I definitely encourage you to finish filming this project as it showcases several different UniFi applications and use case scenarios. That is what sets you apart from other TH-cam channels. Oh man, I remember MSP work during the COVID times and having to mask at customer sites, it was the worst! Great content! Been watching a bunch of your videos today since I'm hoping to move our company more toward the Ubiquiti gear. Already have some in place but the other sysadmin and I came from a MSP that does Palo Alto, Cisco/Meraki and Aruba/HPE switching so hoping to phase that out over time and run the full Ubiquiti stack where possible.
Well done! IMHO I would install the DAC cable at the very end, since it's sticking out of the rack further, and is very stiff, you can easily damage the SPF ports ... install a short, flexible cat5 for testing
Cody can you do a video of how you became a Network engineer and how someone like me can aspire to do the same thing as a career change. Could you discuss schooling and what is best to study to start getting certifications?

@@MoneyMarcMes I would start with network + and ccna great starting point. For Cisco the have packet tracer for labs which I believe is free. Getting your hands on gear and playing with it is always great to learn

Hi Cody, how do you 'know' which cable is for what as you pick them from the bunch of cables that you have. Does it matter to know that before you put them in the patch panel?
@@MactelecomNetworks Thanks! That will work when you do the complete cabling and install; when you arrive at a location where you need to change the existing situation (for instance a complete web of cables in all colors coming from all places) you use some tool to identify which cable is what?
great video, thanks. How were you terminating those blue network cables before going into the patch panel? I've only seen the termination method where you have to punch 8 times, once for each colored wire. It looked like you were squeezing something on to the end, looked much faster. thanks.
So punching down 8 at a time you can still do with a 110 punch tool. The tool im using is the vertical cable I-Punch tool this just allows for one crimp. One thing to note though is it only works with vertical cable keystones
I notice you put one patch panel above and one below the 48-port switch. Some people seem to put both above the 48-port. Is there a right way and a wrong way, or is it a personal preference?
What would you recommend as a good starting point for someone to start a business similar to yours? Getting clients, marketing, ect. I've been using Ubiquiti gear for quite some time now, and I actually work in networking as my day job, but I would love to be able to start my own business out of it. Appreciate any assistance you can provide!
Hey, Marketing is definitely hard if you don’t mind doing residential work lots of people are looking for wifi setups, camera etc. it is harder to run cabling though. TH-cam has been the biggest thing for me in terms of marketing and leads. You could always try Facebook ads I find when I did do them I had gotten quiet a lot of work. If you’re an extrovert maybe just walking into businesses and trying to sell your services.

@@MactelecomNetworks Terminating cable is a PAIN in the a**!! Other than Ubiquiti, any other brand/camera you would recommend? Today I use Ring because of the doorbell it came with the house.
Don't forget to bypass that HH2000! LAN 1 on the ONT can go directly into your router as long as you tag VLAN 35 and put their PPPoE userid/password in!
Wish I could do a drop down with cables in my home however all the cables are run next to hot and cold water pipes in the basement for some reason. Also my basement is built for a midget 😅

These type of videos are neat. In my network admin job I never see any physical equipment; all remote terminal or gui.
You do such neat work. I always try to remember what my trade school teacher emphasized, do everything in a nest and workman like manner.

Personal preference I like using the 6 inch patch cables so one below and one above works best

The cables are labelled at the back and the front of the patch panel still needs to be done. I believe I mentioned it in the video
