Superfund: The three party government is planning to short fund the super fund by 2.1 billion as stated by N Wilis. ( Remember the government of 2009-2017 also shortfunded the superfund, which included ACT/National/Maori parties)
Nearly all of this land is owned by KiwiRail and it’s a designated railway corridor. Officially called the Avondale - Southdown link, it’s been in the pipeline for more than 70 years. The plans lay dormant for most of that time until former Transport Minister David Parker prioritised the 10km link in his 2023 draft Government Policy Statement for Land Transport.
Why does he not talk about rise of Islamic extremism? Rise of Gangs in NZ, the rise of crimes. I am more worried about local safety than the Rise of Trump or wars in Africa.
try looking at a modern 1,000 page building permit vs a 1960s 1 page building permit. We once did things, now we talk about doing things. these economists also havent done anything, so dont understand the problem.
New Zealand doesn't know what it wants to be so that makes successful planning for the future nearly impossible. Until our political system has the stabilizing effect of the upper house of parliament restored there is little hope of coherent political leadership and clear national identity being developed from that stability. Checking the un bridled power of the cabinet/ executive constantly lurching from one big idea to the next is my wish for the future and TOP ought to be campaigning on this policy. Will the electorate be receptive of this? given how poorly it comprehends policy ideas like CGT and super annuation reform it might be quite a challenge to convey the benefits succesfully...
Maybe dont blame neolib policies... it helped us to think about self responsibility. Its social policies since then which havent been good along with nanny state over regulation adding big cost without return
He boasts that he wrote lots of reports "and charged lots of money", and "I made that number up by the way but everyone quotes it now" and says it was given out by treasury" *snigger*
Unemployment, training and importing labour( immigration). Which is best choice? The current three party government is choosing importing labour to training people it seems.
True. Even this whole speech is nothing but an exasperating farrago of distortions. He mixes political uncertainty, rises in hate groups, and economics as if someone asked him to write a passage connecting all three.
This has been really good to watch

This three party government has done so much undo rather than modify.
In Finland the political parties agree the justice system is common ground and they work to use common views. Education could be similar .

Thomas Piketty’s book explains the failings of neoliberal economics.

Yes, housing consent has dropped since the new government came in, and there is a surplus of two bedroom townhouses.

This guy is really switched on. Great watch

The debt based economy is an issue and causes many difficulties.
In Turkey, they place traffic wind turbines on motorways and roads to produce power for the network.
In 1933, there was a housing issue, and state housing was officially started. Post 1984, this policy was changed with neoliberal economics.
Maybe dont blame neolib policies... it helped us to think about self responsibility. Its social policies since then which havent been good along with nanny state over regulation adding big cost without return
Yikes, for a second I thought he'd joined TOP.
How about the conservation idea of "traffic wind turbines " as they have in Turkey.

Shamubeel speaks fast and plausible but often totally wrong. Wanganui, adults at home, roading infrastructure vs maintenance
Immigration over the last period since 2009 has been too high and caused shortages.
lmao this guy has been completely wrong about basically everything he has spouted
Do not rate this bloke In my years of listening to him on TV he has been consistently wrong about pretty much everything
Agreed. We need a better economist, like joseph stiglitz. This guy is second rate
Bring on Hayek.
