    Sometimes no matter what tests u have done, this condition can go undetected. Friend had a baby boy she was only 32 and had all the pre natal tests done, as she had a few distant cousins with Downs syndrome. All the tests were apparently clear, but as soon as the baby was born it was obvious he had this syndrome, which was a huge shock for the family. Just be aware... tests are not always reliable

    what is it about the extra chromosome stunts the development? I get that it’s an extra “genetic package” as they put it. But do we know why that causes the deformities?

    • @MedBoard
      @MedBoard  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The answer to this question is complex and to properly understand it you might have to understand the concept of gene expression.
      In simple words we can say that because chromosomes contain genes that encode proteins, cells with an extra copy of a chromosome also wind up with extra proteins that affect their function-and possibly that of the whole organism. In case of of down syndrome, we have extra copy of chromosome 21. Since chromose 21 is responsible for development of body, an extra copy of chromosome 21 interferes with normal body development and cognitive functions.

    Physical differences don't account for the need of special education. Developmental delay is a result of insufficient attachment (rejection) from the primary attachment figure, same as in autism (which is caused by postpartum psychosis otherwise known as a wish for the child to become "unborn"). Not seeing or not hearing is the result of being left in the quiet dark. White spots on the iris from inadequate exposure to daylight in the postnatal period.
    There will never be a prenatal screen for autism, but as there are several for down syndrome it seems to me the parents who neglect the test have their nerve but inevitably neglect the kid. Bet they sleep on their stomachs too right? Did that until hernia surgery in my 40s broke me of it. It's a defensive posture against a scowling or menacing mother and highly predictive of asphyxiation by SIDS. 4:1 male to female because psychotic individuals see others as extensions of themselves, so disturbed mothers have more trouble seeing sons as Mini-Mes.

    • @buitefr1
      @buitefr1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @REGjr let me be polite here. Neither is true. Develomental delay is NOT the RESULT of insufficient attachment of postpartum psychosis of the mother, denial or whatever. The syndrome or disorder is already there at birth. Autism isn't caused by 'cold' mothers as they were thinking in the 50's.
      Families with a special care baby may need help with raising their baby and adapt. Later on in life these children still need extra care.
      The only thing I agree with is that emotional and physical neglect to babies and young children is that it has a severe negative impact on their development (as is shown in f.e. the research on the wellbeing of children in residentional care c.q. orphages). In short: don't mix cause and result. It doesn't do justice to all parents with special children to do all they can to raise them to their full potentional.

      I think there must be another video on this. But in general: have your children as soon as is good for you. Chances of getting a child with this disorder are increasing with age.
