Just for comparison the first hunger games movie earned more than 150 mill in just it's opening weekend worldwide while this massively underperformed with just 94 mill in the opening weekend while everyone expected more much more.Lionsgate is bleeding money on this project.
The female characters in these propaganda pics do not have vulnerabilities. See the Star Wars and Indy Jones reboots, just to name 2 recent examples.

However, I enjoyed the book, and it was the first time my son has read a book before the movie came out- so we went, even though I heard it had bad reviews.
The movie is worth watching. She and the rest of the cast were true to the characters within the book.
Viola Davis role was absolutely fantastic.
I am glad I went. It’s nice to see Hollywood get something right nowadays.
Would recommend it.

Yep, we were excited to see this new movie but as soon as we saw her we wanted nothing to do with Hunger Games. She is box office poison. The problem with most of the studios is to make "meh" films that no one really cares about. Or they make a film that NO ONE asked for to begin with (Indy 5 The Dial of destiny comes to mind). And when these films fail, the studios (and actors like Zegler) begin the blame game: avoid responsibility, protect their reputation, finger-pointing, and denial. It's not hard to come up with an original idea that is also an enjoyable film. Some recent examples IMHO are Knives out and Crazy Rich Asians. The other problem is the obscene amount of money that is green lit for movies. When they factor in the production cost + marketing, a blockbuster usually needs to make usually half a billion dollars to "break even." Thats why these kinds of films are bombing and will continue to do so.
So, none of this is Zeigler's fault? She read the script, and accepted it. Why would you dis your own movie? I agree, they spend too much money, but that's not Rachel's problem. Her job is to promote the movie.

In general your point is correct. It just does not apply to Songbirds and Snakes. It earned its money back in the first 5 days and is #1 at the box office. Lionsgate is very happy and have announced a sequel. They are also in negotiations with Zegler for two future projects. Once again your point is correct, but not with SBAS.

Before the story was made by Disney hundreds of years ago two men put it in writing and before that village storytellers and traveling bards told the tale to anyone.
Zeglar literally was badmouthing history. A story that has many forms in different cultures. No wonder she is being hated by enough people to affect her role as actress.
As for me I didn't want to see Snakes and songbirds cause it was a story about president snow for one thing.
It's actually a story that came from the 30 years war (loosely based on much older, pre-christian lore). The original is a lot less PG.

Folk tales don't have an original version because that's the whole point of them - they come from folklore and are passed down orally tweaked to fit morals that people found important and timeless. I grew up with at least five different versions of the story and none of them was the Brothers Grimm version or the Disney version. Speaking of the Grimms version, the Grimms were already widely known as disturbed people when they started collecting their tales and it's not a secret that they went around collecting the most messed up versions of each story they could find, sometimes adding their own even darker twists on them. Most people did not like their versions around the time period they published them.

At that time oral tradition is dwindling down and the want to prevail the story’s for beeing forgotten. Naturally for oral tradition at that point there are different versions and they combined it. The fairy tales was one of their wide focus. The problems they had was more a result of their political views not well received by the authorities.

I was disappointed to see Rachel would be Lucy. I felt the audiobook was poorly done, so I already felt apathetic towards Lucy, but then having someone like Rachel playing her just made me care even less about seeing the movie. Hunger Games is one of my all time favorite series, so it sucks that I feel disinterested. Now I have to decide if I still wanna sit through such a long movie.
i've seen the movie and honestly not a whole lot happens. she mentioned that in snow white, she doesn't find a lover, she doesn't kiss or anything like that, and its the same in the hunger games. lucy doesn't show any love towards snow, other than the lake scenes where they're in the water together and laying together, there's no on screen chem between the two. it comes across more like snow is just obsessed with the idea of her or what she looks like, and her character realizes this and acts accordingly. personally, the original movies were a lot better because they focused more on the games and the new one focused more on snow being a mentor and obsessing over a girl when there was a lot more i feel could've been done in the movie to have more happen. i didn't read the book yet, it's sitting on my shelf lol so i don't know the book references but i've heard that the book and the movie are very close.
I agree on the audio book. Who thought that dude was right for the job. I hate that all the songs were spoken like a poem, and there were no voice changes for chracters. As for the movie i teetered on the fence, i did go see it though. It was better than expected.
i really enjoyed the movie. it was well worth the watch for me and my family. we read the original books and were exciting for this movie. the actor who played snow did sooo good in his row. Rachel did pretty good, except for her first 5 minutes.
In my opinion, the movie was good, and I enjoyed it a lot. And, I think Rachel played a great Lucy Gray and her voice is beautiful. I understand that Lucy Gray is the "love interest" or main girl lead, but really, the movie focuses more on Snow, which they should because the book is about him. I think I enjoyed it mostly because I was focused on who the main character is, which is Snow, and how he develops as a character throughout the movie. If you're interested in Snow's story and timeline, you might enjoy it. If you're not, then I can't be so sure. But that's my two cents.
I feel some of you need to let go of this stupid grudge over snow white. She brought Lucy to life fully, not only her singing but her acting was perfect for Lucy. We can hate her all we want, but as soon as you start denying she clearly devoured this performance it just comes off.. well weird?? Weird.

