    Have used Covert trail cameras for years. Various models, some really good, some so so. I currently run five trail cams at my hunting location. Just bought two Brownings based on positive reviews from other YT sites. Just my preference, if it doesn't have a pic preview screen, I don't care how well it works. Also, Covert went cheezy on some of the preview screens and some models went down to a tiny 1 inch screen that made you want to pry your eyes out of your head to read it. Big preview screen is number one for me along with Full HD video and good sound quality. My new Brownings have 1080p at 60 frames per second. Most HD are 720 or 1080 at 30 frames. If the animal is moving slow, or standing still, 30 frames works, but anything trotting by, or if you want to play in slow motion, 60 frames per second is bomb.

    Great review as always! I have 2 of the browning strike forces that I got last year and I have really liked them. I also have about 6 WGIs and a couple of cheap Amazon brand ones. The strike forces are definitely a step above all the rest, but I have had really good luck with the WGIs over the years (I have one from 2011 that still works). Might have to check out the stealth cams too.

    You should try some of those cheap-o cams from Amazon. I have one that cost me $45 which spent 3 hours underwater when a river rose 14' (even taking video of fish swimming by!) which I'm still using a year later. It's not a no-glo, but for $45 I cannot complain TOO much :)

    I've used game cameras for a long time. Had Wildgame, Stealth, Moultrie and Browning. The only one that last season after season and with one set of batteries for 6-8 months is the Browning. The Wildgame is junk, never had one last more than a year. The Stealth, have 3 currently and 2 don't consistently take pictures and the batteries need changed twice as much as the Browning. The Browning cameras are built well and easy to use. I disagree with photo quality, the Browning is by far better. I have 7 Browning cameras that range from 1 yr to 5 yrs old, no issues, still going strong.

    I have 12 Browning cameras of different models and I have not had a failure prior to 4 years of continuous use. The very first one I purchased has been running in the woods for 8 years now, and of several brands that I've tried the Brownings have the best sound of any. Most of the failures are related to night time illumination while the camera continues to function in daylight. I run most of them on video all of the time. I am about 6 months into testing a mid priced Bushnell and I am pretty impressed with the images, video, and sound from this camera although the battery life is not great. It's not great on any that I've seen being run on video continuously. There is no doubt that better cameras cost more money. Great video, by the way!

    Great video! This was really helpful. I have a new place, and wanted to see what kind of animals were coming through, but trying to pick one on Amazon by looking at reviews started to get very daunting. Definitely people saying that the reality didn’t match the specs. And the reliability might be sketchy also. At least this is giving me a great place to start with the #1, 2, 3.

  • @kevinmoore8780
    @kevinmoore8780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks. I like the practical approach and the step by step review of the criteria. No wasted time which I find on far too many videos by others. The only thing I would suggest is maybe eliminating those early on that didn't perform and focus on your top 3-4. I keep looking at the lists and trying to absorb it all before you moved on. So for example when you said the Alphacam was your third pick - I don't think I had even been looking at its stats as your eye is caught by more well known brand names. It just means I have to go back and watch again. :-) Lastly, and this is common on many trail cam videos, we really want to see more of the images that it takes. The hardware, battery, menu etc is important but in the end, it always comes down to the quality of the images. So you can never go wrong showing more of those especially if under natural conditions. I enjoyed the tine of the elk shot more than the ones of you walking by the camera. So suggestions and not criticisms as I do like your videos.

    Have been running my Browning Trail cams for several months now. They're low light and night video is just incredible. Something I am experimenting with is using RainX (for auto windshield) on my lens and lens cover. It is supposed to rain several days this week, so good test. Frustrating to have nice bucks come by, and a wet, fogged up lens takes a vague, cloudy video. RainX coats the lens and causes rain drops to roll off of the surface.

    • @livenfree
      @livenfree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How did the rainx work?

    • @Kurtdog63
      @Kurtdog63 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@livenfree Seems to work for a few weeks but needs to be re-applied. Sometimes condensation forms on the inside of the lens, so won't help with that. I think placing camera where it can get direct sun from behind or the side can help the camera heat up and dry off more quickly. If you set it where it stays in the shade and gets frost on it, it may take foggy pictures for a longer period of time.

    Very interesting video guys, however couple questions. Did you use lithium batteries? I ran a test with batteries in same camera and it makes a difference. The lithium batteries made the camera perform closer to the specs. Also when doing this test, could you show sample videos and pictures of each camera. Along with not having the sun directly in front of the camera it doesn't help give an accurate idea of quality of pictures because the camera fights with the sun during this process.
    Not trying to be a hater just feel if you did these things you might end up with different results.

