I bought one of these about 6 months ago and I'm now a dedicated spyderco fan. I'm a mechanic who does custom accessories on ATVs and lives on a farm. My knives get used, abused, and lost and they all break sooner or later no matter how pricey so I dont see the need to spend more than $40 on an EDC knife. I've carried just about every brand and this knife has held up the best by far. I use the crap out of it and it still locks up nice and tight, holds a razor sharp edge, and is very comfortable
This is an excellent starter knife for a young teenager for outdoor camping and fishing utility. It’s smallish in size but big enough to fit comfortably in regular sized hands. The handle is comfortable. The locking mechanism is solid. The steel is in the cheaper side but still strong enough to handle most small tasks. The blade doesn’t resist moisture well so it must be wiped down and cleaned regularly.
Thanks, long term reviews are great. Nice to see you acually use your knives. Been wanting to buy one of these for awhile. If you want to get all of the rust off try soaking it in vinager overnight. :)
I have a CRKT Pilar, a Kershaw Shuffle 1, a Ka-Bar Folding Hunter, a Spyderco Tenacious, a Benchmade Bugout, a Kershaw Cryo, and an old serrated police Spyderco Delica, and that Spyderco Tenacious is a great knife, obviously the Bugout is my favorite but that Tenacious along with Pilar are amazing work knives. Great review, very helpful
Currently my EDC knife and I love the hell out of it! This knife is so strong and sharp, its going to be hard to find a knife that can replace it as my EDC.
I just got my tenancious today! it's really an awesome knife. the only problem i'm having is, it won't deploy FAST as yours. I can't flick it open. any chance mine is defective? not broken in yet? I notice, there's a little ball bearing that may be stopping it from deploying from flicking it. think you can give me advice?
I just picked this knife up recently, I decided to get another Spyderco knife because my Dragonfly 2 has held up so well after 6 years of abuse, I’ve literally cut hundreds of cardboard boxes up with it, it’s got VG-10 steel and holds an edge ok, not as good as my other knives with S-30V blades, I don’t mind lower quality steel because they do sharpen up faster and easier, S-30V takes quite a bit to bring the edge back, D-2 is also a good choice, my Benchmade is D2, but I’m liking this inexpensive Spyderco Tenacious, feels good in the hand and nice blade design
I just got one about a week ago and I've been opening and closing it alot well watching tv and my is super smooth but my brother also got one when I did and his is pretty stiff I'm not sure if its becuase he hasn't messed around with his enough to make it smooth or if his came with a pivot screw that is too tight.
You should check out the Polestar, it kind of looks like the Tenacious - except it has a better blade steel. It's only $15 - $20 more than the Tenacious.
I've had mine for about a month, a friend ordered one on amazon and they accidentally sent him two so he sold me the second for ~$20! Really happy with it so far, its really smooth and seems to cut everything like butter. And after seeing this review 4 years out, I'm even more excited about it. Thanks for the review
Nice video man,but i have q question. Its about mine that doesnt stop Squeaking,i know that it is from the detent ball rubbing against the blade but dont really know what to do. Even oiling didnt really help.Any ideas ?
It might be your linerlock scraping against your blade as it opens. Try holding your liner lock open and see if your blade moves smoothly. After repeated openings my gets sticky against the liner lock but the copper bushings always stay smooth. Unfortunately I really have no ideas how to fix this or why it worsens the more you open and close it. Fortunately it's not really an issue in regular use.
I use my tenacious all the time in the kitchen. I used it today to eat my steak. I prefer my tenacious to a chef's knife or a pairing knife. The handle is so much more comfortable and with the ffg it was meant to be a slicer. Don't knock it till you try it.

Looking to purchase a spyderco tenacious at my local bass pro shops but is listed for $79.99 and with taxes it comes to around 90 bucks and I'm wondering if i should buy it online because its about 40 bucks cheaper help? Is it really worth $90? Even if i have two $25 dollar gift cards?
I did the exact same thing. Had a $50 gift card and bought it at bass pro for way too much money. I still absolutely love my tenacious but I wish I woulda just bought some ammunition or something lol
One of the screw threads on the pocket clip of my Tenacious is completely worn after my first attempt to re-position the clip. Now I have no idea how to remove the screw - suggestions, anyone?

