I'll have to get my wife to watch this video. She keeps nagging me to catalogue my collection, saying if anything happened to me she would just take them to the local charity shop! With this wonderful video, you have just saved me a daunting task hopefully. Thank You Andrew.

To do that myself would be daunting.....My wife and I were surprised when we went through the process of setting up a trust with our will etc when we found out that neither of the kids (in their 30's) had much interest in the contents of my "museum" which I have been building since the 60's. Most of the museum is Beatles stuff. As they got more expensive and slower I added to building a collection of Linda Ronstadt on the side. It was cheaper and more fun! That collection includes signed stuff and I wish my Beatles collection was as complete!...anyway the kids don't really care about any of it. My son only wants my guitars. My daughter only wants the 2 butcher covers (one mono and one stereo!). They do know who to go to to at least sell the stuff for good prices.

I have a mono Gold & black label, Dick James credit Please Please Me with correct stampers but it also stamped 1 at 9oclock and just G at 3oclock. On both sides. I believe this means that it is one of the first 300 Beatles albums ever manufactured and could be the first! Love the historical aspect of this. Also sounds amazing!

My mom dated a guy whose father owned and ran a record store. She still has her 1st State Stereo vinyl. It's probably VG, but it plays fine for how it looks. It's actually my mother's favorite Beatles "album". The guy that gave it to her died young in a motorcycle wreck. So it's special in many ways. The record is a true 1st state copy.

At 2:19, I wonder how many, Help!, Rubber Soul, and Revolver albums are from Capitol? I have the second edition of Collectors Items with Paperback Writer on it. But I am looking for a copy of the first edition with I'm Down on it. I have not found any more copies of either for decades. I have asked at various record stores. Some dealers never even heard of it. I think it is better than the US version of Rarities.

Andrew, I couldn't agree more with your statement about Apple refusing to let other companies license the tapes for further pressings! It would be so amazing if a company like Analogue Productions could put out some UHQR versions of the Beatles Mono records. I do have the 2014 mono box and I really wish I would've bought 3 or 4 of them back when they were available on Amazon! That said, I'd still be interested in purchasing a reissued Hazel Yarwood -5 cutting of Rubber Soul, as an example. We all know that there are many audiophile pressing companies out there that would love an opportunity to create top-notch pressings of the Beatles albums. C'mon Apple .. make it happen.

One point I picked out is that the whole Beatles catalogue is now not available new on vinyl at least in the original mixes (2012). From LIB to Revolver they have been replaced by the Giles Martin remixes. Used vinyl in future will be the only way to get the true Beatles sound unless Apple have a change of heart. You are correct in saying they are aiming at young buyers rather than the core older fans who are wealthier and would buy up any new mono pressings.

Andrew, great information for anyone collecting, selling or interested in Beatles/solo recordings. Having been a "collector" since the '70s (my collection now numbers almost 4600 LPs, 45s & CDs), I can tell you that the Internet is both a blessing and a curse. Its a blessing in that the amount of information available is almost limitless and your access to pressings is almost the same. However, it is a curse in that the information/access can be confusing, misleading and even down right deceitful. The scammers and thieves abound, and your watchwords about being "too good to be true" are profound. Also, everyone and their grandmother who happens to have a trashed copy of "insert title here" thinks they are sitting on retirement money and price them accordingly. So in short, whether collecting, selling or just an interested bystander, do your homework, prepare yourself for some disappointment and heed brother Andrews' words of wisedom (if it's too good to be true, it probably is), but also enjoy the ride, it is fun, enjoyable and a great community to be a part of. Made all the better by Andrew and a select few others out there! Great content Andrew, happy collecting everyone!

What they should have done in 2009 on CD (and could do today on vinyl) is release the stereo and mono mixes together for every album, along with each album's outtakes. The Zombies did this for Odessey and Oracle and it seems like a clear blueprint for a Beatles reissue plan.

Hi Andrew. Great video as usual. Having owned both the BM10 and the BC13 box sets since the early 80s and most others from the mid to late 70s, I have a pretty vast collection. Once CDs became the popular media of choice in the late 80s, I mostly stopped buying Beatles vinyl with a few exceptions (ie Anthology series I bought on vinyl and immediately put into storage unopened). Shame on me! At that time I put my turntable away and all my vinyl, Beatles mostly but lots of other non-Beatles as well. Fortunately I had the foresight to put them all in plastic outer sleeves to protect them early on. Whenever I moved to a new location over a year ago, I of course brought them with me, untouched since probably 1990 and still in immaculate condition. Bought a new high end TT and have been enjoying them immensely ever since. I have added around 50 LPs to it in the past 12 months as well (mostly Beatles, but not all).

