Great video! I have a pair of Initial D Arcade Stage 2 machines and before I bought them, I had no idea net booting was even a thing. So when I discovered it, it blew my mind, haha. Both of my Naomi 2s already had NetDimms, so it was very cheap to set up. I've still been doing it the old fashion way with a laptop, but it's so awesome to be able to play Club Kart European Session, The King of Route 66, Crazy Taxi and others. Even non-racing games are somewhat playable without changing any controls, like Airline Pilots. I'd like to get one of the Naomi 2s going in my Neo Geo MVS 4 slot, provided I get a JAMMA I/O or make adapters for a type 1 I/O.
Oh man, I’d love to be able to have a multi racing machine. That sounds awesome! Other than Virtua Racing (which is on the mend) I don’t have controls or anything to begin a setup. I’d love a Crazy Taxi arcade machine.
Yeah those strips were a blessing. Had to setup a full length mirror in front of me to see what effect sliding the strips had on the monitor. I kind of hit a point where I was getting minimal gain though, so I gave it up after getting it to an acceptable state.

Great video Joe. I got to be honest I'd love some form or arcade set up, even if it's a bartop running a PC and emulation. The issue I have is space, or and lack of it. Well if I ever move to a bigger place Its definitely something I'll look into getting. Thanks for sharing dude :)
dylan craven Take a look at these Bartops running Hyperspin: www.tinyarcademachines.com/mame-arcade-machines.html I used to have one myself, they're pretty decent and there's more games on them than you'll ever be able to play! Not sure where you are but the guy who makes them is in the UK but I believe he ships them worldwide. They're pretty expensive though but run flawlessly, the only downsides are that the artwork offered for the sides is not great (just individual stickers stuck on rather than the whole side panel being offered as one piece of art). The other thing I didn't like was that when one of the micro switches for a button got stuck and needed replacing I discovered that all the wiring connections had been soldered (rather than crimped connectors being used which would be a lot easier to swap over).
Just found your channel. I currently have a dedicated mvc2 naomi 1 in a dynamo showcase cab. Finding replacement parts for the 33" sharper image monitor is getting expensive. I'm not well versed in the arcade world honestly but I do like this netboot option for the naomi. Would upgrading to the naomi 2 to be the best option or will the naomi 1 still be ok for most of the library via netboot? And what would be your suggestion on either and LCD upgrade for my cabinet or good quality different cabinet recommendation. Thanks.
There’s a pincushion and parallel adjustment but those don’t solve just that one corner. Believe me, I’ve tried. The rings and yoke would be next, but man, what a dark path to go down. Once you’ve played with the rings you can really be in for it. Think I’m satisfied with the convergence strips tbh.

I will also use a jamma board..a jamma/jvs adaptator is all I need (with select the 15 khz..if that s not auto). Stuff about connectors..pc hyperspin will be helpfull. Thanks.
Congrats on grabbing a Blast, they’re pretty great machines. I honestly don’t know much about PC builds or running them in a cabinet. The closest I’ve come is using a Pi2Jamma with a Pi 3, and my experience wasn’t all that great unfortunately.
I don’t know that I’ve tried any of those personally. The Pi 3b+ has limitations obviously on games that require beefier hardware. I can confirm the earlier Cave shooters work such as Dodonpachi, Espgaluda, and Ketsui.
Thanks...my favorites are horizontals..like Deathsmiles..Progear...but Guwange is great to. I use a chuwi cheap android box with mame..it's fine for progear and guwange...but sadly no deathsmiles..cotton 2...and kof 2002 u.m...
That's really cool how you use a Pi to switch games through the network interface. Were these network boards made to obtain new games from the internet like when you download a game on a console?
There were games released later in the systems life cycle that used the network feature, mostly football/soccer games I believe. Flash forward to present and crafty people have been able to capitalize and make use of the method for almost the entire library.
nice. How i wish there is a way to do netboot or multicart for Atomiswave board which in my humble opinion, although not as powerful as naomi board, it does have small foot print, fan is quieter and there are some great games line up such as KOF11, MetalSlug6,Neogeo Battle Coliuseum etc...
