      @@marjoriehoglund8754 You really don't know what you're talking about. The declaration was in response to the bishops in Germany who answered the Pope's response to their Dubia in 2021 by creating ritual/liturgical blessings for same sex couples within their "synodal way." This declaration shuts that down, whilst giving priests the guidelines necessary for the evangelization of a same-sex couple approaching them spontaneously for a blessing. The "slippery" slope was leveled!
      I would also caution you to speak in more charitable tones about our Holy Father, and to be careful about criticizing the Magisterium. You are possibly in danger of a grave sin. Also consider that while you are right in praising Pope Benedict XVI (a very pious and astute leader), the Church was not without unfair criticism and scandalous manipulation of her reputation under his reign either. “Why [are] they asking this blessing as a couple, not as a single person? Of course, a single person who has this problem with same-sex affection can come and ask a blessing to overcome the temptations, to be able, with the grace of God, to live chastely. But as a single person, he will not come with his partner - this will be a contradiction in his way to live according to the will of God.” -Bishop Athanasius Schneider, December 19, 2023.

      Agree, but if they come together bless each of them individually and let the blessing encourage chastity, don’t give a joint blessing. I trust most faithful priests will figure this out due to their pastoral wisdom, without having to have it spelled out as a list of instructions. Let’s just place trust in Jesus who works through our faithful priests. Maybe raising this issue as has been done now will lead to catechesis of persons who have stayed away. Let us entrust to God in prayer and in support of our priests, to work good out of what we perceive as disordered.

      Not necessarily. Some people do start experiencing conversion while living that lifestyle. Imagine a a couple who’ve lived together in sin for a long time, and then beginning to experience conversion and being remorseful for their sin. That can be a big adjustment to separate from one another if they’ve made a life together. They might come seeking grace to strengthen and help them out.
      The priest can use his discretion if he discerns them to be sincere or just arrogantly seeking approval or trying to make a statement, and the fact that it’s meant to be spontaneous, private, and non-liturgical is meant to avoid people coming to make a statement.

    Father Mark, while it is poignant to examine a single step it is also appropriate to pay attention to the general direction of that step. When we don't practice that due diligence, a few decades fly by and before you know it you have evil people legitimizing evil things. The phrase "well that's not a big deal it's just a small thing it won't lead anywhere" has been uttered a million times since the 60's. And so here we are in a world miles from where we once were because we ceded those miles an inch at a time with that very phrase on our lips.

    • @tdeo2141
      @tdeo2141 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      I agree. Communion in the hand traced this very path. It became open to interpretation.
      There are already dioceses in Germany who are actually scheduling blessing ceremonies for gay couples. Father, this has opened the floodgates whether it was the intention or not.

    • @susand3668
      @susand3668 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dear@@tdeo2141you are right!! The German Synodal Way has been hijacking the German Catholic churches, and the pope is doing his best to stop it
      The Declaration, Fiducia supplicans (FS), is a tool to STOP the liberals in their tracks!
      So, FS uses the language of the German Synodal Way to tell them NO -- no, ceremonies are not to be in church, with witnesses and rings and flowers. Any blessing of couples (which is a trademark phrase of the German Synodal Way, so it's like saying to them, "We're talking to YOU, Buddy!") has to be spontaneous (not like Fr. James Martin with his photographer and his New York Times reporter!) and private.
      Cardinal Fernandez is not troubled is the blessings do not take place, if the local bishops all across the globe decide not to implement FS at all, as long as their theology is correct.
      As long as the German Synodal Way implements it, and stops their horrible public quasi-weddings!!
      Let us pray for the success of the pope against the liberals in Europe! We can hold the line against our liberals here! Right?

      @ronalddavis6430 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Fr Mark. I agree with both of the two previous comments. What you have said is naive. I predict that within months you will see priests like James Martin performing blessings for same-sex couples that look no different from weddings , best men, flowers and all. This inch at a time approach has happened repeatedly in history. What would have happened had Neville Chamberlain stood up to Hitler? All that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing.