You can't make a fare comparison with a 30 dollar knife to 130 dollar knife. The Benchmade 940 is more expensive for a reason. S30V steel is a better steel than the Chinese 13mov. For 30 dollars the Tenacious is a GREAT!! knife for the price.
I bought a $250 bench made folder years back and had the tip snap off randomly. I don’t know how, when or why. Just pulled it out one day and it was snapped. I’ll never buy a knife I intend on working with for over $60 again. A lot of them are like a Harley Davidson. Only paying for the name.
ima get this knife and my addiction started about 2 months ago i have 8 knives now and still buying i want to get this knife for my first rlly nice edc im 14 but not an idiot one who would bring it to school im responsible and all but thank you for the long term review
Great knife except for the chinga steel I have had several 13cmov blades rust in my pocket I won't buy it any more shame because spyderco and kershaw make some awesome knives in my price range rather have 420hc 440c or my favourite sandvik 13c26 or 14c26 I own s30v blades but I'm scared to take them fishing they are so expensive here in New Zealand and hard to sharpen maybe a bit over rated.
I agree, you can get it hair popping sharp but every time you use it it needs a touch up, but I'm a bit OCD about keeping my blades sharp so it's the same for most of the lesser steels and even my German DICK fileting blades, a good diamond infused stone is the ticket, cheers m8. I enjoy your reviews keeps me entertained on a shitty wet Sunday arvo.
doug bulldog I live on the coast and go fishing acouple of times a week and use my Tenacious fo gutting mackrel mostly, after a good rinsing and drying i EDC it most days. It is after all "stainless" and it will rust quicker than the supersteels and much slower than carbon steels, you pays your money you make your choice, then you bloody well learn to look after your tools or suffer the results.
I live on the coast and fish a couple of times most weeks too, I look after my blades with wd-40 and oil but have still had 13cmov rust in my pocket- just stating the facts bro, I'am a qualified carpenter so don't tell me about looking after my tools thats what I earn my living from.
fonzie flores Knives are meant to cut things, not sit in dirty dish water for long periods and let them rust/corrode. That's called neglect. You take care of your stuff however you wish. I will take care of my stuff the way I see fit "bro". Stay safe out there.
fonzie flores My statement was an observation of neglect. What exactly did I contradict? Never mind. Let's not go any further. I learned a long time ago not to argue with stupid people or women. By the way, you are a rude. Learn some manners and reading comprehension. Have a nice day.
You contradicted yourself by stating how he neglected his knife and how wrong it was then how i can take care how i want and you the same pretty much saying to each their own which was not your intentions in the original comments. PUSSYBOI.
I see that carbon fiber Reps are almost here, but I am more interested in the original replicant. Are you guys releasing anything in the sub $300 range? Sorry, I'm sure you get more than enough of these questions.
Tim T. I completely agree. I carry 2. Both in my right front pocket even (1 in that little small pocket and then the larger tenacious in the main pocket) that way my phone doesn’t get scratched up in my left lol
haha had mine for a lil more than 3 years always use mine for my bbqs, it even survived dragging across the street in my last moto accident with few scratches on the pocket clip and still did not come off my pocket

FINALLY found one today. So glad a bought it.
Try lubing up the knife. You may need new copper washers and I use TUF-GLIDE.
But after 3 years and allot of abuse my knife still opens like new
in one of the cheapest knife shops i know in france its still 70 euros which is 93 usd
Definitely not worth USD 93. But I understand they have to import it and pay duties and all.
really??
the tenacious only costs €49 in Belgium...
knifezoid yes but can the import tax and stuff really be that much.
qaching And yes Really!.
thats the only thing i don't like about france
Everything Is Expensive!!!
qaching +-€45 In The Netherlands... :P
Do u wanna sell the Osborne
the white stuff on ur knife is probably from hard water, get ur water checked....
or, it's salts from sweat...O_O
Or it's.... Nevermind
Noah Koenig ha
Or cocaine
@@bistermean7914 it's definitely cocaine. Mine is covered in it too
ima get this knife and my addiction started about 2 months ago i have 8 knives now and still buying i want to get this knife for my first rlly nice edc im 14 but not an idiot one who would bring it to school im responsible and all but thank you for the long term review
Brodrick Olson have yet to meet a responsible 14 year old
Are you a responsible 20 year old now
Boulder, Colorado on the box and China on the knife blade
A really great and honest review. Thanks for sharin!