I do like the Atomiswave boards, although I don’t have one. I replaced the two small fans on my Naomi with Sunons, and I recently picked up a quieter case fan for the board from JNX.
Looking to build my own setup but only room for one. Any recommendations on which can to start with if the goal is to wire it for cps2/3 and Naomi? Is that too ambitious?
I’m sure there is a way to do that with an adapter of some kind, I’m just not certain what that is though. Naomi is JVS and CPS2/3 is Jamma, so you’re looking at two different standards.
I am about to buy a full Naomi2 set up for my Blast. Is it possible to have this set up and still use JAMMA boards at the same time? I want the VF4 games which are quite cheap, I am also wondering what the Naomi Dynamite Deka EX game is like. It never got a home port. I played Dynamite Deka to death on my Saturn back in 1996 and also loved the SEGA AGES PS2 version. The second game on the DC was OK, but I never fell in love with it like the first game. Have you played EX?
I’ve played EX, it’s ok but not something that I often have loaded up. The Naomi uses JVS wiring with an I/O converter, so you’ll have to do some switching to go back and forth between that and Jamma. I also have my monitor connected via VGA, so that’s something else to consider.
Thanks man. Defaults were Sanwa JLF sticks and buttons. It’s a Sanwa mount on the control panel, but I have been able to get Seimitsu LS-32 sticks on the same mount on my Astro City.
Oh man, that’s tough to say because there are so many parts to this; the Naomi 2 board, the NetDimm, the Pi Zero, and then the cab itself. You’re probably looking at $450+ for the board and dimm if you land a deal with someone on a forum. Otherwise, expect to pay more.
I'm about to install the same set up. How are you powering the NetDimm? I know there isn't enough power from the Capcom I/O so are you wiring directly to the Blast City power supply? If so, what cables did you use to do that? Thanks for the advice!
The NetDIMM itself just plugs into the Naomi and runs fine. If you meant the actual RetroPie, I have a power cord running via extension and that plugs directly into an extra outlet on the back of the power supply unit.
Send the chassis to the gameroom, ive seen you already know who they are,hes got my 2931 chassis right now, such a great cab you may wanna leave that to a pro but it looks damn good to me
I’m sure that you can, in fact I’m certain that was the old way of doing this before PiForce Tools came out. I’ve never experimented with that however, so I can’t comment too much about setup. The Pi is nice because it’s compact and easily integrated.
If you use a pc vga 31 khz with the same games it's the same no? For some jamma,ok,the real and emulation are not 100/100 accurate, but with 'modern' games they are closer to pc,like naomi, taito type x,so with a pc you should have exactly the same. I will built a nice pc hyperspin (or retroarch, mame, recalbox)in 640x480p,what's the better option (i3,i5..3,6ghz..4/8 go ram..ssd..hdd..Windows 7..10..?). It's just to play classic 15 khz with scanlines and 31 khz naomi, atomiswave, taito type X,terrordrome,sf4,trouble witches neo.. Maybe also a Xbox360 glitch on my Blast city in vga to have all japanese xboxlive arcade iso and retroarch if that possible. Real jamma are really expensive today...specially when you prefer play than collect now. Thanks if you can show what s the better and cheaper config pc to use to have the best experience. (I'm new with hyperspin).
Software emulation will only ever be as good as the programming, regardless of the hardware used. That said, I really can't give recommendations for PCs or Hyperspin because I just never use either for arcade gaming. Hyperspin seems to have gained in popularity so I'm sure there are people and forums out there who can get you started.
