Now that I'm older REALLY weary of females being judged based on their birthdate and looks. Women in 20 's & early 30's with 10 kids and a gazillion stretch marks are considered to have (fleeting) value, but once the birth calendar chimes mid/late 30's then their value suddenly disappears, even those that still have body condition from their 20's. Meanwhile gray haired old men get to live brand new lives.. and we women gladly judge each other - until we unknowingly stumble into that magical cancel birthdate! IMO wear whatever passes your personal standard and continually reassess if it holds up because skin/muscles have started to sag or change your structure in certain body areas, etc.

I’ll be 69 this year. While food shopping a few days ago a well dressed and groomed woman about 10 years older than me, complimented me by saying, “ You look so adorable.” I responded by saying, “ and so are you!” My immediate impression was this lady was friendly, enjoyed life and was joyous while she valued herself to care about her appearance in public. I’d like to add she had a wonderful sense of humor too. Simply a delightful soul!

Why is the video cut in half don't get a full visual. I still wear T-shirts some with design or saying on the front. I wear linen onsie coveralls for comfort and they art light for wearing in the heat. I don't wear heels or bootys my feet hurt so I still have to wear my suede fleece lined bootees'. My world is quit laid back not much dressing up. I have moved to more natural fabrics for jewelry it's silver anything not chunky. I guess I'm more for comfy in my 60's
@@wendygraham6863 I totally agree with you I am 56 and I still wear mini skirts and show a bit of cleavage and I am told that I still look good and I still get wolf whistled at by men of all ages
I had a pencil skirt that looked great on me when I weighed 125 pounds and was about 40 years old. I hung onto that skirt for 30 years because I knew I was gonna get back to 125 someday. Now I realize that even if I did get down to that weight everything has shifted, moved and sagged.
When I crossed over 60 I did a massive clean out of my wardrobe. I had a lifetime collection of wonderful clothing which I never wore anymore. This included several gowns from various galas I'd attended. I selected the most valuable, had them dry cleaned & placed them in a consignment store. There were some pieces that held sentimental value I turned into home goods. A couple quilts, sweaters became decor pillows and so on. The balance I donated to a charity shop. I made one last pass to organize a 40 piece all classics capsule wardrobe. Now I add a couple pieces each season I may or may not keep. I don't follow any specific rules rather rely on what I love.
One of the beautiful things about being over 60 is that I have come to use my own judgement on most things and once I make my decision, what others think is of little worth.
I remember about 15 years or more a so call fashion expert said to throw away all your denim clothes and at the time I thought, no way in the world , I'm so glad I didn't throw away my denim clothes because as you can see denim never goes out of style, it's more popular now than ever has been. So stop listening to the so-called experts , and do you.

