How to make perf cut/die cut stickers with HP Latex (summa)

  • Hey print fam. Today I walk you through my steps when setting up a perf cut on my hp cutter (summa d) after I printed the stickers using my HP Latex printer. These steps are used to make perf cut (most people call them die cut) stickers. This is a great way to provide individually cut stickers. I've found that straight lines are better, but you can do curves, it just takes longer and doesn't always look as good. Let me know if you have any questions about perf cut or die cut stickers.

    Love the video! Very helpful. Just wondering where you find the XML for the various cuts. I don't have the option to select "Self-Adhesive Vinyl Cut Through". I'm having troubles getting a perf-cut, regardless of what option I click in the Job Properties for the "Before Job" type of cut.

    is there any setting when doing perf cuts that can smooth out the corners so its a cleaner and easier cut for the cutter

  • @swp466
    @swp466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Darron -- one thing I've started doing which helps with blade wear is after I lay out my matrix of stickers, I draw another contour cut rectangle around the entire field for an overall kiss cut. When I send the job, I pause the cut through so once the kiss cut is finished, I can peel the entire matrix off of the sheet. This does two things -- it makes for a finished sticker with a clean border (with no vinyl) making peeling easier, plus it allows for lower blade force when I do my cut through (because the blade only needs to go through the liner and not the vinyl also), and helps the blade last longer. I used to do a full cut through and then manually peel the border off of each sticker (it's cleaner and neater for the end user that way), but peeling the entire matrix with the extra contour cut while the material is still on the cutter, and before the cut through really speeds up the process.

    • @ttms
      @ttms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good idea. I'll have to try that. I remove the matrix for some customers and this would make it so much faster. I'd almost rather send the design through twice and just turn the perf off the first time and the contour off the second. That way it realigns itself.

    was looking at your videos trying to find a particular thing regarding the flexcut , my problem was :
    i have to cut a specific vynyil made for letter cutting and i would've like to try and cut the interiors of the letters so i won't have to remove them manually , thing is i don't know the up's and down's of the problem , maybe if you ever experimented this particular thing i would like to know if you succeded cuz from what i tried it didn't really worked well , i wanted the interiors to fall on their own , which didnt really happened as i thought maybe its something about the overcut which tends to enter in the body of the letter and hence the size of the letter they and surface its getting applied they tend to break upon being transfered on the respesctive surface the vynil has to be applied

    Also just ran into a huge tracking issue that I fixed and thought it may be something you want to check with your lack of trust in running more than 2-3 feet. The knurling on the drive rollers was completely clogged with goo. I went from running 30+ feet of material at a time to having go off after about 2ft. Of course that was at 2am, so a quick prayer and deep breath I got to see what was happening. That’s on my 30” T series. Anyway, take a look it’s not that uncommon

      @@ttms I just upgrade to the hp115 print and cut but also got a new 54” summa t series along with the HP branded cutter. My 30” was being worked to death and I need a take up reel in a big way. I’m just hoping the T-series perf cuts as easily as the dc4... I changed the blade on that thing once in the 3 years and 100,000 stickers I’ve run through it. I know you have an issue with the blade life on your HP and the T-series blades are a lot more. I didn’t necessarily want the HP cutter but the only printer I could get my hands on right now was a demo unit and that had to be sold as a set. So, going from one 30” summa T series to 3 cutters my huge shop in the basement just got cramped 😂

    • @ttms
      @ttms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to use scraps, the best thing to do is attach it to another roll. The machine has sensors and the curing unit so you need a good amount of space. To me it's not worth it. The media is cheap and my time is more valuable than trying to save $4 or less of media.
