One of the things I like is the "un-realism" of The Sims. A little green kid with pointy ears goes off to school and can bring home any kid in the neighborhood, even little kids with lots of hair and pointy teeth! A plumbot takes the baby for a stroll. Witches fly around on brooms (little ones even with training wheels). It's fun because it's not taking itself seriously. And as for utopia? I think "normal" Oasis Landing is much cooler than utopia!
This is what I love about the sims. I hope it continues to keep the silliness in future. I don't mind the lack of ultra realism (infact I find going too realistic rather dull) as honestly having weird and unusual things is what makes the game so interesting 😊
I once had a sim get really sad after she paid her bills, and I've never related as much to a sim as I did in that moment... That was a very real moment... That being said, I do like the mix of reality in the game. I'd get bored if it was utopian, because everything would be perfect and there wouldn't be a challenge. If you've never had to sell a window to afford food, have you even played The Sims? I'd even go as far as to say The Sims 4 is too far removed from realism. No burglars, no real threat to getting sick, no mental breakdowns, just a few examples. That being said, it's not fun for it to be the exact opposite either. The Sims 1 was really hard, and while I enjoy the game, sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out because my sims are forever hungry and crying in puddles of blue urine, because they're smelly and nobody wants to talk to them. I enjoy some of the unrealistic parts as well. Having a spellcaster and a vampire woohoo in a rocket ship is part of what makes The Sims unique. I think a good mix of realism and crazy is important to make the game challenging, but fun at the same time.
I'm late but there's a mod that has burglars, illnesses and accidents (and serial killers)! can't remember the name but it's really cool and you can decide the speed of when the accidents and stuff happen.
Cap'n Crimson I wouldn’t want Sims 4 to be as hard as Sims 1 but I do love when my Sims struggle. I wish bills were way more and the tuition was more. I wish relationships had more meaning like in Sims 2 and I miss having sims go into aspiration failure. I like when there more drama and struggle in my game, Sims 4 is just too easy sometimes.
The implementation of University tuition and loans doesn't make it more realistic - it just makes it feel more like America. Where I come from, students loans aren't a thing, so seeing it in a game just feels super alien to me (headcanon - aliens are responsible for students loans, lmao).
Also the no overns in a dorm like where I'm form you have to have a fully equipped kitchen in the dorm so it encourages everyone to eat properly and not just microwaved food since that's bad for your health, (had an art teacher that did only eat microwaved chips every day while at uni and now she dosent have a fully functioning digestive system so helps prove the point)
I have a friend in the Netherlands who told me that tuition is not free there unless you are accepted into one of the best schools. So I would say that the low tuition and fees are either California or Europe.
I think that They should also do that with the holidays like not everybody celebrates Christmas or they celebrate something different but if you want that then everybody has too

I'll be honest, real life bores me. When I play sims, I like to create chaos, I like supernatural beings and I love the Grim Reaper. I think that if it exists that much of mods to create more drama, like the violence mod and all, it's because a lot of players want to have surprises and bad things happened to their sims. I don't want an utopia. I want CHAOS.
Me too, most people want realism for the sims but I play the game escape reality, not dive into another version of it. And if that means sending my lesbian vampire off to fight a giant alien plant with the help of a chaotic witch and an actual humanoid alien, So Be It!!
Same. I don’t understand the simmers that hates supernatural stuff in the game and prefers “realistic gameplay”. Why I would play a game without stuff that we can’t do in real life? That’s why I play the sims, to do things I can’t or wouldn’t do in real life, not to do stuff I can do in real life. For my game, I like a combination of realism gameplay and fantastic/impossible gameplay. I like mods in the game that lets you have period, make sims kill sims, have hospitals, etc. And I like to have fairies, witches, plantsims, imaginary friends, etc. In my game. I like the chaos, a bit of realistic and irrealistic gameplay, I like to play with families of extremely powerful witches and I like playing with an average family who is involved in some drama. LOL
Fun fact : Talking about alphabet letters in sims series, In the sims 2, while children are playing chess they will sit on books to play, the side cover of one of the books will say stuff in simlish writing but it also says 'asdf fsads dfsaf asfasfd' in alphabet letters on the top of the simlish writing or something like that lol, And also, in the sims 3, in sunset valley, there is a school and inside the school on the second floor there is a map of America
I love this topic about the sims lore, and I really liked this video, but I need to say a couple of things: Hidden Springs is suppose to be separate from Sim Nation because has, how you sayed in the video, a royal and ruling household. That means Hidden Springs is a separate kingdom from SimNation (I like to think of it like a sort of sim equivalent of San Marino). Something similar happen to San Mayshuno: the Career of politics introduced in City Living refers to a single parliament, but we know from the past games that SimNation has a parliament and a congress like the USA. That means that San Mayshuno is another republic separate from Sim Nation. And that is partially confirmed by the same devs, that sayed that the city is inspired by city states like Singapore and Hong Kong. Obviously what I sayed here is not 100% facts because actually we didn't know much about how actually is managed SimNation if not some description. My opinion about the question if Sim Nation is an utopia: I think not, from the real word is better in many ways, but in other is actually worse (criminality seem to be really rampant if the criminal careers has ads on news paper and web 😂). I think like every society Sim Nation has his ups and down.
Ey, would mind to explain what is a Plumbob? aka"The green Diamond" I think it should be interesting, specially looking from the sims 2 psp perspective because in this video you talked about the freewill and that's something so interesting, I think some people made a really bad movie about the Sims where the main topic was freewill.
The various kingdoms in the Sims Medieval start out separate. You have to select them from the territory map to ally them, then complete a quest to annex them.
I guess when we brought up "Utopia" in the sexuality video. we (or atleast I) used the word in the sense that it is a form of escapism for LGBT players to create sims who can be with who they want to be without the homophobic hate speech. In actuality, the Sim nation is a utopia for some and not for others. Some (like LGBT, people of color, etc) can experience an egalitarian perfection that they can't have in the real world. However, of course, there are sims that are poor sims that can loose their whole family in a fire or get their prized belongings stolen from them only getting back a few thousand, social services permanently separating families with no 2nd chance, no unemployment benefits. Some things are designed into the game to spice things up and add an incentive to try and make your sims work for what they have.
Thanks for this! Couldn't agree more. The comments actually made me think about The Sims in general and their world which made me want to talk a bit about how it's not fully a Utopia. I think they threw in just the right amount of spice to make gameplay safe for everyone but at the same time keep it interesting.
I suppose what I meant in my previous video is that sometimes the gameplay falls flat for me in terms of realism, but I didn't think about which parts deserve to be realistic and the others that wouldn't make sense!