Wearing the colors that are best for my skin tone usually makes me look my best! I am 66 and love jeans, dress them up dress down, but look my best even at home. Not about trying to look younger but being me and no one else! Thank you!
I selling cars in Lss Vegas. I was talking to a woman. I complimented a lady I said she looked great. I said you look great, I love the way you are dressed. She was 85. She told me she gets everything at Savers. A thrift store in Las Vegas. I give the girls a couple bucks to tell me when the good stuff comes in. Sense of humor and style.
I love that I am now at an age where I don’t have to worry about what people think ........ but I try not to be mutton dressed as lamb so minis and crop tops are out
I'm 55, but already scales down not just my wardrobe but my entire home contents. Nothing to do with fashion but all to do with less things for others/family to do when I suddenly pop my clogs.
Dorrie nailed this topic. “Only have clothing in your closet that you actually wear.” I did this purge during the summer and it’s absolutely freeing to know I can wear every item, that they’re flattering, and I actually want to wear them. Seems like such a simple thing, but is truly transformative!
I am purging my closet now. My winter project. Getting ready to donate to the Vietnam Vets truck coming Monday and getting rid of a lot of stuff cluttering up my little apt.
Amen I pulled everything out of my closet Had 3 boxes- #1. Keep since item fits #2 donate still wearable but does not fit today #3 toss -faded worn out etc Among the keep there were some items that were 1 size too small which I put in boxes according to season so when next season comes ex winter I will pull this box down in November and see if anything fits before I go shopping Dorrie and Debbie are right “Only have clothing in closet that you actually wear “
Seriously, who crowned her the Dali Lama of clothes? Not everyone can afford or have a reason to wear high heel boots. I have goats, chickens and an emu, trust me, they don't care how I look. And for the record, I'm married 45 years, if for some reason I found myself alone, I wouldn't be looking for a date, I'd be enjoying the peace and quiet.
Dog Lover, the advice there is to wear what you want to feel good. She is living a different life in different circumstaces and places. We all have a different path. It is just to accept other people as they are and take from them what ever resonate to us not to copy them. What ever works for you girl.
I AM A DOG LOVER,I USED TO SHOW DOGS,AND I OFTEN WORE CERTAIN CLOTHS TO COMPLEMENT MY DOGS,I SPENT ALL MY EXTRA MONEY ON MY DOGS,USED BETTER SHAMPOO ON THEM AND I USED THE CHEAPEST ! I STILL HAVE DOGS,BUT NOW THEY ARE SMALL AND WASHSH AND WEAR AND I LOVE TO DRESS FOR ME ,EVERYONE IS DIFFERRENT *
I buy t shirts at Goodwill for $2.99 I wear them for gardening, cleaning, walking the dog and if they are cute I wear them for shopping or running errands. I prefer 100% cotton clothing because I live in a hot climate but I don’t think these are written in stone. I love vintage but at my age I can’t do an entire outfit I take one piece and mix it. Find your own style. I thought the 83 year old looked awful in that off the shoulder top and spiky awful brown hair style but if she feels good and it makes her confident then more power to her. It’s all about how you feel about yourself in what you’re wearing.
yes, certain age appropriate is real, certain is not. if this makeup artist is slim and wants to dress like that, go for it, perhaps she can pull it off. However I think someone could do her makeup and the other trick when you go on zoom and interview land, get yourself a ring light to light your face... especially now when we are over 60.. god bless all
Please also spare us the short shorts, dyed unkempt hair with split ends, and halter tops. That goes for women of any age. I would put GoGo boots and flashing lot of skin sporting fading tattoos in the NoGo category as well. It screams TACKY. It really does. It screams I WILL DO ANYTHING TO BE NOTICED. Hey!!!! Over HERE....!!!! Look at ME! I disagree about keeping up with and following so called fashion trends. A lot of them are in very poor taste, cheaply made and not classy at all. In some cases, actually harmful: Stilettos and platforms seriously unsafe and not advisable. Lots of falls and orthopedic injury out there not worth the risk. These throw your center of balance off, cause falls, aggravate bunions, and other foot issues. Dorie may be one in a million who may be able to pull off wearing this sort of foot gear without adverse side effects. But not so and not advisable in general for masses of women. Dont fall for marketing scams! If you still have no idea who you are, and what you feel comfortable in by the age of 60 or at the very latest, 70, you must be a very late bloomer indeed! A 76 year old woman may indeed need to get rid of the canvas slides and polyester housedresses she has defaulted to in the midst of a lack of a sense of her own style. After all this time, do we really need to ask permission to be who we are? Lol.
I decided a very long time ago …in fact, right after college….. that I will refuse to wear clothes with writing on them….. no matter how much I agree with the inscription! I don’t even like logos. “World’s Greatest Grandma” …. No!
Thank you for the heart comment. Be blessed. I always use dresses. Most of them is made by my dressmaker. I use much batik. But i barely use pabts. More skirts and blouses. Enjoyed the show.
Sometimes I feel classy. Other times I feel like wearing leggings an oversized top etc. ….. I stopped dressing for others years ago. I’m always getting compliments. Be you know as long as it makes you happy!!
Tshirts from concerts or vacations, throw away? Oh hell no. You lost me from hello. And then onto those red high heels. Sorry but there comes an age or time they are no safe to wear. At 80, everyone had to protect yourself from falls or injuries. Let’s be real here.
I have psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis on my feet. While I loved wearing my high heels...I’m now retired and rarely have dressy events. I have medium heels but most days I’m in casual shoes or sneakers.
I freaking LOVE Dorrie! I follow her on Instagram and when I saw this video I got all fangirl! I'm nearing 64 and I agree with her. My closet is filled only with the clothing I wear and when the winter is over and the warm weather rolls in, I empty the closet, pack the cold-weather clothing away and replace with the summer clothing. Dorrie rocks!!!!!!
I think Iris Apfel every time and so it helps me to be brave. I find my clothes fun now. Being older i now dress for fun and if people don't like it...who cares
I am almost 78 yrs old and agree that you can wear anything that looks well on you. If you have the figure for those skinny jeans by all means wear them. Same goes for short skirts and high heels. If you can walk in those heels wear them. They make your legs look great.

