    If you've ever rented a place, you're probably familiar with those infamous vertical blinds, commonly found in rental homes. Over the years, we've done a bunch of makeovers that have preexisting vertical blinds, often resorting to either replacing these blinds entirely or finding creative ways to conceal them in order to enhance the overall aesthetic of the room.
    However, when I recently moved into my new house, something unexpected happened…I think I'm going to keep mine. So in this video, we are going to brainstorm and DIY our way through a variety of solutions so we can learn to love our vertical blinds again.

    To me vertical blinds are not dated but rather office-ish. They look ok in Becky’s house since the room is so big and tall but the best addition are the curtains, it looks much better with them.

    I used to live in a rental apartment and was stuck with those drab, beige vertical blinds. I used removable wallpaper to cover each panel and it looked amazing (even the landlord was impressed!). When it came time to move, I just removed the wallpaper.

      @jewelofwisdom8279 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very creative solution - Do you have a place where the blinds can be seen, you may have solved my problem? Also a link to the wallpaper company, please?

    • @AscensionDreamer
      @AscensionDreamer ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@jewelofwisdom8279 (I'd replied to this earlier but I think it was removed because I included an external link...) I don't have any photos unfortunately but I purchased the wallpaper from Roommates (based in Canada). The pattern I chose was "Making Waves" in blue.
      If you do choose a patterned wallpaper, be sure to match the patterns so it looks good when the blinds are closed. It's a bit of a tedious process but worth it. I chose that particular pattern because I felt it would be more forgiving if I wasn't able to match the pattern exactly.

    Quick tip: Unhook the last ring of the curtain at the end, skip the hook that holds the curtain rod and then hook again. That way the curtain stays in place and you wouldn't never worry of the curtain going too far when you slide the curtains shut. That way you can also hide the connectors et al.

    They always provide a spare panel, even when you buy them pre sized. Usually, the side pieces of the valance will also accept a panel. The green was blocking out more light, and it was also weighing the room. So yes, the colour makes a big difference. Raising them was a stellar idea, and the lighting is just next level. Nothing less is expected here! 😀

    My solution for plain plastic vertical blinds was to cover them with a nice fabric. I made fabric tubes, slid the vanes in, glued at the top and bottom, and made them look like drapes. But I still had the advantages of the blinds that I needed. I had hundreds of fabrics to select from, rather than just the options at the blind store. It was a bit of work but I really loved the look.

    The curtain rod brackets (10:16) work so well. I discovered them a few months ago, and having curtains over the blinds make a world of difference in the look of my apartment and I have more control over how much light comes in at any given point of the day. So inexpensive and effective!

  • @meganharper6566
    @meganharper6566 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I once rented an apartment with terrible, brittle and yellowing vertical blinds. We were not allowed to put holes in the walls, so I replaced the brittle plastic with curtain panels, using the vertical panel clips and when it came time to move out, the landlord loved the curtains so much they told me it was okay to not put the panels back up. If only I had known! Those suckers were awkward to store and took up a considerable amount of room in the closet, and I was always worried they were going to break. 😅
    Edited to add that Becky nailed it - looks sooooo gooood!!❤

    I realized the benefits of vertical blind tracks when I tried to replace with a curtain rod and realized if the door or window is super wide, it is really expensive to find a curtain rod that is similar to a vertical blind track where it can be all pushed to one side or the other (which you need for sliding glass doors). So as a lazy way, I just used the vertical blind tracks as a temp situation and uhhh they are still there.....(I used clips to clip the curtains onto blind tracks).

    You can also mix fabric medium with water based paint in the colour of your choice to paint the original ones if you can’t afford a whole new set! And skip the fabric medium if you have the plastic coated material ones ! Works best using a roller for it.❤ I got my room made over for my birthday when I turned 16 and the blinds were green and we painted them the same colour as the wall. I’m 25 now and they still look exactly like the day we painted them

    omg those curtain brackets are just what I needed!! I have commando hooks holding a dollar store curtain rod for a small window just so I can have cute lace curtains covering the plain white vertical blinds. this is a rental and I wouldn't wanna go through the effort of changing out the blinds even for cuter vertical blinds let alone switching them out for a curtain rod when we're probably not staying here for more than a few years, so I'd rather just put curtains over top. curtain brackets sound SO much better than my solution lol, I have to get those!!
    I will admit the green blinds in that space was a total vibe but they did absolutely make the space look darker, so I think you made the right choice :)

    Becky is gorgeous!!! She really understands how to dress her body type. I have a similar shape and always felt frumpy. I need to pay attention to her outfits for inspiration

    Squiggly or zigzaggy blind panels could be a good way to make it a fresh 70s take!
    You’d have to choose a material that’s slightly studier to hold the shape at the edges, depending on the depth of the waves, and maybe calculate them so the overlap isn’t funky, but I think it could be a cool subtle statement