The mod community can add whatever they want into the game if they want either that extra spice of realism or to make the game more fantasy like if they please. I did have an idea for a sims 3 mod where once you get leader of the free world. You actually get to make decisions that effect the neighborhood in it's entirety. Such as having to balance a city budget alongside reputation and there would be a whole system with policies and taxation and whatnot you could deal with. Though, if I wanted to really role play as a mayor, I could just launch up Sim city.

There are not elections in the Sims. The leader of the free world will stay forever. Even he/she can die and develop his/her political career as a ghost. He/she will eventually be kicked out if he/she is caught stealing 50 simoleons from campaign funds. Sims logic or he/she is not the best friend of his/her workmate, the podium polisher, which is a very selective job every Sim has access to. Sims logic.
Sims is actually the sequel to Spore. Sims evolved from single cells stuff and eventually turned into multicellular beings that we see today. And the advanced aliens that kidnap your sims are actually the aliens from your Spore game. 🤯💥🧠💥🤯
From a european point of view (more specifically french) many details in the Sims 2 that make the game more realistic to Americans are actually what makes Simnation feel unfamiliar to me. For example, the mailboxes, the schoolbus, the food, the way college works, the way houses are built, and many details like the design of objects or cultural references... I dont think the Sims is utopian. At best it is a sugarcoated representation of the US with a touch of parody. I'm glad Sims are colorblind, non homophobic, and that sexual violence does not exist though. We get enough of that irl, i dont play to see my sims suffer. I mostly build and rarely play live mode anyway...

At least in the sims 4, the 'imperfections' doesn't seem to cause any inconvenience along the line, there are no repercussions for being 'bad' and other sims aren't really affected by your actions to them, so i think it is kind of a utopia in a way. As in, it doesn't matter how 'bad' you are, the world would still be good, if you get what i mean.

Usually when I play sims 3 (since idk why I don’t like sims 4 all that much). I sort of make up lore within it, sometimes it makes sense like the bills are actually rent in the game for the house you live in and etc. Which honestly would be interesting if it was rent.
The geography of sim nation always interested me. Since I’ve been playing, I’ve been trying to piece it all together. Since the sims4 takes place in an alternate universe, some locations are slightly different in terms of the man made stuff (town names and landmarks). I only have 3 and 4 (i wanna play 2 and medieval so badly) but I strongly believe Strange Town and Strangerville are close together or at least alternate versions of the same place. Without further ado, here’s what I’ve theorized based on my own gameplay: We don’t see vampires in every town when you start the game, which leads me to believe they are a minority and stick to themselves a lot. Especially since they’d avoid many sunny towns, but we do know Bridgeport and Moonlight falls have vampire history. They are both costal cites and it’s possible that vampires from Moonlight Falls have immigrated to Bridgeport very easily if they were close. It’s highly possible there’s multiple mountain ranges, but I think the desert towns are closer to the towns by mountains. Lucky Palms would have to be close to places like Moonlight Falls, and the soon to be Oasis Landing. We also know Oasis Landing is a either a coastal location or a by a Great Lake. And I’m pretty sure Sunlight Tides is down south but I’m not sure??? 🤔
In my case i wouldn't like it if the sims had realistic crimes and stuff like that. The saga has always been a escape from reality, and for some people might not look like an utopia but it totally is in my opinion. I really enjoyed this video!!!
Tamara Scarpelli in the sims 4 there a major crimes you can commit like you become a criminal ring leader and also mob boss and the sim properly committing highly illegal things like murder and high larceny.
I think there is not an exact map of SimNation because we players (as God) have our own vision of how everything will look. Also, I like to think that the SimNation is in other planet, not on Earth. I once read a theory that stated that Sims are some kind on alien species (aside of the aliens in the game) because of their biological nature and how they can mix with aliens, vampiers, etc.