Well I'm not too surprised tbh. After all didn't Jennifer Lawrence claim to be the very first female action star in the history of movies ? Completely omitting women who paved the way like Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, Carrie Fisher's Leia, Jamie Lee Curtis, Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor to name a few. It's like this movie series attracts the most delusional, self centered and worst personalities in the industry to play a lead role. What probly didn't help the movie either was Peter Dinklage was in it as well and we all know what he did for the Snow White movie as well. All in all that movie was destined to fail no matter what with these 2 in it.

The stockholders did notice recently though. For some reason is making half your possible viewers furious not a smart move. But Disney actually have even bigger problems, not only are their movies woke but the fact that they also are bad is a far worse problem.
If you actually have a good script many people could ignore that you try to show a lot of politics down their throat and I think people are focusing too much on the woke part and too little on the terrible movies. Even if they stopped being woke tomorrow they still need to make good movies to earn money.
They used to have some goodwill for past good movies so people did see movies with less then stellar scripts like Captain Marvel anyways but they haven't made a single good movie in a while so they can't live on past success anymore.
Iger and the other tops might not get the point yet but the stockholders have so I assume at least that they will force some changes soon, The Marvels should have made that very clear to them.
We wanted to watch the movie but then remembered Zegler was in it and chose not to watch it.

Rachel doesn't have to worry about fan boycotts. They simply refuse to spend their hard-earned money on a film she's in. She didn't mind making fun of other actors on her site. She didn't mind making fun of Andrew Burnap or the original Disney film. Now she's upset because the fans have turned on her. Turnabout is fair play.
Generally though, Rachel is a lesser problem for Disney. They screwed up their movies the last 5 years without her help with really bad scripts, showing politics down people's throats and lazily remaking movies that didn't need a remake.

I wanted to watch it because yk Tom Blythe is in it but then I heard that her acting was not bad but not good and from the trailers I don't think she got in the mindset of Lucy. Like with Katniss, you could almost feel the fear and bravery through the screen with her in the trailers you know it's a movie and it doesn't give you basically what she wanted to capture, but Snow was able to give you that even in the trailer.
In my opinion this movie was really good! Even tho I dislike her very much and she sang too much, it wasn’t enough to stop me from enjoying this movie as much as I did I’m going to try to watch it again! Tom Blythe was excellent perfect casting and he’s hot you should watch for him if you want!
I agree. I saw this movie and I thought Rachel had the passion, but the skill was lacking. It wasn’t enough for me to forget what she said and at times her accent slipped which also took me out of it. TOM though- I was in it for him and Viola Davis as soon as she stepped on screen her energy was REAL. Those two are examples of characters that can carry presence without even speaking but even every word uttered has you on your toes
I thought the movie was pretty okay though, although I haven’t read the original book. Tom was amazing and Rachel was ok, not amazing but I think it was alright. Singing was pretty good and visually nice as well. I think it would still still be worth watching it.

(And not only her, by the way, that tall brunette next to her in most of those clips was wholeheartedly agreeing with her and stating the same things. Strange how she's largely avoided criticism). So it was an orchestrated campaign to rebrand "Snowy White". What they didn't take into equation is the public reaction - but it's the common trait of "progressive" people and been done so often before that nobody seems to have expected such dire results.

That is a clear possibility, but it isn't a given. Tinkletown had made the mistake of putting putting stars in front of the mic and got some really bad PR from it by accident in the past so I think either is plausible.

So no matter how you see it, Rachel's speech upset everyone including people who want to watch Snow white and the 7 diverse people which is an impressive fail. Usually you only upset half of the people, not everyone.
So either Disney and their PR department are idiots because they knew Rachel's little speech or they are idiots because they allowed to speak publicly in the first place.
As for Gal, that is easy. Anything she said sounds reasonable in comparison, she might be a bit woke but she isn't a complete idiot and you worry less about a raccoon in your trashcan then one who slips into your house and trash everything.
If it just would have been her she would have gotten more complaints but not nearly as much as Rachel, she at least said she liked the source material and didn't sound like she thought she was the biggest movie star in history.

It's not just Zegler that puts people off these films, it's this science fiction dystopian future stories which are quite tiring to watch. Especially when we are actually heading into a dystopian future in reality. It's about time we had some positive films for a change, not more depression.

Everyone keeps trying to say the new hunger games failed but it’s making its money back. It wasn’t marketed like crazy, in comparison to the other hunger games. It’s okay for people to admit it wasn’t a flop. It isn’t the smash hit they are hoping for but it’s not losing money.

As much as I hate Zegler, I loved the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and it is performing decently at the box office. Not amazing, but it had a good hold over the Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm glad its going well.