Great review but why use that knife for food prep? Get a kitchen knife for preparing food and keep this for everything else
Great knife except for the chinga steel I have had several 13cmov blades rust in my pocket I won't buy it any more shame because spyderco and kershaw make some awesome knives in my price range rather have 420hc 440c or my favourite sandvik 13c26 or 14c26 I own s30v blades but I'm scared to take them fishing they are so expensive here in New Zealand and hard to sharpen maybe a bit over rated.
doug bulldog My main complain is it doesn't hold an edge quite as well as other steels.
I agree, you can get it hair popping sharp but every time you use it it needs a touch up, but I'm a bit OCD about keeping my blades sharp so it's the same for most of the lesser steels and even my German DICK fileting blades, a good diamond infused stone is the ticket, cheers m8. I enjoy your reviews keeps me entertained on a shitty wet Sunday arvo.
doug bulldog you should probably get a purposely made marine knife instead
doug bulldog I live on the coast and go fishing acouple of times a week and use my Tenacious fo gutting mackrel mostly, after a good rinsing and drying i EDC it most days.
Good review, i'm looking for my firs Spyderco and maybe this is hehe thanks, greetins from Argentina.
They have screw remover tools, but it's hardly worth spending more on the tool than what the knife is worth.
Dude, send that Tenacious to me so it can be taken care of it like it deserves. I will send you a proper kitchen knife in return. Seriously.
Bro it's a knife that's what they're made for.
fonzie flores Knives are meant to cut things, not sit in dirty dish water for long periods and let them rust/corrode. That's called neglect. You take care of your stuff however you wish. I will take care of my stuff the way I see fit "bro". Stay safe out there.
GLOCKCOPG23 Then you just contradicted yourself fuck wad.
fonzie flores My statement was an observation of neglect.
PUSSYBOI.
I kinda want one of those too.
Budget instead of beating the Para 2.
Why is everyone so shocked that you've used this in the kitchen? It's an excellent slicing grind...
Cause people don't actually use their knives. They buy them, pretend they are survivalists, and then go criticize people on youtube. #facts
I see that carbon fiber Reps are almost here, but I am more interested in the original replicant. Are you guys releasing anything in the sub $300 range? Sorry, I'm sure you get more than enough of these questions.
mark h.contento yes more standards on the way as well! Thanks for your support
2021 and still hoping he uses it but also cleans it.
I can't find it. I think bacteria ate it. LMAO!
This grossed me out. Who the fuck uses a folder as a dedicated kitchen knife?
*****
Or you could, I don't know, SHARPEN your kitchen knives?
cupcakestereo ahahahaha good point
***** hahaha yes
Mine was knackered after 48 hours.
Leave the man alone. I personally use 2 Channellocks to rip up my steaks.
Knifezoid, I think you should carry two knives. It never hurts to carry two knives.
I usually have 3, 4 if you count the multi tool. 2 knives can't hurt, never leave home without a flash 1, and a multitool comes in handy...
Tim T. I completely agree. I carry 2. Both in my right front pocket even (1 in that little small pocket and then the larger tenacious in the main pocket) that way my phone doesn’t get scratched up in my left lol
Just bought one with a serrated edge. Cut myself within 15 minutes.Witched sharp!!
That’s not rust.
That’s disgusting crud. If you’re using that knife for food prep, you must have a strong immune system.
Suburban Rifleman it's good on sandwiches
Just picked one up the other day good knife great price
It's a really nice knife. I don't really use it since I got my spyderco sage 1 that is just amazing.
It's $42.99 just bought one an hour ago lol
I got mine for almost double that price, because Switzerland. Fuck me.

Nice I just bought on for my dad science his dog fielder in really heavy and he doesn't like it
Franky Alvarez what?
Now I really wanna see someone put their knife in the dishwasher xD
You sound like Chris Angel in this recording. No bali tricks or magic tricks in this vid though.
After I read this comment I can't unhear it now hahaha, jeez.
haha had mine for a lil more than 3 years always use mine for my bbqs, it even survived dragging across the street in my last moto accident with few scratches on the pocket clip and still did not come off my pocket