I feel like simnation is to american and I get that cause it's an American made game but they keep claiming to be trying to represent everywhere but then add things that dont really need to be a thing which made it more american, such as no overns in uni dorms like in england at least all dorms have a fully equipped kitchen, and having to pay for healthcare another american thing and even looking past the small things all the worlds as shown can just fit into one country based off america and not be based in other countries such as European , asian or African countries it just takes away from the feeling that the sims can take place anywhere if it's all tailored to fit into one "perfect" american esque nation and not be another version of earth where places are different this could also work with the political system in different worlds like have the american ones have an american governmental system and then have another that has a monarchy and another could have a mix of both it just would add the variety that the worlds lack and represent more cultures and people
(Warning Wall of Text) Thing is in the sims 2 there is a career chance card mentioning an opposing power to simcity called "Red City" which is likely a reference to the cold war and US/USSR tensions so if we go by the timeline in the sims 3 Simerica or Sim Nation is either in the (the world of the universe at least) Is in grips of a cold war considering The sims 3 takes place 50 years before the events of the sims took place assuming the Sims takes place exactly when it was released (and we can obviously see in the game SimCity 4 that Simerica or Sim Nation has a nuclear program and missile testing program) so quite clearly the sims series (excluding the vacation expansions) takes place in a very much satirised version of america (which accurately represents how in sunset valley we see so many ethnic groups in the names (for example Vita Alto could be Italian or Portuguese whereas Nick (Or Nicholas) Alto is quite clearly Greek in name derivatives (I mean for crying out loud in appaloosa Planes there is a Native American Family) in addition to say names like Kimora Ansari or Wan (quite clearly Asian sounding) as well as semi traditional names I could see names like Goddard Wolff & Crumplebottom showing up somewhere in history (and it has quite clearly been indicated that some families share relation across neighborhood borders for example the Goths and Wolff's in Moonlight Falls or the Altos in Bridgeport and isla Paridiso it seems as if they quite clearly knew their inspiration somewhat (especially since Sunset valley Riverview Twinbrook moonlight falls Bridgeport and starlight shores All feature american construction styles (be it from the Victorian era to some form of brutalist design architecturally speaking) not to mention references to Car Culture in america (For example fixing up a wrecked car or painting it in a unique design especially since the Coca Cola deal had a 1940s (or late 30s) station wagon with woody styling and chrome bumpers and trim definitely american influence there and then there's the motorcycles in the sims 3 quite clearly based on Harley Davidson motorcycles mostly common in america
I play in Veronaville. In my mind it is alternative world, with technologies of 2000`s, but where a few previous centuries of history came in different way. I explain it with their different lifespan, and existing of aliens (wich don`t help, but just demotivate from being too ambitious), which can`t live in these atmosphere anyway

I think up until the Sims 3, the developers really tried creating a new world. However in the sims 4, I feel like they assimilated the sims more to american culture because it's easier and they don't have to create lore.
About Sim Nation, there's an interesting thing I notice. Eventually, Sim Nation has much relaxed traffic law - to the point helicopters are allowed to land at a citizen driveway legally to pick them up for work. And the sims appear to have really good driving training because I don't remember my sims ever got in any accident driving in their cars... That's just something that jolted my mind.
@@Sam-on5jf yeah I think you're right. When it first came out, I was thinking, "why isn't it more money!?" Then I realized, "other countries have it better than us" and do think this was a happy medium. I just subtract more money from their account using cheats to make it more realistic.
Other then the fact that sometimes the citizens may get trapped into Jigsaw type scenarios if the they happen to be being controlled by a statistic player, it seems kinda nice.
I play Sims 2 w/all expansion packs. I also use Microsoft Excel, came up with a Mortgage/loan system where I will use cheat code to add money to a Sims account balance. I'll then uses cheat code to make loan payments.
I would absolutely play a hyperrealistic version of the sims, and even have mods on my game for things like banking, illness, crime etc. Some are really dark, but I love a more hyperrealistic game.
It's very weird paying for university at all for me. I'm from Czechia and we pay only for dorms so I was very confused as a kid paying for my sims university studies. Btw I love your videos 😍
I always assumed SimNation was a city state - like Monaco 🇲🇨, Singapore 🇸🇬 or Vatican City 🇻🇦. Even with Pleasantview explicitly being a suburb of Sim City, all the other neighbourhoods revolve around Sim City. Way more than if Sim City was a capital city. It’s like there is nothing else outside of Sim City. I’m excluding vacation destinations from this, as you always picked up different cultures from those destinations so they are canonically other nations to me
The criminal career should involve an option to follow your sim to work or work from home (the night shift). That way you could break into people's homes and steal stuff. I would love it if they extended the criminal career. Or even the law enforcement career. It would be awesome if you could arrest people in the street if you spot a wanted criminal or give tickets for fighting, and increase work performance.
If The Sims was hyper-realistic and was like the real world, I would still play it because for a long time, ever since I was 10 I always created the perfect Sims, I created two Sims and gave them the perfect life. No drama, no divorces, arguments, rivalries, enemies, etc. And when I got older, I became bored. Then 5 years ago I saw Pleasantsims channel and seeing the way she plays The Sims and does a want/wishes-based gameplay opened my eyes. I was inspired by her gameplay, so I play the games like she does. From now on, I fulfilled their wants/wishes and let them choose their friends, families, and who they want to be with. Even if it's something bad that ruins their relationships, careers, etc. For example I was playing The Sims a few days ago and I was playing The Goth Household, Don wanted to flirt with Nina in front of Cassandra so I was like okay. And when he did it, Cassandra was furious and heartbroken and divorced Don. So I fulfill my Sims wants and desires, however their choices have consequences. I thank Pleasant Sims for inspiring me to do this. It's like doing something I didn't know I liked. I want my Sims to be more alive and have struggles in their lives not by making forces struggles on my own, but by playing my Sims and treating them like humans fulfilling what they want in their lives, and letting them understand that their choices have consequences. Because if I make them happy all the time and give them the perfect life with no drama, violence, making enemies, divorces, break-ups, etc they are like robots not having free will, and that gets boring. So that is my summary of why I love hyper-realistic gameplay and everything else.