Very smart lady at 83. I admire her positive outlook. Very clear thinking . I have great ideas after hearing her. Now I plan to reorganize my closet. Thanks to the organizer. I will see more videos of you soon.
Getting older means not caring what other people think!!! You do you!!! People who matter don't mind and people who mind don't matter!!!!! ✌️ You never see men worrying about what they wear or how they look because they don't care what other people think!!
Not necessarily so, I know quite a few men who are obsessed with their looks as much as women. I think the older generation of men never wore a suit because they were the blue collar workers, and never had a needed to. The new generation of men do care about how they look.
@@edennis8578 seems you wholly misunderstood. It’s about rocking yourself the way you want to present yourself...NOT presenting to appeal to certain others. It’s not caring that someone says “you shouldn’t wear this because you’re too ‘xyz’ to wear such and such” It’s ignoring the conditionings of society and doing what you want. It’s owning your presentation that you chose, no one else.
This woman has incredible style, I've checked her website and her fashion sense is fantastic and whilst it is super stylish and attractive it is also age appropriate. There is nothing on her site that you think only belongs on a 20 or 30 something, but a 20 or 30 something could definitely wear it! No dowdy or frumpy clothing, wish more women over 60 dressed this way.
The main thing that keeps women being able to dress in a more youthful way is staying thin as they age. When women begin to gain weight and start to show the post menopausal body type, the clothing choices become very limited. Try going into any plus size department and take a look around. It looks like you are shopping for table clothes with all the flowers, checks and patterns and the huge amounts of material. Chic is not a word that comes to mind. So, I guess I have my work cut out for me. I look at my closet and there is nothing in it that reflects who I am. I always loved body conscious clothes that had a clean straight line and dressing in a classic style with lots of scarves, accessories and belts. Even my coats were fitted. Now I wear tents and it is not fun. I feel like I am dressing a bowling ball. So, ladies...my tip is, Stay Thin! Then you can wear anything you want and feel good about it.
Haha! I’ve always been at least 60 lbs overweight (since 6th grade or 10 years old) and look great. You have to go to shops that carry current fashions and try clothes on and look at yourself at all angles in the mirror. Try everything on and find what looks great. I’m 58 and 5’10 at 225 lbs. Don’t settle for something that makes you look frumpy. You can look and feel great, too.
Me? I'm a plus size lady, age 59, but I shop at trendy plus size stores like Torrid (which is geared toward 20-somethings). Wouldn't be caught dead in Lane Byrant. I may be a grandma but doesn't mean i have to dress like one lol
I'm 68 and dress casual classy rarely dress up in heels and evening wear. The wedge shoe is great and comfortable. I'm getting away from the pancake flat no support for my feet. I'm loving this time of my life what a beautiful freedom.
I agree pancake flat is not cool. looks terrible and is really for 10 year olds in my opinion. We older folks need a base on our shoe.. there are so many choices and running shoes are so splendid, colorful and really are simple additives to a pant suit for example. simplify and I suggest no patterns on the main outfit, add sparkle with jewelry, great hair and makeup..
@@philipandrew2835 , I have been just taking it easy because of the COVID-19 but this weekend it has been cold from Canada all the way to Mexico and worst we don’t have electricity. But I know this won’t last. And you?
i think its interesting to be open and take whatever anyone finds useful if people are willing to share.... Its a beautiful thing to appreciate everybody's difference and just love that difference...
I'm 71 (as of this weekend) and dress the way I always have. I'm quite fair, black has always washed me out so I've never worn it. White is too harsh. Soft medium colors, heathered maybe. Cream. Scarves. No jewelry. Basic simple clothes whether fitted or draping. Jeans. Ballet flats or very low heels. Hair short and never colored. Makeup very natural.
I have decided that rule number one as I age is to not try so hard to look young and fashionable. I have noticed that women who try too hard often look older and rather desperate than if they would just relax and go more natural. I do not want to look overdone when I am old. Too much make up and a gal can look cartoonish, which is not how to age gracefully.
I decided to grow old gracefully with elegant and classic clothing, having worked primarily with men and hearing the comments they made over the years about "mutton dressed as lamb". I also decided to treat men who are twenty years younger than me as "sons" and not act like these daft women who think they look twenty year younger than they are (they never do) and therefore assume the younger men are interested in them.
One wonderful thing about me being 69, I wear what pleases me. I think she looks like a person who doesn’t embrace her age. Spike hair and a top she needs to pull up. At this age she should be an example of modesty to her great grandkids. She can keep her advice and I will keep my common sense.
We do not owe our "great grandkids" or anyone else. Modesty! If you can carry your look off, you should please yourself, not a man or grandkids, etc. Definitely do your own thing and be your own person.
She's right about losing your self-confidence. I went to a new hair dresser & "accidentally" got a lighter "do." Took me a few days to get used to it, but it truly made me smile again & brought back a bit of "I can do this!"
I'm 81 and yes I have a stylish haircut and I wear what I'm comfortable in. I have alot of compliments when I go out and yes I'm taken for alot younger age , I love it. I have even been asked to see my id
I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but I'm over 70 and my high school granddaughter is always over here borrowing my clothes. She especially loves my blouses.
I haven’t been able to wear heels since I had my knee surgery earlier this year. I’ve been slowly trying to get back into them again.... slowly but surely I will get there again.
My bad knee caused me to have to give up all my beautiful heels. Good till 70 yrs., but by 77 yrs my bad knee forced me to go to flats only. Broke my heart.💔💔🖤🖤