    • @susand3668
      @susand3668 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dear@@ronalddavis6430, bless you for your concern for the Church. WE members of the Church desire so desperately that She be found pure and without spot as the Bride of Christ.
      But I think your accusation that Fr. Mark is being naive is a little misplaced. I think that he, as a priest, has heard more confessions of evil, and understands the ways of evil, far better than you or I could ever do.
      Secondly, please re-read paragraph 4 of FS. This is the foundation upon which FS is built. Here it is:
      "4. Pope Francis’ recent response to the second of the five questions posed by two Cardinals[2023 "Respuestas a los Dubia" 2] offers an opportunity to explore this issue further, especially in its pastoral implications. *It is a matter of avoiding that "something that is not marriage is being recognized as marriage."*[Ibid. 2 c] Therefore, *rites and prayers that could create confusion between what constitutes marriage* - which is the “exclusive, stable, and indissoluble union between a man and a woman, naturally open to the generation of children”[Ibid. 2 a] - *and what contradicts it* are *inadmissible*. This conviction is grounded in the perennial Catholic doctrine of marriage; it is only in this context that sexual relations find their natural, proper, and fully human meaning. The Church’s doctrine on this point remains firm."
      When FS is talking about being "pastoral", it says, it is being concerned with YOU, sir, with YOUR CONCERNS. YOu should be dancing in the streets!
      And the rest of the document builds on this theme -- that only Marriages will be blessed by the Church.

      I'd like to think that maybe Fr. Mark doesn't want to add fuel to the negativity -because this controversial document is already divisive enough & ignites negative emotions from all sides. Maybe he doesn't want to add to that chaos. Anyway, he keeps repeating that he can't bless sin & that the document basically says it is up to the priest to approach the situation w/ prudence & w/o using any liturgical blessing w/c might be likened to that of the sacrament of matrimony. This for me is enough. The only thing lacking maybe is he needs to acknowledge that the document was worded in an ambiguous manner w/c may lead to various interpretations (well it already did). On the other hand, maybe he intentionally wants people not to overly focus on its ambiguity but rather to interpret it as how conservative priests would interpret it. He wants to look at the positive side & maybe also to not tire ourselves w/ analyzing or assuming the intention for issuing such a document. That it's better to keep our peace by focusing on the bright side or the possible bright side of this, and to of course always pray hard for the church & our church leaders. Well, this is juat what thought.

If good Cardinals and Bishops see a problem with it, then I listen to them. God bless you Father❤❤I also think that if 2 people in irregular relationship go separately to a priest for a blessing and really desire to change their lives, then there's no problem.

    Already, several Bishops Conferences around the world have issued directions to the clergy that, under no circumstances, are blessings of any kind to be offered to same sex “couple”. By presenting themselves to Priest as a “couple” they are presenting themselves as two people who have committed themselves to join their bodies by way of acts which the Church condemns as mortal sin. The Pope got it right in 2021. Now, he has gone off the rails.

    - Is it realistic for an irregular couple to request a blessing while not (at least subconciously) claiming a legitimation of their own status?
    - And would it be helpful for the wellbeing of their souls if they get an impression of acknowledgement by the blessing?
    The answer in both cases is no. And that's what makes Fiducia supplicans wrongful - it sets confusion instead of clarification.

      The answer to those questions is no...only if you presume to know what's in the souls of those asking for the blessing. Isn't judgement of your neighbor's soul a serious sin? You sound like someone who watches people go up to receive communion, questioning each one's disposition. Guess what also is not realistic: That every heterosexual receiving the blessing at the end of the concluding rite of Mass is free of sin that they legitimize (how many liars, gossipers, and masturbators are in the sanctuary during the time?) But we still say it's proper and helpful to receive the blessing, yes?
      And the guidelines of the declaration make it clear that the blessing is not to have any elements which would provide for the misconstruction that a sinful union is being condoned or legitimized. Furthermore, it says that a priest can say a prayer before the blessing which asks for God's grace to lead the couple into the complete will of God. That's an excellent opportunity for the couple to hear that the blessing wishes for them to live a chaste life.
      If there's any confusion, it is not from this document. It's from the devil who is appearing to you in the form of secular media, anti-Francis provocateurs, and anti-Catholic "Christians."

      Lets say that you had multiple children with a mistress but you changed your minds and desire to become good christians and folow God´s will, wich is to live a chaste life, (since you separated from your wife a long time ago and theres no chance for reconciliation) even if you have to work together with your mistress in order to give a stable environment for your children.
      If you and your mistress desire a blessing in order for God to give you strenght and wisdom to do His will then wouldnt you two be able to recive such blessing?

      I got confirmed in the Catholic church 3 years ago on Easter vigil. I do not regret one moment of it. In fact, becoming Catholic is the greatest joy of my life; Holy Mass is the highlight of my day. AND I am hard right on doctrine, strict and zealous. So I have concerns about how Vatican communication seems to be unclear so often.

My experience of growing up w a closeted gay father who came out in my 20s (40 years ago) taught me this: Gays who present as high functioning ‘normal’ want More Than Anything to have their lifestyle accepted. This desire is powerful & has motivated politics to the point we are at now.
    Don’t be naive-this document in practice has opened a door for scandals like the recent NY Times article & potential for legal issues. Refusing to bake a gay wedding cake will seem like child’s play. The passion for acceptance runs deep in the gay community.