I think if Sims had more realistic crimes, it would probably be 16 or 18+ instead of 12 and up depending on what crimes would be added. Crimes like: - Murder - Abduction (not by aliens) - Sexual abuse - Drug abuse - Domestic abuse And so much more, who knows. As for how many people would still buy and play the game even with those kind of things implemented, i'm not sure. I personally would feel a little worried, unsure of how much would be shown. Especially crimes that involve sexual and/or domestic abuse, i feel many people would complain and others may even be triggered. In the end, i personally don't think that the sims franchise would be as popular today if they had more serious crimes implemented. I do think the crimes that should be in the sims 4 are robberies and maybe more job events. You know how every now and then, while a sim is working they are given a small box with something like "Bob can either complain to his boss or he can ignore it, what should he do?" and you're given two choices. I think what would be cool is if events like earth quakes, bank robberies, shoplifting, school intruders, etc were added in. You'd be given life or death choices that, if the wrong choice is chosen, your sim could have a possibility of death. I think it could also end up teaching the younger players on how they should handle what situations they're in.
I love the sims for the surreal things you can do in the game. So "realistic" (just american, i dont have to pay for university for example) things just dont fit in to my gameplay
I don't think the game should be ulta realistic as it wouldn't feel like a sims game but I do think they should bring back some stuff from previous games. Unlike in previous games, unless you download mods your sim can't go to private school or invite the headmaster over to try and get into private school. I think homework should be more than just a function to progress in school. I believe they should help develop skills, and on top of that I believe there should be more skills learned in lessons. I also think there should be more pop ups for both children and teens like say 'Emma is new to the school and Emily thinks she's really cool. Emily wants to ask Emma to be her friend but she's afraid she's not cool enough. Should she take the risk?' and if. You click yes and all going well then your sim has made a new friend rather than the' make friends' option that brings down performance. That just isn't realistic because you can make friends in breaks and lunches which wouldn't bring down your learning at all as its not in lesson. Or like something similar being this 'Emma got partnered with Emily today and now she wants to be friends. Does Emily want to be friends with Emma?' Or for teen relationships it could be 'Tom is seriously Cute!!! Emily wants to ask him out! Should she?' And if she says yes and tells her friend they're dating they could get a little notification saying something like 'Emily just told Emma she is dating Tom and she doesn't think Emma is happy about it. Does she like him too or is she jealous?' something like that I also want more aspiration traits aimed at just teenagers how toddlers have aspirations just for them and children are the same but teens don't and I don't think that's realistic. I think teen sims should have aspirations suitable for their age like 'become popular at school' or 'arsy geek' or 'teen heartbreaker' or something. Like an aspiration that unlocks a character trait that is only available while you're a teen. Say you have a sim who you want to be a little emo, well to achieve that trait you must have an aspirations thats like 'listen to rock on the radio' and 'dye your hair a new colour' and stuff like that and at the end you gain the emo trait. I also think it would be cooler if there was more life stages like preteen stages. I feel like going from a 9-10 year old child straight to say 18 as a teenager is a bit too much of a skip as baby, toddler, child, young adult, adult and elder are so close together. I think it would be fun if not necessarily it mentions it but where we see our sims going through awkward puberty years. I mean the game is aimed at 12 year old but they don't have to outwardly say it necessarily. It could be something like little moodlets. Like 'Tom's voice is doing weird things where it suddenly goes really high and then really low. Is he sick? Do people notice?!' and he gets the embarrassed emotion. Or something like 'Emily has learned something totally gross at school today. Why was everyone laughing? It's disgusting. She has to do WHAT?! From WHERE?!' It's a cheeky little nod to those who know. A little like a dirty joke hidden for the older people in a Disney film. And if preteens do get introduced I want preteen crushes. Not like full relationships but little things cute first relationships people used to do like 'Emma has a crush on Emily. Should she leave a little note for her to ask her to be her girlfriend?' and then maybe something like 'Emily held Emma's hand today. It was magical!" Or cutsie things like kisses and cheeks and stuff. It would be cool to introduce the concept of playable characters to go to jail. Maybe if you have the kleptomaniac trait and you stole something someone could call the police and then your aim would go into a rabbit hole or something for 3 sims days and then be released or something. Or if you're in the criminal career you could get caught by the police like "Oh no! Nate was sure he'd thought out the perfect plan but the heist for the plumbob necklace went terribly! Officer Sim has come to take. Him. Away. Maybe he should spend this time to rethink his ways... Or plot his revenge." Maybe a preschool could be introduced too, for the toddler sims to go rather than hiring nanny. I know you can send them to daycare when no one is on the lot but they don't gain skills or meet other toddlers. You can't click and them and control them a little while they're there. It would be so much better if your sim had to drop their kid off at daycare and pick them up and they met other toddlers and made friends and learned skills. I don't know something like that. There's so much that I. Think. The game. Is. Lacking. But. I don't want. To. Repeat what other. People have already said so. I thought I'd write my own unique thoughts. For someone who. Has pretty much bought every pack other than journey to. Batuu I do think sometimes the sims. Is a waste of. Money. Even when my game. Is. Free of. Mods, completely vanilla the loading screens alone are long. And seem to. Get longer each update. The graphics are beautiful, far better than the other sims games like CAS and BB but actual game play is lacking. I miss the times when you could cuddle on the couch and snuggle together on the bed like a real romantic pair. I miss the feel of love the sims used to have.
The Sims 4 is basically 1 city, and each place is a different neighborhood since sims can go back and forth through them freely. For example, going by the map, your sims couldn't live in Oasis Springs and then hop over to San Myshuno to hit the clubs; but of course, in the game, they easily can.
I have Only But one question why are some supernaturals only in one game or not in other games like mermaids so are they just outright banned in the Cities and Towns Of Sims 1 and 2, Walhat about werewolves and fairy's are they banned In Sims 4 cities....
Really interesting video! I really enjoyed it :) To be honest I like that in the Sims games you have quirky and realistic aspects. I think you have to look at the games itself to determine if it is an Utopia or not. For example, the Sims 4 is by default an Utopia in my opinion. Sims 4 doesn't have that much family lore like the other games. No one has enemys ans because of the emotion System, the sims will almost always be happy if the room is decorated. But if you play with mods or actively shape the Gameplay into something "evil" then it is obviously not an Utopia anymore. I always thought will wright intented to not have the Sims or SimCity based off of a specific country. I believe there was an interview with him where he stated he used US style looks for it to be more easily recognised globally. But he added SimCity/Simnation is any place you want it to be.

