  • It’s rare for two Formula One siblings to be in the same room at the same time. But recently, our Technical Director James Allison gave us the chance to check out the W08 and the W09 side by side to see just how they compare...

      Wholeheartedly agree. He and Ross brawn are probably my two favorite engineers to listen to. Dream date would be those two and Lewis.

    Mercedes: What is different from the 2017 car to the 2018 car
    Me:
    1- Halo in
    2- Shark Fin out
    3- T wing out
    4- The middle of the rear wing is silver

      Just the visiible changes, there would have been thousands of changes made to small intrecate aero and also on the inside where we can't see or where they won't admit.

    Mr Allison doesn't reveal any secret here. All the teams have improved their cars over the break. The secrets are in the suspension gears, the new PU, the software, and everything that isn't covered by the bodywork. Of course, we love to have Mr Allison tell us about them too. ;)

  • @blu0065
    @blu0065 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the split (bladed?) front wing (and constantly panning over it and not talking about it to add mystery to it) a distraction to the intake cowling area?
    The video shows significant detail on the 2017 cowling area but not so much on the 2018.
    There's talk about the slenderness of the body on the 2018 rendition, but we can't discount the amount of drag that radiators and the associated ducting generate... I think more attention could be paid to the radiator area rather than the back end

    • @carador9286
      @carador9286 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I disagree on Halo. Danger HAS to be part of the F1. It's part of F1s DNA. If there is no more danger, no risk at all, people will stop watching and Formula 1 itself will die. The introduction of Halo is like telling a sky diver he has to stay on the ground because otherwise the risk would be too high.

    • @dennisfrank5794
      @dennisfrank5794 6 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      @Carador That is an absolutely absurd statement; if you look historically at F1 you see extremely high rates of increased safety from the 1970s into the 21st century and at the same time you see increased sponsorship, increased viewership, and increased regional influence. F1 will always have perceived danger, the inevitability of a crash is what drives certain viewers, but I doubt many viewers are looking for, or will miss, the deaths which occurred during the pre-Hunt/Lauda era. The only reason F1 viewership will decrease is if they cannot produce a competitive event, having a single team dominate without even a single competitor becomes boring, i.e. reduced viewership.

    • @carador9286
      @carador9286 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're totally wrong, with almost everything you said. But I don't see the need to explain my opinion to somebody I don't know and I don't care about. So have a nice time watching this boring circus F1 has become.

    • @nigeljames6017
      @nigeljames6017 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Carador Your dismissive tone in your reply to Dennis Frank shows a certain level of culture. I certainly don’t care if you dismiss me with the same level of contempt, but I do wish people would grow up and discuss topics sensibly.
      For what it is worth, I’d like to make observation on the halo. I am for more safety in F1, and I think if you asked Niki Lauda he may well agree with that viewpoint.

    You guys are my team!! I love Mercedes F1 & Lewis has been my favorite since I’ve been watching the sport. But I noticed something that looked a little strange about the front end of the new car. Two very prominent features that worry me for the season to come. I don’t want to point it out specifically on such a public format like TH-cam threads. But I also don’t want Mercedes to get penalized later in the year, possibly being negative to championship hopes. But anyway, beautiful car & cannot wait to see her racing!!
