Inside Art: Sculpting concrete with Aianna Zachary

WGLT’s Inside Art is a video series that highlights the behind the scenes process artists in central Illinois go through to produce their art. This episode features concrete sculptor Aianna Zachary, who said she moved to Bloomington to change her life. Zachary co-founded the Hangar Art Company, an art gallery for “big art” in downtown Bloomington. Through the art gallery, Zachary said she met artist Tom Kirk who hired her to be a full-time concrete sculptor. Zachary has helped create several sculptures at the sculpture park in Bloomington, and is currently building a concrete sculpture in Kirk’s house.
“I think why I like being an artist is that I can play forever,” said Zachary. “That being said, it is a lot of work.”
