My biggest challenge atm is to keep playing and not get attached to any of it too early.
I think we all face that at times!
Your videos hold so much value in such a short time period - easily digestible bite-sized art lessons , thank you!
Glad you like them!
I just discovered you, and oh am I thankful! You have helped me unleash something in me. I never knew the process of abstract was to just play until it comes together! Brilliant watching you work 🥰
You are so sweet to share with us all your wonderful knowledge.
Aww thank you Pamela. ❤
Thank you so much for talking through your process. It was immensely helpful.

I’m always getting attached too early so this was super helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
YOU HAVE JUST TAUGHT ME MORE IN THIS VIDEO THAN I DON'T KNOW WHEN! The contrast, too much the same marks or "bitty" as you put it, contrast colors, warm and cold, etc etc etc. I have a couple paintings I can't figure out and now i think i can maybe try something using your advice. Thanks so much!
You are so welcome x
Louise, you are getting better and better, you come straight to the point!
Aww thank you!
I love your demos... you are so BRAVE! I am trying really hard to be braver!
Awww thank you Sara. I don't always feel brave so I appreciate that! 😄
"Nothing is sacred." You really put it out there. Wow, So much to learn. Amazing stuff. Thank you

I always love to watch you paint. This one especially spoke to me, about little bits. Thanks for all you share and do. ❤
I'm so glad this helped x
I love your demos and reminders. I will look for contrasts specifically when I get back to my paintings I'm working on.
Wonderful!
Love watching you work your magic. Never disappointed in your paintings and I always come away with a new idea or two. Thank you for sharing. ❤
You are so welcome
Great reminder video, super demo! Thanks, Louise!
Merci beaucoup pour tous vos partages. J'ai enfin compris ce qui ne me plaisait pas dans certaines de mes peintures : le manque de contraste et trop de petites choses. Encore un grand merci. J'adore vos peintures ❤
Thank you Louise. It helps 💕
You’re welcome 😊
Love this Louise! Thank you!
I love this now,but I loved it at different stages too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts…so helpful and especially for me as you talked about the bitty parts. I can so relate!
Glad it was helpful!
Omg “bitty”, exactly, it was like a bullet to my brain, that is why that one over there in the corner starring back at me isn’t working! Contrast with balance and scale, yes. Your video actually helped me. Thank you.
I'm so pleased!
once again, when I've been fighting with my art all day, you have inspired me to keep trying and have given me new tools to improve. thank you!🥰
Glad I could help 😄
Excellent timing! I'm almost done with 3 little paintings, and was wondering what to try next ❤
Glad I could be of assistance 😍
Thanks Louise!
You're so welcome!
This was really timely and beneficial for me as I have a painting right now that I'm finding too "bitsy" and don't/didn't know how to resolve it. Thank you, as always.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, Louise.
You are so welcome!
You explained that so well and it really helped to see you painting and explaining! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Dottiee!
Thank you for the reminder of looking to contrast in our work. I love watching you actually do/paint what you are teaching. It sticks in my mind that way. Thank you always for these instructional videos, Louise!
Louise, your knowledge and explanations are so helpful and really transform how I look at things. I needed this video when I was working on my last piece but you’ve inspired me to keep going!
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad you think so! 😄
Thank you...I always want 'perfect.' HARD TO DO! Watching you has given me permission to just keep going. I held my breath as you got to the upper mid section that looks like clouds. Smudged with your fingers.. beautuful!
I look at different artist and see how they do their art. It gives me ideas to add to my own style. That’s all folks!🙏👑♥️
Glad I could provide even just a little bit of insight! ❤
Thank you Louise, you keep me on task with your input. I appreciate your time!!❤
You are so welcome

My pleasure!
Loved watching your process it’s very inspirational, thank you! ❤️
So glad you liked it. Thanks for being here ❤
I love your work. You were one of the first people I found when getting back into art after college in the late 60's. I try to translate all of it because I prefer working with soft pastels.
Oh wow. What a compliment then that you still watch! Thank you for being here. ❤
I just posted a few of my abstract pastel paintings on your FB page from a post that was about 4 years ago when you asked for comments. Better late than never. :)@@ThisPaintingLife
So much appreciation for your tutorials, Louise. Informed analysis is something I struggle to keep under control so it helped to see you trusting your process - to great results, I must say.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
WONDERFUL ❤❤❤
Thank you Heather!
So full of helpful info, thank you! And btw, that wall full of color behind you is beautiful!

Thank you so much, Louise! You are such a great artist and teacher. I have learned so much from you. ♥️♥️
You are so welcome!
I love how you explained and demonstrated the concept of contrast. I’ll be thinking about this in my work. Thanks so much! 😍
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. 😀
I actually approach my paintings in a very similar way, and it does take quite a bit of time to find my way, but do enjoy the process, and I trust it, which always gets me though the muddle and frustrating moments.
Glad to hear I am not alone 😍
Thanks Louise this video is just what i needed to see and hear. You are one of my favourite artist on youtube...always so interesting and well explained.🙂👍👍👍
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you. I’m learning a lot from you I.e. contrasts. How vital they are to a painting.
You are so welcome and always happy to help 😄
Very helpful video. I like your process. It seems you are always asking yourself questions - what's next?
Yes exactly!
Love your kind guidance. Thank you.
You are so welcome
So helpful! Thank you, Louise! 5:01
So glad! ❤
This was super helpful.
Glad you think so!
I am working on my first abstract I keep adding and subtracting, not sure if finished lol
Some time its a give and take 😀
So fabulous as always! I often get attached to a color or a mark and then have WAY too much going on. Was this done with a limited palette? I know your color mixing is magical--so wondering if you were keeping it "simple" or if you just grabbed what moved you?
Mostly limited palette but sometimes I add something extra x
What is it?
A painting
I'm very confused about warm and cool!
It's all about the base color. ❤
Hi Patty. It might help to think of red, yellow, orange as fire, and blue as ice. That’s just a start as other colours are a bit more complicated. For example green is generally considered to be a mix of blue (cool) and yellow (warm). Whether a green is cool or warm therefore depends on which colour is dominant in the mix. It’s the same with purple, generally a mix of red (warm) and cool (blue). Which colour is dominant? Of course it gets much more nuanced than this! There are warm and cool reds, warm and cool yellows, warm and cool blues, depending on the pigments in the mix, which is why artists often have all of these in their basic palette. If you mix a warm red with a warm yellow you will get the brightest orange. On the other hand, if you mix a warm red with a cool yellow you will get a subdued orange because now you have red and yellow and blue in the mix and they tend to tone each other down. This is just a very basic explanation but I hope it helps. There are some good books which explain this well. Betty Edwards’s book on colour is good but you might also like to watch Mark Eanes’ you tube videos on colour.
Thank you Louise for another great video!
@@cherylreid5768 Wow! Thank you soooooo much. Will follow your advice. Means a lot to me that you responded!❤️
