Lol! I’m breaking them all! I colored my hair and decided a couple of years ago to go au naturale! It was beautiful and a mostly silver. Then came a breast cancer diagnosis last Jan and I became a survivor with chemo hair, that is NO HAIR! It’s now returning and it is pure white and I’m elated! I love white hair! Btw, I’m 64 and looking forward to another 30 or more! Thanks for your encouragement!

When my mom’s hair started growing back after chemo for breast cancer, it was gray and uneven and looked like she’d cut it herself with garden shears. Being a conservative Sunday school teacher with a brunette traditional hairstyle most of her life, she still wearing her wigs but it was summer and hot. I had to do some convincing, but she was feeling triumphant and relented to my suggestion: get an Annie Lennox inspired flattop and dye it bright red so it looked completely intentional, and buy some big chunky earrings! She looked like the warrior she had become! Although she eventually grew it back to its original look, the change was empowering at the time, and was a clear signal that she had grown into a brave survivor. Wishing you all the best, warrior!

Many years ago, when I was in my teens, a well dressed woman in her 40’s and of mid size, told me that any woman of any age or size can wear ANYthing, provided it is worn with confidence. Own it and you will look fabulous! I have never forgotten her advice. 😊

I love red lipstick, and wear different shades of red. The other day at work I was told by some of my over 50 co-workers that once you are over 50 you shouldn't be wearing red lipstick. I am 54 and wear it often because I think it looks good and makes me happy. I think that so many ladies over 45, 50 look fantastic. They are fit, look great, and seem happy in their skin. Today's 50 isn't my grand-mother's or even my mother's 50 and thank goodness for that. I just discovered your channel today and subscribed. You are gorgeous and I loved hearing what you had to say. Thank you.

  • @janienichols46
    @janienichols46 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Yay Beth!! This is one of the best videos you have done!! At 63, I like to break all of the fashion rules you talk about. I’m 5’4” and like the proportions of a skirt that comes right above the knee. I think what makes us look and feel our best will always be a good fashion choice!
Another rule that should be broken when it comes to hair is the appropriate length for a woman over 50. As I aged I started wearing my hair shorter because I bought into the myth that long hair ages you. Well, I finally figured out that the shorter hairstyles were too harsh for my face and that a softer, longer length looks better! I’m so glad I broke that rule!
Thanks for representing women of a certain age so well and with such grace!! Can’t wait for the next video!

@Dela Flowers pretend to be twenty? Seriously? There is many young girls that shouldn't leave a house in mini skirt or leggings. If a 50+ woman has good legs why does she have to cover them but a young girl with bad legs can show them? Why ripped jeans are not proper for mature women? What that has to do with age?

Just found you and am SO happy I did....I’m 60 and started a “new” career (at first part-time) as a fashion stylist about 5 years ago. I just wanted to tell you that I agree with absolutely every word you said.....I have been searching FOREVER for a fashion youtuber my own age that is gorgeous (i.e. puts in practice her own advice), has her info/act together and talks fashion sense!!!! I’m going to watch every single one of your videos right this minute.... I say that there are NO fashion rules at ANY age, wear whatever the hell you like. As long as YOU feel like your best self when you leave the house, who cares what anyone (especially younger) else thinks. My mother-in-law told my daughter-in-law that I dress “too young for my age”. What does that mean, exactly??? I tell all my clients that the only fashion rule is that there are no rules. And I too let my hair go gray (at first artificially) and now it’s naturally a beautiful silvery white and actually thicker than it’s ever been. And strangely enough, I get compliments constantly (mostly from younger folks too!). Am just excited and, to be honest, relieved that there is a gal on youtube my age that know of what she speaks. 🙏

Me too, and far more from men than women. The only people who advise me to color are my parents’ age -82. I would never change my silvers for another color. This is the only shade of hair I’ve ever loved on me. I remain the sole silver woman in all of my social circles, and always think about the needless money and time they spend coloring their hair.

Hi Beth. Just celebrated my 60th bday. I ditched the hair dye 11 months ago. I love wearing jeans of all styles and dresses, above the knee, with black tights. Also love to rock a bold lipstick. I physically feel the effects of aging (arthritis) but feel more positive about myself then when I was younger. Thank you for the encouragement👏🏻👏🏻🥰

thanks for stopping by mary! i'm so happy to hear you're embracing your age with style and grace. there are so many things out of our control like arthritis but there are so many factors like style that we can control.

Just found your channel and I love it! I am 53 and shopping for my first pair of leather (faux-leather) black pants. I have much more confidence now (aka "don't-care-idence") and have learned to turn a deaf ear to "rules" and anything Emily Post. The result I'm finding is that I like myself much more now than when I was 30!

Great advice! I'm 61 and I used to color my hair red but recently I just decided to rock my greys in a short afro style. I feel liberated in many ways!
Also I always experiment with lipstick with red being my favourite.
I live in the tropics so I only wear jeans when it gets a bit cool but I basically wear whatever I want in a very tasteful way. Thank you for this video and stay beautiful ❤️

Beth, great video and I love your style. I also LOVE that you said, "rock that short skirt"! I appreciate a mature woman looking and feeling their best with style and class. Throw in her personality spunk and it's elevated! I'm 50 and I struggle to find things I like that compliment my short, curvy stature. I keep finding elastic waists and awful embellishments. So hard for me to find stylish petite garments as of late.

You get ‘em, Beth, ha! Thanks for unlocking those ‘restrictions’ for those over 50! I just turned 60😧 & love my (slightly) distressed jeans. I am only 5’2” so look much better in above the knee dresses than a midi length. Will continue to wear these as long as the legs allow...as I continue regular workouts! You are lovely in everything that you wear & I so appreciate how you show us that we can still dress younger than our age in a stylish & classic way. Keep those videos coming. God’s blessings to you & your family.

I'm just a couple of short years behind you, but I don't think about my age unless someone else brings it up. Then it's always a surprise. My hair is still its original color, but I can see white strands that never used to be there. I like my brown and will probably color when it comes down to it, because I want to see "me" when I look in the mirror. I love your attitude about those rules! I think one of the best things about being "older" is having earned our sense of self. I know what I like, and don't like, and no one is going to pigeonhole me. I'm certainly not taking orders from some 12-year-old with a ringlight. You are a fabulous example for those of us who just are who we are, no matter what the numbers say. Thank you!

I always wanted to have pixie haircut. My hairdresser said
I was too fat for it. The other hairstylist told me I needed longer hair to cover up my facial features. she put her hand over her face and cringed to make an ugly face. I guess she was trying to tell me I was too far and ugly. Lol. I left and got my pixie somewhere else. I got so many compliments.

I like to try new looks .I am 72 and love fashion. I like to go out looking my best.. And it makes me feel good. I don't like to hear when buying clothes * age appropriate* really ! I do not think old and never have. As you have shown , we can look great at any age. I think your personal style is so elegant .Whatever you wear always looks so right.. Have a great day! x

Thanks, Beth. I am 76 and I still love fashion. I am short and dumpy and I try to keep up with fashion, hoping that I select the in things that help me look my best and make me feel good. I have loved my white hair since age 40 and I love red lipstick. I agree with all but 1 of your “rules to break” for my, I hate my knees but I have hated them since I was 13. Thanks again for affirming my 76 year old attitude about fashion.