Wear whatever you want, especially if you think it looks good on you. Keep all you want but put it away for when you need it. I have been poor and have given clothes away and when I need them, they are not there. And by the way, what a beautiful 83 year old. My mom is 91 and her face looks great.
I been getting rid of so much clothes n still have so many n I'm finding things I haven't seen in yrs I still keep buying I love it n always get compliments
Wow. 83...she’s lovely.. I’ve always thought that lighter colors, hair color, clothing and make up,..works better on the older face....I think everything should lean towards softness...but that’s just my opinion...on the other hand..if you can carry off this edgy look at 80 then go for it...I sure agree about the velour pants suit...
I don't necessarily agree with the velour. If it is black you can dress it up with great shoes and jewellery. I was just yesterday looking at long black velour skirt. Although a pants suit would be too much. Just pants would work.
Dorrie has a wonderful sense of self and style for her lifestyle. Loved those bold necklaces. It’s so easy to get in a rut as we get older (68) and our lifestyle changes...along with our body. About 2 months ago I got a hair brained idea to try on almost all the clothes in my “daily” closet to see what still fit (!) or just felt eh. So I prettied up and went for it. It was, not surprising, to be half uplifting and half depressing. Good cleansing. Except for when I was working and in suits, I’ve always been the casual lifestyle type with t-shirts and skinny pants or slacks. Perhaps more like you, Margaret. The outcome is that I decided to look for new updated bold necklaces, earrings, scarves and jackets to compliment my casual look. I think it’s great to be reminded every now and then to tweek things. Oh, another tweek is replacing existing t-shirts with 3/4 sleeve style which are a little more flattering and dressy for my more mature arms😀. Also new bras. No sagging girls. I’ll never be a flaring standout but I don’t want to be invisible either.
Love this except for the heels. (Full disclosure, I'm a 72 yr old RN). Heels are indesputably bad for our backs & feet, whether or not you're able to safely walk in them. The time of heels is over; free yourself from this social dictate & take care of yourself in pretty flats .
I absolutely love stilettos! After 20 falls over the last two years….can’t do it! But I’ll always wish I could!! I’m fortunate to be here at 61! My mom passed at 52! So I’ll enjoy others looking cute!
I've got rid of every stitch of clothes that does not fit after I lost 60# on Keto. I was stunned to lose 5 sizes of clothes. Needless to say, there's not a lot in there anymore. No matter, it is what I want to wear. I have a sort of uniform I wear most days which I change up with accessories and nice shoes and boots. My motto these days is if it doesn't fit or style the way I want it to...its going away.
LynAnne Moon Congrats on your loss I lost 60 pounds 4 years ago on a low carb diet. I got rid of my large clothes..but I have gained back 45 😩 I’m hoping to do drop at least 20 so I can fit in some of them...
I am a photographer, and I keep things that I can dress up my models in. However I think it was a metaphor... out of site out of mind... If it makes you feel bad to look at it, perhaps give it away or put it away. Nothing is absolute, its all apart of your choices now. You have earned that decision just by being here now.
Keep your skinny jeans & add 1 pair of crop jeans & a pair of jeans that you roll up a couple of turns on the bottom..so many Styles of jeans..Take a chance on different ones..Look up Talbots store for idea* I shop there because they carry regular & Petite sizes. Always a sale going on too.. .
I just found your channel a few weeks ago and am loving it! In your cleansing routine, do you use a toner? I’m using a hydrating toner now, but I’m not sure how much benefit I’m getting. I am closer to 70 than 60, and I’ve just embraced a very good skin care regimen (finally, huh?). Thank you for showing me how a 60-something woman can look great!
Dog lover makes a great point. Different lifestyles require different clothes. Still we can take and make time to put on a little make up, get a good hair cut for you, and buy something new each season - a shirt, jacket, belt, piece of jewelry, a nice fragrance of body cream. Small things make a difference. Above all, keep moving and stretching your brain and body. I’m 74 and creating a life I enjoy and part of that enjoyment is liking what I see. Yes, this is a current photo taken Christmas season 2020.
It was fun seeing some of our '70s styles come back in the '90s. I'll never forget when I saw that commercial, "You've got to get this look", I cracked up and told the tv that I already had that look! So, my daughter and I dressed alike in tbe '90s and early '2000s.
Wonderful watching. Very inspirational spirit uplifting and encourage to be who I am and be comfortable and happy with. Thank you. Best wishes for 2021.
I have an Issy Miyake “Pleats please” dress that I wore to my daughter's wedding 10 years ago. The reason I don’t want to get rid of it is because it cost $800. And it is still available, but in a different colour. It truly is very unusual. The only reason I don’t wear is that I never go to the right type of events. Should I get rid of it? I tried to sell it on eBay, but there was no interest.
Lesley McNeill of you take donations off on your taxes, you could probably list it at 300 and deduct it from your taxes. Or you could try and sell them in a high end consignment store. If that doesn't work, and you can't part with it pack it up like you would a wedding dress and save it, it holds many happy memories.
I don't know if this will help but I had a beautiful silk rayon dress that had a few issues. I shortened it ,paired it with thongs and wore it to the grocery store. I always felt like I was on my way to a garden party. Everyone else thought I was going somewhere special too. loved it. Made me feel special.
Thanks very much for this video. She looks fabulous for her age and those shoes, WOWWWWWW. I have knee issues so I wear more wedges and lower heels. I'll have to start adapting to her ideas. Love her.
Hey Margaret Great interview and reminder as to what to eliminate. Looking at you I would say you look best in autumn colours so when you wear those colours and eye shadow in those tones you glow and look radiant! Like in the video about loving weight! Lot of love to you!

