The fact we never see the Thals again after Genesis saddens me. I would think they would have had some kind of importance in the revival or perhaps even during the time war.
Agreed, this suggests that the Daleks wiped out the Thals. So it looks like the Kaleds were the victors of the neutronic war. But I have a feeling we’ll see them again soon.
Having seen the classic " Genesis of the Daleks " back in 1975, ( and more recently on the VHS ).... I was always unsure which soldiers we saw, at the very beginning of episode 1, wearing red gas masks, and looking scarily like first world war soldiers, climbing out of a trench, to be mown down by machine gun fire... I understand that they were the THAL troops..... What an incredible start to a Dr Who story, and, believe me, a lot of young viewers ( and their parents ) were quite shocked at that scene... At first, we thought we were watching the classic " All quiet on the Western Front "... Then along came Tom Baker !!!
Wait wait wait, you're telling me this Davros guy who invented the daleks gave his enemy, the Thals the ability to destroy the dome cities of the Kaleds, only to turn around and order the daleks to exterminate them for doing exactly that? If that's the case then I can't quite tell whether he's a mad scientist or just palpatine levels of petty and manipulative.
@@Dray1 Yes, agreed... Genesis is a brilliant story, many fans, including me, think it is the best EVER story of Dr Who... I still think that, many people who watch that 6 part story, don't always follow the words, spoken by all the actors... Because, if people DID listen carefully, it would become very obvious WHY the thousand year war occurred, and exactly WHY Davros had to design the Mk III travel vehicle, and most importantly, WHY Davros needed to discover the final mutated form of the Kaled degeneration.... Quite simply, ( for the 1970's, and the BBC budget limitations ) I think it was a fantastic effort by all concerned... I often wish they could do a similar story about exactly HOW the Cybermen started out...

The Thals were probably all wiped out when the Daleks took full control of the planet

Comprehensive history, and a good addition to your series.
That's really interesting to find out, I thought that they went extinct by the end of the war against the Kaleds!

thanks for sharing
Never realised how much the 3rd Doctor resembled Casanova Frankenstein.
Thals. A distinctly Scots/Irish/Welsh tendency in choosing the neighbours.
Make the background music a little louder so it completely masks what you mumble.
Glad you enjoyed it
The that’s need to return to the show
Would be nice to see them again, it has been 50 Years.