One of the things I like is the "un-realism" of The Sims. A little green kid with pointy ears goes off to school and can bring home any kid in the neighborhood, even little kids with lots of hair and pointy teeth! A plumbot takes the baby for a stroll. Witches fly around on brooms (little ones even with training wheels). It's fun because it's not taking itself seriously. And as for utopia? I think "normal" Oasis Landing is much cooler than utopia!
This is what I love about the sims. I hope it continues to keep the silliness in future. I don't mind the lack of ultra realism (infact I find going too realistic rather dull) as honestly having weird and unusual things is what makes the game so interesting 😊
We are the Gods of our sims but they still have free will . I swear I'll tell my sim to clean up and they just go play the sims on the computer -.-

I once had a sim get really sad after she paid her bills, and I've never related as much to a sim as I did in that moment... That was a very real moment...
That being said, I do like the mix of reality in the game. I'd get bored if it was utopian, because everything would be perfect and there wouldn't be a challenge. If you've never had to sell a window to afford food, have you even played The Sims? I'd even go as far as to say The Sims 4 is too far removed from realism. No burglars, no real threat to getting sick, no mental breakdowns, just a few examples. That being said, it's not fun for it to be the exact opposite either. The Sims 1 was really hard, and while I enjoy the game, sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out because my sims are forever hungry and crying in puddles of blue urine, because they're smelly and nobody wants to talk to them.
I enjoy some of the unrealistic parts as well. Having a spellcaster and a vampire woohoo in a rocket ship is part of what makes The Sims unique. I think a good mix of realism and crazy is important to make the game challenging, but fun at the same time.
I'm late but there's a mod that has burglars, illnesses and accidents (and serial killers)! can't remember the name but it's really cool and you can decide the speed of when the accidents and stuff happen.
Cap'n Crimson I wouldn’t want Sims 4 to be as hard as Sims 1 but I do love when my Sims struggle. I wish bills were way more and the tuition was more. I wish relationships had more meaning like in Sims 2 and I miss having sims go into aspiration failure. I like when there more drama and struggle in my game, Sims 4 is just too easy sometimes.
The implementation of University tuition and loans doesn't make it more realistic - it just makes it feel more like America. Where I come from, students loans aren't a thing, so seeing it in a game just feels super alien to me (headcanon - aliens are responsible for students loans, lmao).
Also the no overns in a dorm like where I'm form you have to have a fully equipped kitchen in the dorm so it encourages everyone to eat properly and not just microwaved food since that's bad for your health, (had an art teacher that did only eat microwaved chips every day while at uni and now she dosent have a fully functioning digestive system so helps prove the point)
I have a friend in the Netherlands who told me that tuition is not free there unless you are accepted into one of the best schools. So I would say that the low tuition and fees are either California or Europe.

I'll be honest, real life bores me. When I play sims, I like to create chaos, I like supernatural beings and I love the Grim Reaper. I think that if it exists that much of mods to create more drama, like the violence mod and all, it's because a lot of players want to have surprises and bad things happened to their sims. I don't want an utopia. I want CHAOS.
Me too, most people want realism for the sims but I play the game escape reality, not dive into another version of it. And if that means sending my lesbian vampire off to fight a giant alien plant with the help of a chaotic witch and an actual humanoid alien, So Be It!!

I love this topic about the sims lore, and I really liked this video, but I need to say a couple of things: Hidden Springs is suppose to be separate from Sim Nation because has, how you sayed in the video, a royal and ruling household. That means Hidden Springs is a separate kingdom from SimNation (I like to think of it like a sort of sim equivalent of San Marino). Something similar happen to San Mayshuno: the Career of politics introduced in City Living refers to a single parliament, but we know from the past games that SimNation has a parliament and a congress like the USA. That means that San Mayshuno is another republic separate from Sim Nation. And that is partially confirmed by the same devs, that sayed that the city is inspired by city states like Singapore and Hong Kong.
Obviously what I sayed here is not 100% facts because actually we didn't know much about how actually is managed SimNation if not some description.
My opinion about the question if Sim Nation is an utopia: I think not, from the real word is better in many ways, but in other is actually worse (criminality seem to be really rampant if the criminal careers has ads on news paper and web 😂). I think like every society Sim Nation has his ups and down.