@@ScarletSprites Thanks. Now,with Ati cards, soft 15 khz,Groovy mame..you can have a real pixel perfect on a arcade cabinet with a pc and jammasd. th-cam.com/video/4AfXay0sNwo/w-d-xo.html I have a old pc in 15 khz but not enough power to play Cotton 2,Deathsmiles..so I try to make one in 31 khz vga to play Naomi..Atomiswave.. I compared the real pcb jamma with 15khz emulation and..it's the same for 95/100 of the games, the rest is just visible if you play the game in a rean pro way or with difficult hardware to emulate. Now my Hyperspin 31 khz is fine with pc monitor and usb arcade stick..but not yet on jammasd vga. Anyway, thanks. You can try just the easy way..a raspberry with a 15khz image of recalbox,retroarch..with Pi2jamma or other jamma..gpio scart rgb 320x240p 60hertz adaptor..is cheap and easy now..with that..from Mario bros to mvs cps3..pgm...(and soon much more with the raspberry 4).

@@ScarletSprites thanks..on pi3..Deathsmiles...kof 2002 u.m..cotton 2 running?
Probably just deathsmiles.
Scarlet Sprites Oh, I see. I thought it was like NESICAXLIVE, but that makes sense for the time.
Where did you get that case for the pi?
I actually bought it second hand years ago. I unfortunately don’t know where that person got it from.
Good stuff once again! Random question, what resolution does Metal Slug 6 run in? 240p or 480p?
It’s 480p at 31khz, pretty sharp on the monitor.
Do you run a second power supply for the Naomi?
No, I actually haven’t needed to. I know some people struggle with that but I’ve been ok.
@@ScarletSprites Is there a way to adjust the blast psu?
Yes, I believe there is a pot on the board for this although I’ve never had mine open.
what game is shown at 0:55?
Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.
Are the Blast City locks OG or repro? If repro, any chance you can let us know where to get them? THANKS, love the vids
They came with the cab, I'm assuming they are original. Sorry!
I just got curious to know which joystick and buttons came on the system by default, nice set up you got there ;)
Thanks man. Defaults were Sanwa JLF sticks and buttons. It’s a Sanwa mount on the control panel, but I have been able to get Seimitsu LS-32 sticks on the same mount on my Astro City.
What is the cheapest price for this?
@@ScarletSprites Awesome, thanks for the advice!
Send the chassis to the gameroom, ive seen you already know who they are,hes got my 2931 chassis right now, such a great cab you may wanna leave that to a pro but it looks damn good to me
Yeah, at this point I’m just leaving it as is. Unless it gets woefully terrible I’m leaving well enough alone.
@@ScarletSprites i dont blame you man i would too
Could you plug a PC into it?
I’m sure that you can, in fact I’m certain that was the old way of doing this before PiForce Tools came out. I’ve never experimented with that however, so I can’t comment too much about setup. The Pi is nice because it’s compact and easily integrated.
@@ScarletSprites Ah okay, I live in Japan so these things aren't too hard to get. Might go with a PI for one then. Thanks
If you use a pc vga 31 khz with the same games it's the same no?
For some jamma,ok,the real and emulation are not 100/100 accurate, but with 'modern' games they are closer to pc,like naomi, taito type x,so with a pc you should have exactly the same.
I will built a nice pc hyperspin (or retroarch,mame,recalbox)in 640x480p,what's the better option (i3,i5..3,6ghz..4/8 go ram..ssd..hdd..Windows 7..10..?).
Now,with Ati cards, soft 15 khz,Groovy mame..you can have a real pixel perfect on a arcade cabinet with a pc and jammasd.
th-cam.com/video/4AfXay0sNwo/w-d-xo.html
I have a old pc in 15 khz but not enough power to play Cotton 2,Deathsmiles..so I try to make one in 31 khz vga to play Naomi..Atomiswave..
Anyway,thanks.
You can try just the easy way..a raspberry with a 15khz image of recalbox,retroarch..with Pi2jamma or other jamma..gpio scart rgb 320x240p 60hertz adaptor..is cheap and easy now..with that..from Mario bros to mvs cps3..pgm...(and soon much more with the raspberry 4).
wow
Bored of that blast city yet? Sell me sell me sell me!!!! :)
What a clean Blast City. Most look like shit.
