I like your delineation between “investing” and “flipping” - i would say I’ve been a flipper for 2022 and likely will be for 2023 as well with the intention to collect Pokemon with profits. Would love more (responsible) content focused on flipping well consistently.
Im a highly addictive person on many levels and of course i fomo’d at first chasing cards i could of bought for a percentage of what i spent. But i love this tcg and glad i came back. I’ve learned from yous and pk how to control and build my collection. I appreciate yous for all the knowledge
Regarding your comment about modern product and in particular evolving skies, It would be very interesting to see what happens to that box once it stops going up. How far it will retrace? How many people will panic and start a race to the bottom? The same can be say about Moonbreon. It is amazing that people already forgot what happened to hidden fates. How everyone was in loved with that set and now prices are super low and sealed product has been stagnant for 2 years. The play with evolving skies was when it was for sale at $90. Now it is just too risky and completely dependent on demand. How long that demand will last will be something to watch on 2023.
Very nice analysis! I find myself using Hidden Fates as a comparison for alot of things modern wise in the hobby. I see alot of similarities with the moonbreon and charizard gx from hidden fates in terms of price trajectory and amount of graded copies out there. Also product wise as well. There's so much of this stuff out there already graded that the sealed play must have a reasonable ceiling. Unlike vintage. I bought a case last year at £115 each opened two then sold my last 4 evolving skies boxes between £250-£275 which I'm more than happy with. Could evolving skies reach £500-£1000 a box in the next 5-10 years quite possibly but I'm not banking on it.
Always appreciate your middle ground perspective on these things. There are pros and cons to a lot of the different aspects in these hobbies. These must be addressed and repeated because so many get lost in the weeds.