@@blueghost4769 It's a visual representation of their body's state or "needs", green for good, yellow for average and red for bad.
The various kingdoms in the Sims Medieval start out separate. You have to select them from the territory map to ally them, then complete a quest to annex them.
I guess when we brought up "Utopia" in the sexuality video. we (or atleast I) used the word in the sense that it is a form of escapism for LGBT players to create sims who can be with who they want to be without the homophobic hate speech. In actuality, the Sim nation is a utopia for some and not for others. Some (like LGBT, people of color, etc) can experience an egalitarian perfection that they can't have in the real world. However, of course, there are sims that are poor sims that can loose their whole family in a fire or get their prized belongings stolen from them only getting back a few thousand, social services permanently separating families with no 2nd chance, no unemployment benefits. Some things are designed into the game to spice things up and add an incentive to try and make your sims work for what they have.
Thanks for this! Couldn't agree more. The comments actually made me think about The Sims in general and their world which made me want to talk a bit about how it's not fully a Utopia. I think they threw in just the right amount of spice to make gameplay safe for everyone but at the same time keep it interesting.
I suppose what I meant in my previous video is that sometimes the gameplay falls flat for me in terms of realism, but I didn't think about which parts deserve to be realistic and the others that wouldn't make sense!

I did have an idea for a sims 3 mod where once you get leader of the free world. You actually get to make decisions that effect the neighborhood in it's entirety. Such as having to balance a city budget alongside reputation and there would be a whole system with policies and taxation and whatnot you could deal with. Though, if I wanted to really role play as a mayor, I could just launch up Sim city.

There are not elections in the Sims. The leader of the free world will stay forever. Even he/she can die and develop his/her political career as a ghost. He/she will eventually be kicked out if he/she is caught stealing 50 simoleons from campaign funds. Sims logic or he/she is not the best friend of his/her workmate, the podium polisher, which is a very selective job every Sim has access to. Sims logic.

From a european point of view (more specifically french) many details in the Sims 2 that make the game more realistic to Americans are actually what makes Simnation feel unfamiliar to me. For example, the mailboxes, the schoolbus, the food, the way college works, the way houses are built, and many details like the design of objects or cultural references...
I dont think the Sims is utopian. At best it is a sugarcoated representation of the US with a touch of parody. I'm glad Sims are colorblind, non homophobic, and that sexual violence does not exist though. We get enough of that irl, i dont play to see my sims suffer. I mostly build and rarely play live mode anyway...

Little thing, sims 4 doesn’t treat illnesses in the hospital, they have to be treated at home, even though we can give birth in hospitals. Pets can be treated in vet clinics though

At least in the sims 4, the 'imperfections' doesn't seem to cause any inconvenience along the line, there are no repercussions for being 'bad' and other sims aren't really affected by your actions to them, so i think it is kind of a utopia in a way. As in, it doesn't matter how 'bad' you are, the world would still be good, if you get what i mean.

Usually when I play sims 3 (since idk why I don’t like sims 4 all that much). I sort of make up lore within it, sometimes it makes sense like the bills are actually rent in the game for the house you live in and etc. Which honestly would be interesting if it was rent.
The geography of sim nation always interested me. Since I’ve been playing, I’ve been trying to piece it all together. Since the sims4 takes place in an alternate universe, some locations are slightly different in terms of the man made stuff (town names and landmarks). I only have 3 and 4 (i wanna play 2 and medieval so badly) but I strongly believe Strange Town and Strangerville are close together or at least alternate versions of the same place. Without further ado, here’s what I’ve theorized based on my own gameplay:
We don’t see vampires in every town when you start the game, which leads me to believe they are a minority and stick to themselves a lot. Especially since they’d avoid many sunny towns, but we do know Bridgeport and Moonlight falls have vampire history. They are both costal cites and it’s possible that vampires from Moonlight Falls have immigrated to Bridgeport very easily if they were close.
It’s highly possible there’s multiple mountain ranges, but I think the desert towns are closer to the towns by mountains. Lucky Palms would have to be close to places like Moonlight Falls, and the soon to be Oasis Landing. We also know Oasis Landing is a either a coastal location or a by a Great Lake.
And I’m pretty sure Sunlight Tides is down south but I’m not sure??? 🤔
The small crimes are interesting to play but the big ones are a big no no

I think there is not an exact map of SimNation because we players (as God) have our own vision of how everything will look. Also, I like to think that the SimNation is in other planet, not on Earth. I once read a theory that stated that Sims are some kind on alien species (aside of the aliens in the game) because of their biological nature and how they can mix with aliens, vampiers, etc.

(Warning Wall of Text) Thing is in the sims 2 there is a career chance card mentioning an opposing power to simcity called "Red City" which is likely a reference to the cold war and US/USSR tensions so if we go by the timeline in the sims 3 Simerica or Sim Nation is either in the (the world of the universe at least) Is in grips of a cold war considering The sims 3 takes place 50 years before the events of the sims took place assuming the Sims takes place exactly when it was released (and we can obviously see in the game SimCity 4 that Simerica or Sim Nation has a nuclear program and missile testing program) so quite clearly the sims series (excluding the vacation expansions) takes place in a very much satirised version of america (which accurately represents how in sunset valley we see so many ethnic groups in the names (for example Vita Alto could be Italian or Portuguese whereas Nick (Or Nicholas) Alto is quite clearly Greek in name derivatives (I mean for crying out loud in appaloosa Planes there is a Native American Family) in addition to say names like Kimora Ansari or Wan (quite clearly Asian sounding) as well as semi traditional names I could see names like Goddard Wolff & Crumplebottom showing up somewhere in history (and it has quite clearly been indicated that some families share relation across neighborhood borders for example the Goths and Wolff's in Moonlight Falls or the Altos in Bridgeport and isla Paridiso it seems as if they quite clearly knew their inspiration somewhat (especially since Sunset valley Riverview Twinbrook moonlight falls Bridgeport and starlight shores All feature american construction styles (be it from the Victorian era to some form of brutalist design architecturally speaking) not to mention references to Car Culture in america (For example fixing up a wrecked car or painting it in a unique design especially since the Coca Cola deal had a 1940s (or late 30s) station wagon with woody styling and chrome bumpers and trim definitely american influence there and then there's the motorcycles in the sims 3 quite clearly based on Harley Davidson motorcycles mostly common in america