Influencers gotta influence while probably getting paid a stipend by the fashion industry corporations out of China looking to increase their market share
And the so-called experts all disagree anyway.
Wear what makes you comfortable, whether people like it or not... we're too old for fashion shows, girls!

Wearing the colors that are best for my skin tone usually makes me look my best! I am 66 and love jeans, dress them up dress down, but look my best even at home. Not about trying to look younger but being me and no one else! Thank you!
I selling cars in Lss Vegas. I was talking to a woman. I complimented a lady
I said she looked great. I said you look great, I love the way you are dressed. She was 85. She told me she gets everything at Savers. A thrift store in Las Vegas. I give the girls a couple bucks to tell me when the good stuff comes in. Sense of humor and style.
thrift stores are the bomb. I'm a sr..
Wear whatever you want it's your life 😉
Dede Dinah - Yes! 67 Forever in blue jeans!
True, but it's better to look put together as you age and not silly for trying to hard to look young
Amen sister
Amen
I pulled everything out of my closet
Had 3 boxes- #1. Keep since item fits
#2 donate still wearable but does not fit today
#3 toss -faded worn out etc
Among the keep there were some items that were 1 size too small which I put in boxes according to season
so when next season comes ex winter I will pull this box down in November and see if anything fits before I go shopping
Dorrie and Debbie are right
“Only have clothing in closet that you actually wear “

