I bought a NEW rectangular cat litter pan from Dollar General, Family Dollar or maybe Walmart. (Can't remember which.) Bought an inexpensive one on purpose. Don't need for it to be heavy or bulky in size. I dump the contents from my Excalibur dehydrator trays into it. A plastic bristle scrub brush (shaped like an iron with a handle) helps to remove bits that stick. After filling the pan, I make room in the center of the pan to set a jar or other container. If, applicable use a canning funnel. Use a scoop, coffee mug or hands to fill the jar. Loose bits fall right back into the pan. When almost finished, remove the jar from the pan, then shake the remainder into one corner of the pan. Empty that into the jar.
Keeps most of the mess contained. I use this when transferring bulk rice, beans, etc. into jars to be vacuum sealed. This pan comes in handy for sorting things, shucking corn and more.
Hope this helps you resolve a messy problem. Works for me, FWIW....

I have a suggestion on the "lid" of the vitamix. Use plastic or something similar to line the lid to prevent the food dust from attaching to the lid. You probably will need to use a brush but not as much. Love your channel.

I use a large cookie sheet for emptying the dried veggies into ....and I even use a cookie sheet when I'm cutting vegetables or meat. It makes clean up so much easier.
To keep vegetable pieces in the trays, I cut parchment paper and then I fold the paper circles and paper punch all over. This gives air circulation but keeps the vegetables from dropping through the trays.

I have been dehydrating since I was 10 years old back in the seventies. You probably don't remember the ronco dehydrator but I begged my mother and she got me one. We had the best time and the first thing we did were raisins! They were delicious :-) I think that dehydrator is somewhere in my parents basement but they are all gone and I have sold the family home so I have a big dehydrator here now. I'm going to join a CSA so I will end up with a number of things to dehydrate before they go bad! I will also make and can sauces etc.

I use a pizza pan to dump the circular Nesco.
It is bigger than the Nesco trays, and use with wide parchment paper on top.
Then I can usually funnel into jars using my extra large jar funnel.
Not a perfect system, but my system.

WHAT A GREAT IDEA! I firmly believe you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. AND I loved the little fan-type brush you used to retrieve EVERY SPECK of precious dehydrated green powder!! I found your channel as a result of Mary, over at "Mary's Nest," who so highly recommended you & I'm so glad I followed up on her referral. I've been dehydrating since the late 1970s & still have my first dehydrator, a Ronco, which I ordered after seeing an advertisement on television. When the pandemic arrived & many of us were required to stay home or do self-imposed isolation in the early weeks, I wanted to utilize my time learning new skills, as well as expanding on some well-established & long-time skills. Dehydrating was one of them. I now have three dehydrators & my old Ronco still works, however, I prefer using my newer dehydrators with digital temperature & timer settings.

I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos! Your videos are the reason I started dehydrating. Before I started watching them, I thought dehydrating was only to make jerky or dried fruit - neither of which I like. I've only been dehydrating for a couple of months now, and I'm starting to build up a nice little pantry! Not only that, but I'm able to really take advantage of gluts in the "Reduced for Quick Sale" produce area; red bell peppers are usually a luxury for me since they're so expensive, being able to preserve them when they went reduced means I have lots to cook with!

New sub here. I also have a Nesco and the way I get everything off of the trays is to smoosh the dried foods thru the grates when I can. The base catches everything pretty good and it's easier to dump into containers. I usually dry greens and frozen veggie mixes (corn, carrot, pea, green beans) and individual frozen veg and fruits. Hope this helps someone! Much love from Oklahoma

This is great the only thing is that you have to be mindful of the fact that for example some fruits or vegetables may have vitamin k for example and people that are on blood thinners have to consider that. So it's important not to overdo it it's better to simply have it in the proportion of what you would have normally on a plate

Could place a large salad bowl (or large plate or tray) upside down over the kale tray then turn them right side up. Once in the bowl, empty into another bowl and repeat. Maybe a bit quicker..

Also, using a piece of plastic over the top of the the vitamix/blenders and then putting the lid on helps powder not get up into the lid, saving product, not wasting y'all's hard work , and making clean up easier to

i pour my dried items from dehydrator all into a large plastic bowl... then it is easy to grab handfuls for blender and then pour the bits left in bowl right into your blender... keeps my area clean.

I empty my dried leaves in a clean trash bag. Before I put it in my Vita-Mixer I use my rolling pin and crush the leaves a bit. I use my canning funnel to empty into the Vita-Mixer.

The first batch you put in a container for a few days, the second batch not, or did I miss something?
I can't wait for my greens to grow and do this. Thanks, great video!

So glad I found your channel! You are a wealth of information! I want to learn as much as I can about proper food preservation. Can the spinach powder be stored long term and if so how? Oxy absorber, or desiccant packet? Do you have a video on types of foods for long term storage and how to prepare them for storing and whether to use oxy or dessicant packets? Im having difficulty finding out whether to freeze beans, rice, etc before storing. Do you have info on that? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us 😊

Good stuff. I'm reading a lot of questions from fellow viewers which I'm pretty sure they could answer very easily themselves if they stopped for a moment to consider!
Not hating, just saying c'mon folks you're more than capable of relying on your own sense 😉

My sister and family live in Texas and I will be moving there as soon as my cat has left this world. He didn't do well in this move where I purchased my house so he needs to stay in one place now. But I will be moving to Lufkin one day! :-)

I see that the blender really does powder powder! And I like your tip about leaving things out of it too just cool off in the air. I’ve usually just dumped mine into a glass jar and so far it’s been OK but I think your ideasmore cautionary.

Just started watching, and excited to learn! How do you use the powders? Edit found your website with a list! Can you also use the green powder is just water and drinking? Like how they sell green powder to do that with? Second edit… I was too quick, and see now it says they do not dissolve in water. Haha. Thank you for sharing! Excited to try

I empty my dehydrator trays into a 9”x13” metal baking pan. I then fill my jars or bags by keeping them over the pan so any spills are caught as I-fill them.
