DIY Smart Home Guy creates how-to videos for smart home automation centered around Z-Wave and Zigbee devices. Review videos are generally centered around Hubitat Elevation, SmartThings and Vera. I personally run Hubitat as my primary smart hub, however I do test products on the hubs mentioned. I understand that a home automation hub is not a path for everyone. I chose this path because I am a firm believer is advanced automation and local control.

On a scale of 17-39, how has your experience with Matter been so far?
Thank you for telling the truth. Always good to hear another person saying it.
Evenmore, if you tell it to them they kick you out from the community

I was involved with the beta of Matter and hubitat. Overall it was good but several devices were horrible. Most notably the Meross matter outlets. They were terrible. Also to note. The next iteration of the phone app will have access to the ios/android bluetooth stack so at that point Hubitat will be able to commission matter devices. That said I agree it can be a pain.
This is why I look for zigbee and z-wave for everything.
Seems like the safe play for now
Great video Pete! Thanks for the Enlightenment!
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video. I currently have only 1 matter device (Third Reality Night Light). It has stayed connected to my Hubitat C8 without any issues so far. I definitely agree that Matter appears to be more trouble than it is worth at this point. Hopefully at some point in the future it will be more reliable. Until then I will stick with what actually works and works well and that isn’t Matter.
I still have hope but it’s been a huge disappointment so far.
I upgraded from my C8 to Homeassistant because of that user interface 😬
it rocks
I haven't found a reason to purchase anything Matter -related. My Hubitat C7 meets every need to date.
The only way to avoid the "craptacular" UI of Habitat is to use HACS to integrate your Habitat with HomeAssistant.
Simple rules creation in the Habitat. Way better visuals in HA.
Hubitat needs a node red-esque rules engine (that isn’t node red)
@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 You can already use NodeRed with HomeAssistant.
Many thanks for creating a fun and informative video, and for sharing your experiences.
I guess that, at present, Matter doesn't.
Well said!
This is interesting, I’ve been using around 12 Wiz Matter WiFi bulbs, 2 Nanoleaf LED Strip Matter over Tread, and my Aqara hub over Matter, in Apple Home with an Apple TV 4K and a HomePod Mini and they all are reliable.
Wow! That’s great if you have it working that well. What WiFi router are you using?
is Pete the next Paul Hibbert?
There can only be one Paul Hibbert! For those who haven’t seen @paulhibbert, check his channel out. Always honest and entertaining.
@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1As much as I like Paul, the last 2 years has been one commercial after another covered up by humor. I used to learn from Paul's videos, now I just sigh.