After such public endorsement, they lose all authority to preach about the need of repentance, the salvation of souls or the Cross. After such endorsement, you can say do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not commit abortion [instead of preaching chastity and walking in holiness], which is what Team Bergoglio wants. He wants the Church to become just an empire in which it is all about saving the planet, welcoming migrants [instead of speaking up against rampant corruption and abusive exploitation and inequal redistribution of resources in the countries peoples are fleeing from for instance] r caring for the poor…What is the difference with freemasons or other cults? Nothing, except that they are forcing their ungodly laws on members who did not choose to be part of a cult, and that they are doing this on purpose: stealing what belongs to the Holy of holies because as the Bible tells us, the devil comes to steal, destroy, and kill. The full name of the "CDF," as mentioned here is the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. This is the department that was headed by Josef Cardinal Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI. You stated that "the Church does not have the 'power to give blessing to unions of persons of the same sex," The operative word here is "unions." Father Goring is not saying anything about any kind of blessing of unions. His concern is with individuals; that is, people who are earnestly trying to repent of any such behavior, who want to stop sin in their lives and become reconciled with God through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Father Goring states that a priest is not going to bless sin. A priest is not going to call good evil and evil good. This would be in direct conflict with the 2021 statement by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Therefore, Father Goring's statement is perfectly faithful to Holy Mother Church. @@MPFXT

      Our state-owned media whipped up the public into a frenzy to the point that our churches were being burned down. I don't watch the nightly news but I am not so naive to think that it cannot affect us.

    Father Mark, I highly recommend that you read the essay by Cardinal Mueller on Fiducia Supplicans. It came out today in The Pillar. Very clear and helpful!

      Hi Irmgard, Thanks for the post. I just read Cardinal Mueller's essay. I agree with him that a hypothetical "c blessing" as he calls it is wrong because it blesses "circumstances that are contrary to the gospel". But I don't see any concept of a c blessing in FS. FS is saying you can't bless sin but also ensuring this isn't interpreted as opposing b blessings to sinners. I know Cardinal Mueller is smart, but I don't see what he sees when I look at FS. God bless.

      But you have to be "lovingly cruel " and warn them that in hell there are sinners, because they loved their sins, and sometimes they were "loved" too much, nobody dared to speak to then about their sins.

    You're right on the money father. Thank you for your voice on this. There are so many despairing saying that the magisterium taught error. Nothing has changed, Christ continues to reign over his church.

      The documents / magisterium was not touched. This is NOT A DOGMATIC document.
      I need to read the document. But like so many, I am troubled by the ambiguity that is like a cloud hanging over us.
      Fr. Mark is correct. ALL SINNERS who are struggling with any sin, must be loved and supported during the trials.

      @@katherinec.1497 I'm told it's not a magesterial document, that it's merely a Vatican document ordered by the pope. I'm not sure what the difference is? It's still a problem, as even though it doesn't chance doctrine outright, it's opening the door and is clearly blessing same sex couples. Many are looking the other way and saying there's no problem, because it doesn't bless same sex unions. Its still blesses the couple stepping forward in a sinful relationship. It's happening at the same time as the Anglicans are doing this. To say there's no problem is naive, yet so many are.

      @@katherinec.1497 "its authoritative. It has the approval of the Pope. It's part of the ordinary magisterium."
      It has no authority whatsoever. No one can give anyone else the power or the right or the duty to cause scandal. You are lying. Lying is a sin. You are also blaspheming by promoting sin and lies and scandal and telling people who do not support such that they are somehow guilty for the sins of others, so you are a hypocrite, a false teacher, a scandal monger, a false accuser, a heretic, etc. Were you these things a few days ago before the document came out? If not, then is this not proof that this diabolical instrument has caused you to fall from grace?
      The ordinary magisterium is what the Church has always taught. The Church has NEVER taught this insanely evil garbage before. And the truth is, she does not now and will not in the future, so whoever you think the 'Church' is is obviously not the Church. Now you are not only a lying, falsely accusing hypocrite heretic who promotes disgusting displays of public sin being 'blessed' both scandalizing and demoralizing the faithful and the innocents, and also persecuting the faithful, both priests and laity, who refuse to accept this blasphemy, but now also are lying about what the Church teaches, what the ordinary magisterium is, and who has the authority to do what, to say what, to order others to do, say, or approve what. That's quite a list of bad fruit for only a few days' worth of being under this spell. Or were you like this before?
