Stumpy, we have similar experiences. Good on your Dad. My Dad set me up as a sub-contractor/business owner at 15. Today, at 43, I am still spoiled and self employed owning an auto repair shop. I like your videos both for their content and your erudition. I was a technical author writing about electronics many years ago, and I appreciate clear, detailed explanations - and the humour is a bonus that keeps me on my toes watching out for the quips. A teensy-weensy point - I understand you holding the sheets of paper, but after you straightened them by tapping them on the bench for the tenth time, it became almost hypnotic watching for the next alignment, distracting me from that 'awkward' story . However, I was glad to see from the comments that it got happily resolved.

I grew up watching Norm Abram, when I was just watching out of fascination. I think my first TH-cam woodworking video was Steve Ramsey, which started it all off for me to turn my garage into a shop, and start actually trying and learning woodworking. I still enjoy WWMM, but I now watch your videos for exactly what you said: to learn new skills.
Just my two cents the reason I have watched your content is because your videos are different (in a good way) you provide a education along with your woodworking not to say others don't but between your videos and journals and personality it's a great fit. And that was a great story from WIA.
So - my favourite woodworking channels are Stumpy Nubs, and WoodWorkWeb with Colin Knecht. Mostly I watch luthier channels. But James Hamilton's videos have solved some important problems for me, such as: Using a good rip blade for cutting thick hardwood guitar parts (the combination blade burned and left saw marks), selecting the right table saw (Ridgid contractor saw with cast iron top & riving knife). I also purchased a Pentel mechanical pencil reommended by James - works a charm. I purchased several plans from Stumpy Nubs - worked very well. In the future I will be building the Stumpy Nubs drum sander - if I ever get around to building acoustic guitars instead of just electrics. I made a super useful fold-down outfeed table using Colin Knecht's recommended method. Fantastic for my tiny single-car garage workshop. I also rewatch Stumpy Nubs shop safety videos regularly in the hopes of keeping all my fingers and my eyes.
Great Video James it says a lot about a person that is willing one to go bad and make amends with someone they may have wronged.. But it is far greater in my book when they tell others of their mistake... Really shows the true person they are... Your father done a good job... On a side note... You still into high places and cleaning windows? Boy do I have a few I will not every try to get to... LOL!

How about on your vlog you once in a while do a "Channel Shout-Out" segment where you give mentions to new channels or makers no one has heard of? I know you do, at times, but I am suggesting something more dedicated and recurring. You are a legend, dude. Your endorsement could mean the difference between success and failure for new or struggling channels.
The problem is I'd have to spend a lot of time searching for them, then watching enough of their videos to decide if I can endorse them. It's like endorsing a product, a lot of time and investigation goes into that because folks trust me and I take that very seriously :)

I know this video is old in TH-cam terms, especially for a channel as prolific as yours. I just want to say that as a newbie your channel is invaluable as a source for that information I need but other assume I know. I didn’t have a clue how to sharpen chisels or buy planes without you. I’d be a liar if I didn’t think Matthew Cremona's Queen Anne High Boy was amazing and gorgeous, but through my own physical limitations I will never build. It is your channel that pushes me forward as I’m only on my first few steps of a journey of a thousand miles. Thank you.
Great story! Even more funny after reading the comment just before mine!! I don't usually comment much on TH-cam, but that was a great video, good example of humility (after being a jerk first and then realizing it of course) especially for the younger generations to see. True testament of your character running all the way back to find him and apologize after admitting to yourself you were in the wrong, which is no easy task for any of us! Anyways this is already longer than I intended, hopefully you get what I mean and this doesn't sound like total gibberish to you like it's beginning to sound in my head as I write, probably a good stopping point.? Lastly I just wanted to say thanks for always putting out exceptional content that is packed with awesome and useful information that I'm terrible at implementing into my woodworking, but none the less enjoy to watch and try! I met you in Atlanta in March (along with a bunch of others), and the interaction you had with me there is still sinking in. Your assessment of the other creators is spot-on, too. Especially when it comes to April Wilkerson. She is near the top, easily, not just because she's smart, but because she is a natural teacher (as are you). Jon Peters & John Heisz do it likewise.

Hey, i don't mind the vlogs. Its like inviting a workmate over for a chat if you know what I mean. Mind you it would be a long trip. I'm in the UK and my workshop would not fit us both in!!!
Myself I think I am MORE than a maker as I am a "DO IT ALL yourself" type person!!! I am NOT just working on wood working, I work on cars, I repair my home, and I am constantly working on metal projects, or computers and so on and on and on!! In fact there isn't a lot I can't do!! I can rework electrical, plumbing, and EVERYTHING!! In fact in my life I have learned to do WAY MORE than a lot of people!!! I tinker with all sorts of engineering and technical stuff as well! It isn't easy for me, because in my world I am NOT making money most of the time....so I have had to learn HOW to fix things I want or make things I need!!! Heck I built two additions on my shed by myself because I couldn't find anybody else to help me!! And I love problem solving at times but it does get taxing doing EVERYTHING by myself FOR myself!!
So when are you going to make a woodworking video about River tables? You never make enough of them. Just kidding. All I have to say is whatever it is your drinking in those "cold ones" of yours....keep it up. I love all of your content, from the tutorials, to the vlogs, to the simple jig videos. I taught at the Woodsmith Workshop in Des Moines last year, and was going to again this year until they cancelled because of the virus. I also used to teach at Woodworking in America conferences. Maybe some day I'll do the Wood magazine one.
I might suggest a new section on the website spotlighting CNC I know your big buck Bank video was kind of your Testament to CNC work but it would nice to see at least the occasional project Geared for the CNC worker.