She looks very elegant and confident.

yes, certain age appropriate is real, certain is not. if this makeup artist is slim and wants to dress like that, go for it, perhaps she can pull it off. However I think someone could do her makeup and the other trick when you go on zoom and interview land, get yourself a ring light to light your face... especially now when we are over 60.. god bless all

Hello Mary
keep on rockin' You probably look great because you feel great 😊😊😊
Please also spare us the short shorts, dyed unkempt hair with split ends, and halter tops.
Lol.
I agree, and I'll never give up my ripped, faded jeans, either.
I decided a very long time ago …in fact, right after college….. that I will refuse to wear clothes with writing on them….. no matter how much I agree with the inscription! I don’t even like logos. “World’s Greatest Grandma” …. No!
Super advice! I love the advice to remove the clothes from the closet, not necessarily get rid of them.
Best advice EVER! YOUR CLOSET SHOULD HAVE CLOTHES THAT YOU ACTUALLY WEAR...EVERYTHING ELSE PACKED AWAY!!!
Hello Barbara
I have several tops, same style, different colors, some medium, some large in my closet. Boxing up the mediums until I lose that new 10 pounds again.
Packed away so our kids have to deal with them when Jesus calls? Na, I get rid of mine regularly.

Tshirts from concerts or vacations, throw away? Oh hell no. You lost me from hello. And then onto those red high heels. Sorry but there comes an age or time they are no safe to wear. At 80, everyone had to protect yourself from falls or injuries. Let’s be real here.
I commend this woman for owning her style. However, I’d never wear any of that.
She is saying wear red shoes, have fun. What heel height is up to you.

Getting older means not caring what other people think!!! You do you!!! People who matter don't mind and people who mind don't matter!!!!! ✌️
You never see men worrying about what they wear or how they look because they don't care what other people think!!
Not necessarily so, I know quite a few men who are obsessed with their looks as much as women. I think the older generation of men never wore a suit because they were the blue collar workers, and never had a needed to. The new generation of men do care about how they look.
If you don't care about how you present yourself to the world, why are you here? Just trolling?
@@edennis8578 seems you wholly misunderstood.
It’s about rocking yourself the way you want to present yourself...NOT presenting to appeal to certain others. It’s not caring that someone says “you shouldn’t wear this because you’re too ‘xyz’ to wear such and such”
It’s ignoring the conditionings of society and doing what you want. It’s owning your presentation that you chose, no one else.
Then why bother watching the v ideo? Why are you here?
Then you can wear anything you want and feel good about it.
kdmil2002 yep. It’s easy to look frumpy with a few extra ponds!
Keto is helping me...

The blonde ish lady needs some color to match her cute personality ? 💗
If you know you will never wear something again give it to charity, someone less fortunate , rather than allow it to deteriorate in a closet

i think its interesting to be open and take whatever anyone finds useful if people are willing to share....
Why let go of clothes which you like. Styles change. What goes around comes around. I dress to suit me, not some so called expert.
I feel like some of these older women try so hard to dress "young" & ultra trendy just end up calling more attention to their age.
😊
As long as I like it and it's comfy and it fits me and it doesn't make me look tacky - it stays in my wardrobe :)
@@poppyflower7873 your opinion.

I’ll always wear my concert tees
Hello Jeanette
Love this except for the heels. (Full disclosure, I'm a 72 yr old RN). Heels are indesputably bad for our backs & feet, whether or not you're able to safely walk in them. The time of heels is over; free yourself from this social dictate & take care of yourself in pretty flats .
Loved this video. Also love your "turned under" hairstyle. Will have to go through my closet soon and will use this good advice

Congratulations!

I would keep it. You never know any other events. Or organize events for that. Party, etc...