I play in Veronaville. In my mind it is alternative world, with technologies of 2000`s, but where a few previous centuries of history came in different way. I explain it with their different lifespan, and existing of aliens (wich don`t help, but just demotivate from being too ambitious), which can`t live in these atmosphere anyway

I think up until the Sims 3, the developers really tried creating a new world. However in the sims 4, I feel like they assimilated the sims more to american culture because it's easier and they don't have to create lore.

About Sim Nation, there's an interesting thing I notice. Eventually, Sim Nation has much relaxed traffic law - to the point helicopters are allowed to land at a citizen driveway legally to pick them up for work. And the sims appear to have really good driving training because I don't remember my sims ever got in any accident driving in their cars... That's just something that jolted my mind.

@@Sam-on5jf yeah I think you're right. When it first came out, I was thinking, "why isn't it more money!?" Then I realized, "other countries have it better than us" and do think this was a happy medium. I just subtract more money from their account using cheats to make it more realistic.

I play Sims 2 w/all expansion packs. I also use Microsoft Excel, came up with a Mortgage/loan system where I will use cheat code to add money to a Sims account balance. I'll then uses cheat code to make loan payments.

I always assumed SimNation was a city state - like Monaco 🇲🇨, Singapore 🇸🇬 or Vatican City 🇻🇦. Even with Pleasantview explicitly being a suburb of Sim City, all the other neighbourhoods revolve around Sim City. Way more than if Sim City was a capital city. It’s like there is nothing else outside of Sim City. I’m excluding vacation destinations from this, as you always picked up different cultures from those destinations so they are canonically other nations to me

The criminal career should involve an option to follow your sim to work or work from home (the night shift). That way you could break into people's homes and steal stuff. I would love it if they extended the criminal career. Or even the law enforcement career. It would be awesome if you could arrest people in the street if you spot a wanted criminal or give tickets for fighting, and increase work performance.
I would like to take a closer look at that map. Ive always wanted a map to connect the worlds.