This video isn't even about a tapering jig. I guess you don't taper anything anymore ever. Also, Laura Kampf's channel is awesome, I love her honest assessment of her projects
Mostly a joke about the folks who manage to ignore your huge library of content and complain that any given video isn't the specific subject they want it to be about.
My advise is, never explain, Stumpy, because it makes you look defensive, and maybe even a bit guilty. Instead consider the reality that the intertoob maroons outnumber you by the millions. Stupidity is the most common element in the universe. What you produce is fine by us, or else we wouldn't be here. Please don't waste our time talking to them!
I guess you need to make a video about mic technique. Not one boy in a hundred can do it right. There was so muck reverb in Aprils video that it really interfered with the valuable content.
If there is anyone to admire, check out EngelsCoachShop. What does he do best? Everything: woodworking, blacksmithing, machining. Brings them all together. Then recreates the 20-mule-team-borax wagons. Then someone lends him the services of 20 mules and drivers n he takes them to D.C. and the Rose Bowl Parade. Or do you just need your horse-drawn Studebaker buggy repaired? New wheels for your farm wagon? You supply the horses. You might have to supply the reins.

Lastly I just wanted to say thanks for always putting out exceptional content that is packed with awesome and useful information that I'm terrible at implementing into my woodworking, but none the less enjoy to watch and try! Along with the dry humor and embarrassing anecdotes makes for one of my favorite channels by far. Back to my crappy workbench and a cold one, cheers!

I met you in Atlanta in March (along with a bunch of others), and the interaction you had with me there is still sinking in. Your assessment of the other creators is spot-on, too. Especially when it comes to April Wilkerson. She is near the top, easily, not just because she's smart, but because she is a natural teacher (as are you). Jon Peters & John Heisz do it likewise.

Been into WoodMizer, wished i lived were there were trees worth sawing, again. I end up drooling over their wood. Matthews Cremona keeps me waiting for more, so does Out Of The Woods (OTW). Now there's a visual feast, and both make furniture and show off followers' projects. Too many sites, not enough years!

You selection of youtube makers was great, Frank is excellent for imagination and editing also his outrageous vintage equipment, Laura Kampf and Darbin Orvar for the brightness of the videos, the others you mentioned are on my goto list I always find them entertaining. Oh, there is some other guy on my goto list too' "Stumpy Nubs"'
After I filmed this I wished that I had included a lot of others. I like Garage Woodworks, Izzy Swan, and a bunch of others too. But I was running long on the video as it was!
I too cut it short, to much typing. Yes there are more, Izzy Swan is great for his outrageous fun projects and enthusiasm and Steve for his enthusiasm. April has really good ideals for what she films. On & On. ;} Thank you for the reply!
You should check out "Giaco Whatever". He qualifies more as a "maker" than a woodworker, but his stuff is awesome!

Myself I think I am MORE than a maker as I am a "DO IT ALL yourself" type person!!! I am NOT just working on wood working, I work on cars, I repair my home, and I am constantly working on metal projects, or computers and so on and on and on!! In fact there isn't a lot I can't do!! I can rework electrical, plumbing, and EVERYTHING!! In fact in my life I have learned to do WAY MORE than a lot of people!!! I tinker with all sorts of engineering and technical stuff as well! It isn't easy for me, because in my world I am NOT making money most of the time....so I have had to learn HOW to fix things I want or make things I need!!! Heck I built two additions on my shed by myself because I couldn't find anybody else to help me!! And I love problem solving at times but it does get taxing doing EVERYTHING by myself FOR myself!!

So when are you going to make a woodworking video about River tables? You never make enough of them. Just kidding. All I have to say is whatever it is your drinking in those "cold ones" of yours....keep it up. I love all of your content, from the tutorials, to the vlogs, to the simple jig videos. You have a way of brightening people's day with your dry humor, and I am glad you are living your woodworking dream. That is a very cool story about your Dad and some of what he taught you when you were younger. Sorry about your Mom, but then again not all of us got to live the life of either a Ozzie and Harriet or Brady bunch family now did we?

I taught at the Woodsmith Workshop in Des Moines last year, and was going to again this year until they cancelled because of the virus. I also used to teach at Woodworking in America conferences. Maybe some day I'll do the Wood magazine one.
Also, Facebook wouldn't let you (anyone) have a personal account under a name that isn't their real name. I remember that being an issue.
I might suggest a new section on the website spotlighting CNC I know your big buck Bank video was kind of your Testament to CNC work but it would nice to see at least the occasional project Geared for the CNC worker.

Mostly a joke about the folks who manage to ignore your huge library of content and complain that any given video isn't the specific subject they want it to be about.
My advise is, never explain, Stumpy, because it makes you look defensive, and maybe even a bit guilty. Instead consider the reality that the intertoob maroons outnumber you by the millions. Stupidity is the most common element in the universe. What you produce is fine by us, or else we wouldn't be here. Please don't waste our time talking to them!

Jackman Works Your channel should have been mentioned. Always really cool projects and, I love your taste in music.
I guess you need to make a video about mic technique. Not one boy in a hundred can do it right. There was so muck reverb in Aprils video that it really interfered with the valuable content.
If there is anyone to admire, check out EngelsCoachShop. What does he do best? Everything: woodworking, blacksmithing, machining. Brings them all together. Then recreates the 20-mule-team-borax wagons. Then someone lends him the services of 20 mules and drivers n he takes them to D.C. and the Rose Bowl Parade. Or do you just need your horse-drawn Studebaker buggy repaired? New wheels for your farm wagon? You supply the horses. You might have to supply the reins.
