In this update we take a look at the progress on the Secord Dam. A lot of work has been completed on the power house and the emergency spillway. The Secord Dam is located on what used to be Secord Lake. Secord Lake is located in Mid Michigan. This footage was filmed on August 9, 2024. This was after the collapse of the Edenville Dam on May 19, 2020. There was much flooding that occurred around the dam at the same time that the Edenville Dam collapsed on May 19, 2020. Wixom Lake was rapidly rising due to heavy rainfall and the Edenville dam could not hold back the water. The earthen embankment of the dam failed sending water rushing towards Sanford Village. The aftermath and damage left behind is devastating. Make sure you subscribe to catch the follow up videos I will be filming.

Someday the internet will be recognized as legitimate journalism and Jordan Mowbray will get the Pulitzer prize for this reporting. Thank you, Jordan.
Someday? It's the only journalism.. Everyone knows the mainstream media is pure propaganda. And if you don't, you're brainwashed.
I sure am glad there is somebody making a historical documentary of this. This is a big deal for Michigan. Juan from California would be proud of your accomplishments. Doug
Jordan, thank you!! You have always done a great job documenting this project! Still think this project and build is per your reporting and commitment!
Awesome update!! Excellent progress on the dam. Nice to see how the emergency spillway will work if every needed gain. Big improvement for sure!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!! 🤠👍
Update appreciated.
Thanks for update...
I love seeing new amazing infrastructure being constructed here in the US. After decades of nothing but budget cuts its great to see, thank you
WOW talk about a lot of work done it is looking amazing !!!
I love your updates! ❤
Can't wait for your Smallwood update. Thanks!!!
Good show... thanks for the long term coverage.
Excellent video, tastefully done. 👍🏻
Jordan thank you update.this hell good work repair this mess.the work very nice, good planning and work.i hope get rewards for reports.thanks video😊
My day is complete Jordan update with his favorite sun glasses
Fascinating.
At 11:35 from the Drone...we see water is flowing down the steps.
What is the purpose of all the other steps, which water is not flowing over?
A lot of engineering and construction, and it looks impressive.
A great video update about the dam work as always. It would be nice if you could do some more regular and consistent uploads on the dam`s and make the video`s a little bit longer as i do really enjoy watching your update`s on all the dam`s. Keep up the good work Jordan and i hope to see you again soon in your next video. 👍😃
ty cool bud
Jordan…..a concrete contractor “Places” Concrete…..it’s a tech term that will show your right on top of the game
Thanks!
These small eddies and artificial lagoons, rip rap crannies will become habitat for many species that currently in many lakes are being destroyed by wake/surf boats. Dams will be the only safe areas for small fish and invertebrates that nurture them to breed. Wakes Kill Lakes. Great job Jordan!!
Can't wait for an update on edenville dam, oh wait, work has completely stopped.
Hi @JordanMowbray, both cameras are down at Sanford, since 3:33pm on Tuesday.
Thanks for your videos Jordan. I spent my youth on the Secord Dam portion of the river. It's disgusting that the State of Michigan basically effed over the owner of the dams. The hard left Governor & AG caused the catastrophic failures by making him raise the water levels up to normal without giving him a chance to fix the dams.
💪🏻🙏🏻👍🏻🫡🇺🇸 awesome 😎 thanks
Jordan! As always thank you for continuing to document the status of these lakes and dams. I've been following and watching since the dams collapsed! Have been trying to find out - looked over a few web sites but can't really find any mention... are any of these dams going to provide power generation again? It would seem like a good idea if all this money is being spent to restore the dams and the lakes?
Early in the planning for restoring these dams , the decision was made not to have hydro power for a number of reasons: basically, not cost-effective, because there are cheaper ways now to generate electricity. I read recently a Power company in MI retains ownership of 13 dams which they are trying to decide what to do with. In that article, the cost of generating electricity via hydro power cost 9x other methods, according to a company spokesperson.
I would be curious about the lawsuit shutting down construction on these dams in a few months
?
There is no project, no matter how beneficial to the community and society, that some ideologue or Karen or nutcase, won't sue to stop.
@@StereoSpaceFour Lakes Task Force who manages the restoration (as designated by the two counties owning the dams) maintains a website with the information you're seeking. You can also sign up to receive the regularly issued updates on every thing to do with dam developments.
You have wrongly assumed all viewers already know which damn collapse on the planet this project is fixing.
Are you going to film the Sanford Dam progress ???
I haven't been here for a while, do the people have their lake front lots back yet?
my questions is is the lake at the level its going to be now and is this the same level that the lake was before the collapse.
How does this dam even work? The emergency spillway looks lower than the actual dam. Jayman...
Will power generation be a priority? Good work on the videos, especially the drone portions.👍🇺🇸
None of the dams will be generating power anymore. Including it would have meant almost doubling the costs and significantly longer time frame due to the regulations involved. I wish it could be done as we don't generate much hydropower in the state. But realistically these dams weren't generating enough power to pay for their upkeep (just one of the reasons why the former owner let it get so bad.) so it doesn't make sense financially to include power generation in this rebuild.
Why are there steps on 3 sider of the emergency spillway?
Wondered the same thing.
Will that window be filled in with steps to match the rest of the spillway?
Jordan, once the work is done on the dam, Will they be putting In gate on the emergency spillway also?
Just a little confused. It looks like they will not be brining the water up to previous levels. If that emergency spillway is as high as the water will ever be. Interesting.
Are you there right now?
This one will be worse than the Oroville. People must evacuate now!
That spillway looks way overengineered.
Way over kill. Free money.
Other than the emergency spillway, it looks like there are cutting corners with the old spillway, just reinforcement when they should have just rebuilt the whole thing, but then I guess they can just make money off upkeep that will likely never happen
Thanks for sharing
Smallwood and Secord Dams are both supposed to get new spillway gates. I think they've focused on other things like dam stabilization, the emergency spillway, and the low level outlet because unlike at Sanford and Edenville, the old spillways are still holding back a lot of water. My thought is that when the low level outlet is complete, they will have enough pass through capacity to lower the lake level to where they can realistically put coffer dams behind the spillways like the ones currently at Sanford dam and begin work rebuilding the spillways and installing the new crest gate system.
Arrested for trespassing by who? Got at least 25 mins before the police get there
Don't fall off your tube. Those concrete energy dissipaters underwater will kill you.
@nicotti didn't plan on trying it just saying using cops as a reason to scare people off is silly in this situation lol
Does it bother you that you are documenting humans artificially damming a river and destroying the natural path that it took while destroying the habitat at the same time? Do you really believe that humans drastically altering the environment is a positive thing that you proudly document? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. The greatest thing that ever happened was the collapse of the dams and the river somewhat returning to its natural flow. Do you really believe this is a positive thing?
One of the great aspects of this series is Jordan's ability to keep his opinions out of the discussion. That is one of the ways he has the trust of so many people involved so he can get views and information no one else has. You and I would like him to express an opinion (as long as it agrees with ours, of course), but that would make his reports editorials instead of valuable news.
This was done years ago. Many of us lake homeowners are blessed with it so please don’t blame us. It’s here now and should be restored for those of us that have homes here. How would you like to have your property value decimated.
@@blackops44711 Just as I said in comment on one of Jordan's earliest videos: the property owners will figure out how to make the rest of us pay for their benefit.
