Thanks for sharing Elissa, I always laugh at how spinach disappears into nothing however you cook or preserve it. Hope you are keeping well. Take care xx Cathi xx
Little Garden Big Dreams hello Cathi, dehydrated spinach is definitely a space saver 😂 All is well up here and I hope you are going well too, I know you’re busy keeping this country functioning, so a big thank you to you for that. 😊
Hello Edie Boudreau, it was a very quick appearance last week, I thought we should have more time in lock down, especially to make videos.... but Autumn jobs are keeping me busy and I haven’t even turned the tv on in months. 😂
@@MoatCottage yes ma'am. Started a small daily walk today. 2x around the house. Of course...that means carrying my empty cut into an easy carry gather bucket from plastic distilled water jug. And branch trimmers/mini loppers/clippers. Took an hour & 1/2. But did some trimming each go around. Some harvesting as well. Included a stop to tidy up an area. A grab of a bamboo stick to put for a new grapevine to grow up. And training 2 more young grapevines along the neighbors mesh fence along side of my front yard. Also noting what I can do for tomorrow while I walk. Also repositioned 4 firebricks. I will be spray painting the flat tops flat black. Then I'll be using it for putting my cast iron spidered dutch oven on to "solar" cook my meal on 80*f(+) days. Got to use what ABBA YHWH bestows upon us. Right?!!
@@MoatCottage understood. Here we have an actual spring for first time in more than 20 years. Thoroughly enjoying it but it's a bit more demanding. Lol.
Thanks for sharing, great idea. I will have to give it a try once our spinach starts growing. Do you think it would be possible to do this at a low temperature in the oven?
Silverbeet has a moderate level of oxalates and if you want to reduce these, then cook the leaves in water as this process will leach out the oxalates.
Hi Natasha Willis, I add it to stews and casseroles when I don’t have fresh, it’s delicious but remember it’s concentrated so go easy. I also sprinkle it on my homemade pizzas.
Moat Cottage Homesteading Thank you very much, I am going to give it a try next, at the moment my dehydrator is full with rose petals and calendula flowers.
Hi Lora, I use a nutri bullet but I think both would work fine if you have enough dried leaves in the machine. You could even use a mortar and pestle quite easily.
The oven on its lowest setting and maybe with a wooden spoon propping the door open a little, while dehydrating your spinach, to help it keep its colour and not crisp up too quickly.

Thanks for the visit Ian.
Currently have a glut of spinach so will give this a go. Thanks.
Hi, if I don't have a dehydrator can I use an oven?
Blessings ❤️
Hope you are well Carolyn

If you have a warm setting & prop door slightly open like with a wooden spoon.
Yes, absolutely
Perfect - great tip Edie x

Hi, Elissa, I've read that Spinach is very high in Oxalates. How does one reduce this content?
Silverbeet has a moderate level of oxalates and if you want to reduce these, then cook the leaves in water as this process will leach out the oxalates.
Thank you always informative, would it be good to add to casseroles or stews or would it taste yuck lol

After you blend it do you put it back in the dehydrator to dry again?
No, I blend it when it’s fully dehydrated.
Do you do the same with silverbeet and kale?
Will a food processor do a good job at grinding to a powder? Or is a blender better?
Hi Lora, I use a nutri bullet but I think both would work fine if you have enough dried leaves in the machine. You could even use a mortar and pestle quite easily.
can i put mine in the oven or microwave?
The oven on its lowest setting and maybe with a wooden spoon propping the door open a little, while dehydrating your spinach, to help it keep its colour and not crisp up too quickly.