If The Sims was hyper-realistic and was like the real world, I would still play it because for a long time, ever since I was 10 I always created the perfect Sims, I created two Sims and gave them the perfect life. No drama, no divorces, arguments, rivalries, enemies, etc. And when I got older, I became bored. Then 5 years ago I saw Pleasantsims channel and seeing the way she plays The Sims and does a want/wishes-based gameplay opened my eyes. I was inspired by her gameplay, so I play the games like she does. From now on, I fulfilled their wants/wishes and let them choose their friends, families, and who they want to be with. Even if it's something bad that ruins their relationships, careers, etc. For example I was playing The Sims a few days ago and I was playing The Goth Household, Don wanted to flirt with Nina in front of Cassandra so I was like okay. And when he did it, Cassandra was furious and heartbroken and divorced Don. So I fulfill my Sims wants and desires, however their choices have consequences. I thank Pleasant Sims for inspiring me to do this. It's like doing something I didn't know I liked. I want my Sims to be more alive and have struggles in their lives not by making forces struggles on my own, but by playing my Sims and treating them like humans fulfilling what they want in their lives, and letting them understand that their choices have consequences. Because if I make them happy all the time and give them the perfect life with no drama, violence, making enemies, divorces, break-ups, etc they are like robots not having free will, and that gets boring. So that is my summary of why I love hyper-realistic gameplay and everything else.
I mean, Jim Pickens exists in the Sims universe so obviously it's a utopia. All ruled by our dear leader.
Wait so would The Islands From Island Living and Island Paradise Islands Be Hawaii... so then they arent connected to the mainland but they are still the same "Sim" as the others
I think if Sims had more realistic crimes, it would probably be 16 or 18+ instead of 12 and up depending on what crimes would be added.
Crimes like:
- Murder
- Abduction (not by aliens)
- Sexual abuse
- Drug abuse
- Domestic abuse
And so much more, who knows. As for how many people would still buy and play the game even with those kind of things implemented, i'm not sure. I personally would feel a little worried, unsure of how much would be shown. Especially crimes that involve sexual and/or domestic abuse, i feel many people would complain and others may even be triggered.
In the end, i personally don't think that the sims franchise would be as popular today if they had more serious crimes implemented.
I do think the crimes that should be in the sims 4 are robberies and maybe more job events. You know how every now and then, while a sim is working they are given a small box with something like "Bob can either complain to his boss or he can ignore it, what should he do?" and you're given two choices.
I think what would be cool is if events like earth quakes, bank robberies, shoplifting, school intruders, etc were added in. You'd be given life or death choices that, if the wrong choice is chosen, your sim could have a possibility of death. I think it could also end up teaching the younger players on how they should handle what situations they're in.
I love the sims for the surreal things you can do in the game. So "realistic" (just american, i dont have to pay for university for example) things just dont fit in to my gameplay
I don't think the game should be ulta realistic as it wouldn't feel like a sims game but I do think they should bring back some stuff from previous games. Unlike in previous games, unless you download mods your sim can't go to private school or invite the headmaster over to try and get into private school. I think homework should be more than just a function to progress in school. I believe they should help develop skills, and on top of that I believe there should be more skills learned in lessons. I also think there should be more pop ups for both children and teens like say 'Emma is new to the school and Emily thinks she's really cool. Emily wants to ask Emma to be her friend but she's afraid she's not cool enough. Should she take the risk?' and if. You click yes and all going well then your sim has made a new friend rather than the' make friends' option that brings down performance. That just isn't realistic because you can make friends in breaks and lunches which wouldn't bring down your learning at all as its not in lesson. Or like something similar being this 'Emma got partnered with Emily today and now she wants to be friends. Does Emily want to be friends with Emma?'
Or for teen relationships it could be 'Tom is seriously Cute!!! Emily wants to ask him out! Should she?'
And if she says yes and tells her friend they're dating they could get a little notification saying something like 'Emily just told Emma she is dating Tom and she doesn't think Emma is happy about it. Does she like him too or is she jealous?' something like that
I also want more aspiration traits aimed at just teenagers how toddlers have aspirations just for them and children are the same but teens don't and I don't think that's realistic. I think teen sims should have aspirations suitable for their age like 'become popular at school' or 'arsy geek' or 'teen heartbreaker' or something. Like an aspiration that unlocks a character trait that is only available while you're a teen. Say you have a sim who you want to be a little emo, well to achieve that trait you must have an aspirations thats like 'listen to rock on the radio' and 'dye your hair a new colour' and stuff like that and at the end you gain the emo trait.
I also think it would be cooler if there was more life stages like preteen stages. I feel like going from a 9-10 year old child straight to say 18 as a teenager is a bit too much of a skip as baby, toddler, child, young adult, adult and elder are so close together. I think it would be fun if not necessarily it mentions it but where we see our sims going through awkward puberty years. I mean the game is aimed at 12 year old but they don't have to outwardly say it necessarily. It could be something like little moodlets. Like 'Tom's voice is doing weird things where it suddenly goes really high and then really low. Is he sick? Do people notice?!' and he gets the embarrassed emotion. Or something like 'Emily has learned something totally gross at school today. Why was everyone laughing? It's disgusting. She has to do WHAT?! From WHERE?!'
It's a cheeky little nod to those who know. A little like a dirty joke hidden for the older people in a Disney film. And if preteens do get introduced I want preteen crushes. Not like full relationships but little things cute first relationships people used to do like 'Emma has a crush on Emily. Should she leave a little note for her to ask her to be her girlfriend?' and then maybe something like 'Emily held Emma's hand today. It was magical!"
Or cutsie things like kisses and cheeks and stuff. It would be cool to introduce the concept of playable characters to go to jail. Maybe if you have the kleptomaniac trait and you stole something someone could call the police and then your aim would go into a rabbit hole or something for 3 sims days and then be released or something. Or if you're in the criminal career you could get caught by the police like "Oh no! Nate was sure he'd thought out the perfect plan but the heist for the plumbob necklace went terribly! Officer Sim has come to take. Him. Away. Maybe he should spend this time to rethink his ways... Or plot his revenge."
Maybe a preschool could be introduced too, for the toddler sims to go rather than hiring nanny. I know you can send them to daycare when no one is on the lot but they don't gain skills or meet other toddlers. You can't click and them and control them a little while they're there. It would be so much better if your sim had to drop their kid off at daycare and pick them up and they met other toddlers and made friends and learned skills.
I don't know something like that. There's so much that I. Think. The game. Is. Lacking. But. I don't want. To. Repeat what other. People have already said so. I thought I'd write my own unique thoughts. For someone who. Has pretty much bought every pack other than journey to. Batuu I do think sometimes the sims. Is a waste of. Money. Even when my game. Is. Free of. Mods, completely vanilla the loading screens alone are long. And seem to. Get longer each update. The graphics are beautiful, far better than the other sims games like CAS and BB but actual game play is lacking. I miss the times when you could cuddle on the couch and snuggle together on the bed like a real romantic pair. I miss the feel of love the sims used to have.

The Sims 4 is basically 1 city, and each place is a different neighborhood since sims can go back and forth through them freely. For example, going by the map, your sims couldn't live in Oasis Springs and then hop over to San Myshuno to hit the clubs; but of course, in the game, they easily can.
I would okay the sims even more if I could be a legit serial killer. So many gameplay and diy stories could come from that

To be honest I like that in the Sims games you have quirky and realistic aspects. I think you have to look at the games itself to determine if it is an Utopia or not. For example, the Sims 4 is by default an Utopia in my opinion. Sims 4 doesn't have that much family lore like the other games. No one has enemys ans because of the emotion System, the sims will almost always be happy if the room is decorated. But if you play with mods or actively shape the Gameplay into something "evil" then it is obviously not an Utopia anymore. However if you compare Sims 4 with Sims 2 and 3, then it is in my opinion still an Utopia...

I always thought will wright intented to not have the Sims or SimCity based off of a specific country. I believe there was an interview with him where he stated he used US style looks for it to be more easily recognised globally. But he added SimCity/Simnation is any place you want it to be.