I actually agree here. My wife and I saw the new Hunger Games movie on a date night thing and I left thinking well, it wasn't a BAD movie but it is a COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY movie. It's super long and accomplishes absolutely nothing because all the stuff in the movie could have been done in about 20 minutes to an hour max. If you love the original Hunger Games movie, don't see this. If you can separate this out from that then fine but again, I would personally wait until it comes out to watch free on a service you already pay for or hits broadcast TV. It's not worth the movie ticket at all. It's completely forgettable the moment you leave the theater.
I respect your opinion about the movie but for other people reading the comments I have to say I disagree. I had seen the shit about Zegler on social media so my hopes was not high for the movie in general (because of her having the lead kind of). Still it is a Hunger Games movie (and I loved the other ones) so I felt the need to see this one and I'm glad I did!
The amount of hints and "easter eggs" in this one makes you go "Oh so this is why ..." or "this must be connected to ..." etc. I feel like if you have watched the other HG movies this one actually explains alot of things in the other movies.
I also feel the need to point out that I DON'T like musicals and the movie has a lot of singing BUT it's not musical-forced (singing to move the plot forward). It's just singing because Lucy Gray (the character) is a singer.
(And the music/singing in the movie is quite good in my opinion and it's pretty far away from the music I usually listen to)

Actually in Germany it‘s not flopping… the numbers are rising. And I think the hate is exxagerated when you think about what she actually says. She is pretty proud and excited about playing a protagonist in the hunger games. Some comments aren’t the smartest but I still think it’s overdramatized and social media is the true problem here.

I was too young to watch the other Hunger Games films in theatres so when the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes released- I really wanted to watch it. I found the movie quite good but I wasn't surprised that the seats were half empty. Rachel is an arrogant person but at the same time, I can't help but feel like she gets too much criticism and backlash. The initial few weeks were fine but the more popular it got, the more I felt bad for her. She is still too young and immature. (I shouldn't be speaking any better being a teen myself). Plus, it's not only her fault. Disney is going downhill by creating so many remakes of the originals, originals that many of us grew up with and loved. If Disney can stop trying to remake past movies with modern ideas and come up with something original and unique, they can still thrive. Disney also shouldn't take in actors/ actresses who don't appreciate the roles given to them or the severity of the role. If you notice, actresses like Jenna Ortega and many others, stay humble and perform the roles given to them to the best of their potential, making characters like Wednesday a success. Rachel just needs to learn how to become more humble about the roles she receives and know how to act in front of the interview cameras. She is still young and there is so much scope for her but because of her attitude and self-entitlement, she is struggling to reach where she wants. If she truly wants to stay an actress and have people watch her, she needs to learn to be humble and let go of her big ego. In this case, that would be apologizing to the general public for any hurt feelings about her comments and staying on the low for a while to prevent adding further fuel to the fire, until the whole issue settles which could probably take a couple years seeing as how much attention she's got. I feel like Disney should also try to cancel the Snow white movie since I fear anything they make out of the originals might be a flop. This is just my own personal views on the matter.

The movie was made well before all this snow white drama. They couldn't have kicked her out by that point lol. Also, you can't compare the new Hunger Games to the old in terns of box office opening weekend. Covid has changed cinema culture. I don't go to the movies on opening weekend anymore because of the crowds and I know plenty of people who do the same. Rachel isn't the only actor in this movie, all the other actors deserve to have their movie seen.

Hunger games movie is a prequel which is hard for any studio to pull off well. We already know how Snow will end up, so there isn't any story tension there. And most of us aged out of the TEEN book series, so now it's only teens who are reading the older books as well as the new one who are fans of this particular character Zeigler is playing.
I don't think anyone should make direct prequels. If you want to revisit the world as a creator I think it's best to start with all fresh, new characters for most genres.
Sequels have their own challenges, like not undo-ing the character arcs or message of the original... but I think prequels are much harder. Can you think of many that are really great films?
Star wars prequels? Nope. Harry Potter prequels? Nope. LoTR prequels, the Hobbit? Nope.
I can't think of any prequels that achieved the same level of love as the original series.

The whole thing about people complaining that she was still in the hunger games movie after her press comments about snow white need to remember. The movie was already filled and was in post production. It was no longer in a state where they could do re-shoots on that scale since she was a main character. They would have had to take and re film the WHOLE thing. But yea this girl is single handedly tanking her own career and has no one to blame but herself. I went to see it opening weekend cause I love the hunger games series. I could tell there was a lack of desire for people to see it when the theater was over half empty on a Saturday night of opening weekend. I went to see the Barbie movie in theaters on the Saturday before labor day and the theater was pretty packed for a movie that had already ran for several months, it was actually 3/4 of the way full.
I have no desire to see her at all, but I am interested in the stories. I've personally decided to wait at least 2 wks before seeing the film.