Having been a Beatles fan since the 60s, I've often wondered what the term "rare Beatles album" meant. I bought them all as everybody else did back in the day, so there couldn't be anything rare about them, I figured. But years later, I would find mono releases in thrift stores that I did not own, such as the American Beatles VI, etc., all in mint condition. Apparently, somebody took better care of it than I did back in those days, having bought several copies after wearing out the original. I was guilty of buying the albums to enjoy them, and not collecting them. Great upload!

Good advice here, it parallels what I've learned in many decades of collecting and dealing. I'm from an area that turned up a lot of US butcher covers over the years. I use to find them fairly regularly, about one a year. I was talking to a dealer who said so many of them have been peeled now that the numbers of nice clean unpeeled ones are dwindling and these will eventually rival the price of a peeled one.

Throughout this episode I was thinking about my 1963 Capitol Canada album, Beatlemania. It was mono, in very nice shape, except for one small cover blemish. It wound up being lifted from my vinyl collection during a party (there were no Scousers in attendance so they're off the hook). If you ever come across a copy of Beatlemania where someone has drawn a handlebar moustache on John...

Such a pity the mono albums aren't available in CD or vinyl as this is how they were originally intended to be heard. Thanks for an informative video! I found it pretty interesting that in UK, many brick & mortar stores rarely stock any 70s-80s UK pressings of The Beatles. Either there are overpriced good condition OG pressings, or (slightly less) overpriced trashed OG pressings, or, if even those cannot be obtained, current reissues.
There is a far better chance getting Beatles 70s UK pressings in the wild in Germany than in the UK, it seems.

Thank you, Andrew, as always. I have away most of my vinyl when’s CD versions were available, so there are a couple of great records I lost.
I did want to comment on the “generational” element. First, as you know, many vastly underestimate The Beatles’ influence on a young crowd. On the other hand, that same “young crowd” (my children), don’t seem to care about medium. Music has, frankly, become a microwave experience (“I want to hear artist X and their (sic) new tune was quickly as possible.
As for buying what folks are selling, I enjoy that. I’d rather pay, for example , $100 for a mono Revolver in good shape than wait for EMI to repent and issue a new (demixed and remixed?) box set.

Over the last year I've become a Beatles Vinyl collector. My collection consists of mainly the US releases and original pressings or close to. I collect them because I like to listen to them and it's fun to own a record that is 60 years old or near to it. I'm not looking for the best pressing or the latest mixes. I just like having nice copies of the originals. I was born February of 81 so I've never lived in a world with all the Beatles but I'm a huge fan and enjoy owning a little bit of history. I like to put on a record and know that that would have been the copy I'd have owned in 1965 or 1968. And I own a full collection of the Capitol albums and never paid more than $30 for any of them

The prices are no longer anywhere close to today’s values but they’re still fun to look through. Excellent video! I completely agree with you. My brother and I have been collecting Beatles records since the 70's. We befriended Perry Cox decades ago and truly appreciate his knowledge and grading of vinyl. I received one record from you Andrew and it was exactly as you described. Thank you for that! Unfortunately the majority of sellers describe their records in the wrong condition (i.e. mint/mint minus) when in reality they're not. So buyer beware!
I'm at a loss why Apple doesn't sell the mono versions in single versions. Sell them in colored vinyl like the Rolling Stones or the McCartney 3. I'd buy one more set. Mind you, I don't need it, I accidentally bought 2 mono sets in a miscommunication issue in 2014.
There's only one more record I'd like to have and that's a -5/-5 Rubber Soul mono in excellent condition or better. Unfortunately, they're a bit pricey these days.😮
I look forward to your follow up videos on collecting/selling.

Hey, I thought i'd be one of the first to comment for a change! Good advice Andrew as always, one thing i often come across with buying on Ebay is grading, or lack of it. Someones VG+ or Ex is often someone elses Fair condition, so i will always ensure the seller accepts returns if the condition is way off. Not been burned too often thankfully! I also try and avoid sellers who think that everything is RARE and add is in every title or description like average condition -Twist and Shout EP's for example.

