.
The best description was that Dame Shirley Bassey has voice like a power station.
Her an Tom Jones, both have pipes
I just want to watch this over and over. ..that was freaking ridiculous. ..I felt that to the core