    First I was thinking that trail camera prices are pretty cheap in USA compare to Finnish prices, all my cameras are 199€ at least (except for one crappy Moultrie 900i, which was 179€), but then noticed that those are non-sending cameras.
    Personally I like the models where the screen is inside, in sending cameras it isn't really a problem. Spromise cameras (sold here in Finland under Burrel brand name) are pretty great. Have fiddled with few other brands (Scoutguard, Moultrie) and the menu and design logic generally in them just suck compared to Spromise cameras

    I started with cams in 2015 and qualify was all over the map. I thought it was due to the industry being relatively new, and figured product reliability and quality would improve over time. Almost a decade later and it’s still a gamble purchasing cans. Even the same model from the same brand can have major quality variation. It’s beyond me why after this long, the manufacturers cannot produce a decent reliable product in the $150-$225 price range. Nothing has improved.

    What is the sound quality like? If you don't think it is important, sample a camera that has good sound and one that has poor or low level sound and I think you will agree the entertainment level for the video with good sound is greatly improved. Deer grunting, turkey drumming, coyotes howling, or approaching fast foot steps of an animal just add so much. Video quality can be greatly effected by the location of the sun when photos are taken, or if the camera is angled too much up toward the sky, it will adjust for higher light in the back ground and everything in the foreground will be dark. If possible, set the camera higher off the ground and put a small stick behind the top of the camera so it will angle the camera down and this will reduce the background bright sky issue. This can also change the comparison results when testing one camera to another on a partly cloudy day as the sun goes in and out behind the clouds. My opinion, if the camera has no pic viewer, I don't care what else it does great, not interested in camera without the viewer. The best tip I ever received for camera photo setup is to set the camera on 2 photo mode. Many times the first pic will be a nose or tip of the antler, or no animal at all, and the second pic will be the entire animal. Thanks for the review.

    I’m assuming you’re scoring 1-10 10 being the best, so is it stealth cam or the browning one that’s the best?

    If someone is going to run a few cameras most of those will be fine but if you are going to run alot of cameras I'd go with Tasco. $28 at Walmart for an extra $2 you can get a 2 year warranty and instead of dealing with some crappy customer service just walk in Walmart and grab a new one. Ive ran 15 tasco for a year now and do anything $150 cameras do. Only way I'd go high end is wireless cameras

    ive got the Amcrest ATC-1201. all of its features are top notch except for one. the night vision absolutely sucks. it can light stuff up maybe 3ft in front of it, beyond that its pitch black. when most animals are nocturnal what good is a trail camera that cant see in the dark? because of that i hate this thing.

    CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE! I want to buy a trail cam but I haven't figured out which one to buy and I've been looking at them for the past month! I thought the E6 was the way to go because it's got everything I need... I need Bluetooth so I can put pictures directly from the camera onto my phone cuz I don't use a computer... I'm kind of lost as far as if I need Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I thought Bluetooth is what I needed in order to hook it to my phone and transfer pictures / videos. Also has to have time lapse mode, built in screen, clear pictures day and night without a visible flash at night time and clear audio, I don't know if this is available but I would like to be able to control it from my phone if I'm in range and make it record when I tell it to whether it be a picture or video/audio that would be nice. I'm going to probably end up using it mostly for security/surveillance type of applications. I want to make sure it take the picture at the right time to get whatever it is in screen... I watched and I saw someone said the Gu
    gardepro E8 constantly was taking pictures where you wouldn't see what was tripping it and on top of that it was extremely grainy blurry pictures if it was up close and they said the E6 was it not blurry up-close as well as didn't miss what it was supposed to take the picture of and a few other things but it seemed like the E6 was much better than the E8. Also it has to be under a hundred bucks preferably closer to 80 or below. I saw the E6 on Amazon for like a hundred bucks and then it had a coupon attached to it where would come out to be around 70 or $80. Anybody who could help me figure out which one I should buy I'd highly appreciate it! I really want to order it and get it ASAP I wanted it like 2 weeks ago but I don't want to get the wrong one

    I like your review format, you had good intent, but I'm confused why you scored the stealthcam a 7 on image preview if it doesn't have a preview screen? Also when you compared the stealth cam image to the browning image, you said the stealth cam was a better image and it was clearly more hazy and not as good to me. When comparing images, you should shoot them on a tripod and exact same conditions of your subject. Your words and ratings don't match the evidence and scoring data. I would like to have seen your measurements on the lens performance where you said you measured the wide angle shots. Browning doesn't list this in their specs and the Edge cameras are clearly more telephoto than Advantage series. I shoot mostly video with my cameras, so I try to get only cameras that will shoot 60 FPS for slow motion editing. I know this is a critical comment, but I appreciate your time to make the video and your efforts.

    I wish trail cameras had Bluetooth to transfer pictures to my phone. This would also let me put it higher up and not worry about accessing the SD card.

    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
