UK is going all in on fiscal stimulus to keep the rich and attract investment. The demographics are also the issue, you need the workers, and people with the right skills and they don't appear by magic overnight as employers seem to think they do. Gold is still a rudey-word as long as Russia/China hoard it and may dump it into the markets, which is why there is almost no institutional buying until they figure that one out.

In fairness, I think he was referring to the 'official' assessment of inflation in the US. It is probably outside convention / civility for a European to question the US Government's official assessment of their own rate of inflation, in the course of an interview that is to be broadcast in the US. Diplomacy is always required if you are operating in an international arena.
And he was not directly questioned on his thoughts on the true US inflation rate, so any comment he might have made on it, would have been outside the remit of the interview.