I have the Beatles In Mono CD box, and I also have some mono titles on vinyl from the 2014 pressings. I made sure to buy a vinyl copy of Mono Masters, because of my desire to hear some singles and b sides on vinyl.
I would like to see The Beatles catalog available on vinyl in mono as well as stereo.
My serious question here is will people sell their Beatles in Mono boxes after the series of remix box sets reissues all of the British titles. So far, each box set has included a CD or LP mono mix where applicable.

I've been occasionally searching ebay for original pressings of Introducing The Beatles and am amazed at the amount of counterfeit pressings with outrageous asking prices, some over $1,000. I hate to think if anyone is shelling out that kind of dough without realizing what they are getting. I managed to snag 2 copies of authentic 1964 copies for under $40 each in VG condition which is a bargain in my opinion. Individual research is a must to avoid getting taken. That said, I personally am happy that it is a buyers market as I have almost completed my original Capitol US pressings collection in stereo and mono. Just missing a mono MMT.

I have already the first four albums in mono and I presume that mono Help and Rubber Sould will be included in their respective boxed sets in, hopefully, near future. But where should I look at to get a decent condition and decent priced Sgt Pepper, MMT and White Album?

Glad you highlighted the difference between 100% analogue cuttings and those which are just mastered from digital.
Any LP mastered in the UK since 1979 will have come from a digital source (a digital "cutting delay") - so I guess that would include those early 1980s box sets you mentioned.

Agree on being bewildered with Apple's decisions on the mono box set. Another example of that is no physical release of the Rooftop concert and them no longer making Dolby Atmos mixes part of the box sets. I got those FB / Instagram ads too by the way, reported them as scams but who knows if FB will do anything about it.

about 40 years a bought a book, remember those? that listed the value of albums going back to 1920s 78s. other than some rare older records and original elvis and beatles albums a little known band called "the chocalate watchband" had the highest value of all other r&r albums. they only made 3 albums. (they're really an excellent band too, check them out.)
i eventually had a collection of over 500 albums of every genre imaginable. this included a collection of over 50 beatles albums. including the "star club" recordings, the "decca" recordings, the "beatles box," a mono and stereo version of every beatles album (except "abbey road" and "let it be" which weren't sold in mono). i had the british and american version of every album. i had picture discs, colored discs and imports from about 10 different countries including japan, italy, canada, germany, uruguay, mexico and others. and i had every beatles compliation album released in the 70s and some from the 80s.
because of conditions beyond my control in 2017 my parents sold my entire collection to a local used record store. (no other store would even come out to look at the collection.) they got around $2500 for the entire collection and thought they did a great job. but they refused to listen to me about the collection's true value. that collection was easily worth $5,000 or more. a half a lifetime of record collecting sold to the lowest bidder. THAT'S capitalism for you. my parents did their best. just wish i could've had some control over the process. oh well, c'est la vie.

Not in the best condition, but that was because I did not know how to preserve them over the decades. But all are first pressings that I bought at the local record store. I don't think that I will get much for them. But to me they are priceless. Not secondhand.

I started selling (mostly new) vinyl in 2002 and used Ebay, back then you just couldn't find new copies of any Beatles albums (other than Anthology and 1) because they weren't being pressed by EMI! So the second hand market was pretty buoyant and even average copies were going for decent money. I would imagine nowadays because new copies are easy to get hold of then collectors only want used copies in (at least) very good condition. Great video again Andrew 😀👍

I do agree that the mono albums should be repressed again. And while we're at that, why not release the original mono albums on streaming platforms too? Those who can't afford physical media take solace in streaming services. It's so annoying to listen to the stereo albums (especially the early ones) with headphones/earphones on. Also, if mono was the preferred format of the band, why haven't they released them on streaming? I don't want to resort to piracy just to listen to their mono albums.

Just want to add my rant to record companies that press far too few records of new releases and creating a lucrative market for the flippers out there. Creating limited editions and making it very difficult for real fans to buy their favourite music is rather frustrating. Record Store Day has turned into a lottery nowadays. I saw on Facebook flippers selling numbered Taylor Swift records for thousands of $$$$.

I loved this video. It made me think of how much value does my collection have.
A little backstory: I'm from Chile and for my 16th birthday I recived the whole Beatles album catalog which happened to be the chilean versions of each individual albums (with some singles too, including an original 1967 chilean copy of the Magical Mystery Tour EP, in it's pure mono mix!). My only question, as I mentioned before, was the value of it. I don't know exactly if Discogs is the right place to search the exact value this records may have nowadays. If someone knows of a solution I would be so thankful.
