- A shooting investigation was underway in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Valley Village after a homeowner reportedly shot an intruder Monday and police were searching for a two additional burglary suspects. KTLA's Chris Wolfe reports on July 8, 2024.

Californians are definitely wising up and starting to protect themselves these recent years. I called a local gun store to ask what is a good time of day to come in, and the employee said to come there before they open because the line starts 30 minutes before they open, and it’s always out the door. I know he’s truthful because I drove by the store and I saw the line of people out the door. That was last week at Turner’s outdoorsman in Signal Hill.

You should have the right to defend your property. Additionally, as an individual who identifies as black, I do not approve of the foolish activities that often lead to us being noted as the “usual suspected”. These activities tarnish the reputation of hardworking individuals like myself. It is important that homeowners have the freedom to protect their property.

We need more conservative black men in America. I too was a victim of violence and harassment from the usual suspects growing up. It wasn't just me, it was my entire family and friends. We grew up in the city, in their community, so we were not liked. So the disdain has been carried on for decades now unless there's a change.

Here’s another home invasion story from my state (Oklahoma). This was years back. A young single mother was living alone in a trailer with her baby. One night, two men attempted to break into her trailer. The young mother called 911 for help. She had a shotgun in the trailer with her. She repeatedly told the two men she had a gun and would shoot them if they forced their way in. The young woman tried blocking the door with her couch to try and keep them out. Still on the phone with the 911 dispatcher, the young mother asked if she had permission to shoot if the men forced their way in. The dispatcher replied, “Do whatever you have to do to protect yourself and your baby.” The men did force their way through her door. The young woman opened fire, killing one intruder instantly. The other intruder ran off. The next day, he turned himself in. No charges were filed against the young mother.

I seriously condemn this “journalistic” headline and culture that this headline supports. Inherently and counter to the KTLA’s argument, a home invasion is violent. Defending yourself against intruders is a reaction to a violent action. You have an inalienable right to defend yourself against any type of violence whether domestic, sexual or whatever the offenders have dictated. Do not believe KTLA’s argument that intruders have an inherent right to take your property or your means to support yourself or your children’s innocence.
