@Sharon Pate Same! 67 and so proud to say I got to see them in concert once in my life time. It was an anniversary trip to Dallas I'll never forget. My husband has passed but it's one of my most treasured memories I have. 💞
The audience had no idea these two were a once in a lifetime duo. Next level talent and soul. I’m glad to see them getting love from the younger generation. Respect.
He ran you out of the room!! I get it!! This man can SING! He is just amazing! Totally get blown away by his soulful vocals ,runs and range! This is the best of blue-eyed soul! Porgy and Bess was written by George and Ira Gershwin but had an all black cast. It was written in an operatic style but had spoken dialogue like a musical whereas in an opera everything is sung. Pretty obvious how they got the tag 'blue eyed soul' isn't it. Thank you for reacting to some of their more obscure performances of which there were many. Bobby was my fave and so happy he did solos as they both did. Greatest duo who gave us soul, rock and hop all rolled in one. RIP Bobby Hatfield you will be missed forever. They were regulars on Shin Dig.
They were regulars on the TV show Shindig from 1964-1966 so there's many old b/w videos of them singing together or solo like this song "Summertime". They sing their 1st recorded song "Little Latin Lupa Loo" that launched their career in 1963 Bill wrote on the show.
In 1965, there was a weekday daytime TV series on CBS entitled "Something Special". The Righteous Brothers were a guest on an episode of the show. "Summertime" was an album cut on their 1965 album, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". The Righteous Brothers made frequent appearances on the 1960s ABC prime-time Rock music program, "Shindig". On that TV show, The Righteous Brothers teamed up with The Blossoms (an African-American female singing trio) to sing a cover of the Ray Charles hit song, "The Night Time (Is The Right Time)". All of the singers cut loose, and sing their hearts out on that song. The TV performance by The Righteous Brothers And The Blossoms is available for viewing here on TH-cam.
Now THAT’S blue - eyed soul. I remember him singing his turn in “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin”, and I really needed to hear more of Bobby. He blew me away with his high pitch and the oassion in his voice. Love the Righteous Brothers!
Thanks for a great reaction! This song is from Porgy and Bess, and it's been covered 34,000 times. So I knew it before I heard Bobby sing it. And his version is different, but he sure did have soul!
I had never heard Bobby sing this song. It is not my favorite performance of his but he did it justice for sure. It is amazing when you know they performed live without digital correction.
This is the first time I'm hearing Bobby do this. How does this man have SO much soul? He seemed to be lost in performance. Bobby is the greatest and we miss him so much.
Thank you for your honest reaction to this song by Bobby Hatfield!!! Written in the 1930's and has been covered by many people. I first heard this song in the early 60's as an instrumental. I hadn't heard this by Bobby in a very long time and I had forgotten what I was missing. So glad you loved it! ❤❤❤❤😊😮
There are plenty of the old Shindig Show videos to check out where both men absolutely let it rip like this live. It's what they were most noted for at the time. Their love songs were great but they would bring the house down every week on Shindig with their R&B and no holds barred vocals as well as their humor. They are simply unmatched in vocal skills to this day. Dig thru their archives because I don't want you to miss what the Righteous Brothers were really about. Try checking out "I Need Your Loving Everyday" and "Ko Ko Joe". Blue Eyed Soul and humor is who they were.
The Righteous Brothers were a little bit before my time but I heard them on the oldies but goodies stations. What I had not heard until TH-cam were these LIVE recordings. They are so much MORE than the album/radio versions! Wow! I did not realize how crazy Bobby's voice was! You gotta realize this was BEFORE it became trendy to do these runs with your voice (which people over do today). The tempo changes, voice technique - the smooth runs here are perfection! AND ALL LIVE, no enhancements.
Great reaction! When I hear 'summertime' my mind goes straight to 'In the Summertime' by Mungo Jerry. I had completely forgotten about this song even though I listened to it on the radio hundreds of times back then. Thanks for the memories!
You got me laughing over here. I'm so happy you got to discover what I grew up on. Im 70 years old and my older brothers was listening to this music. And I liked it to I was 13 when he did thus song
75 year old lady but this is one I missed Just absolutely WOWED me and your reaction to his voice was absolutely amazing thanks for sharing . Definitely will look for you again enjoyable experience
Summertime is a jazz standard composed in 1934, 'Summertime' by George Gershwin for his brand-new opera Porgy and Bess which consisted of mostly black actors/singers. The jazz-inspired song is a lullaby for Clara to sing to her child, and it is reprised several more times throughout the opera.
They both did solos under the name of The Righteous Brothers,it gave each an opputunity to shine in their own and stretch their singing abilities, while still being a dual.
Sally lee 1 day ago Bobby Hatfield, my favorite singer was a Contra-Tenor. Check out Bobby singing "Summertime". Bobby singing "My Prayer" Bobby and Bill (Medley) together were amazing. Check them out on the Ed Sullivan Show, "You'll never walk alone"; The Andy Williams Show (Unchained Melody) They were on the "Shindig" TV show. Check out "Mix -Righteous Brothers Shindig appearances" They were together until early 70's, split for a while, Bill going solo and Bobby solo and singing with another guy. They got back together a few years later and performed until Bobby sadly passed away in Nov.2003, A few months before his passing, they were inducted into the R and R Hall of fame. Bill is still performing with Bucky Heard as the "Righteous Brothers" but no one, in my opinion, will ever top the wonderful and amazing Bobby Hatfield. Together Bob and Bill were magic. * They always sang LIVE. ***They were the opening act for the Beatles on their first tour of America until the boys signed on to the Shindig TV show. Sally
The ‘Brothers’ always put on a Vegas type show at their concerts rather than just sing. They were the first rock an roll act to headline in Las Vegas, whee they were brought in by Frank Sinatra and they played there off and on for their entire career. And yes, they started out with hard rock and roll which they sang for three years before they did their first ballad (You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling). They were always an R&B duo at heart…. Try ‘I Just Wanna make Love to You”. Bill doing Delta blues….Ot “B Side Blues” for both of them….😁 B side Blues th-cam.com/video/DpZpbBVMRnQ/w-d-xo.html I Just Wanna Make Love to You th-cam.com/video/16rnqBZURIc/w-d-xo.html Here’ one of their rockers…th-cam.com/video/N6O-fFgl5vE/w-d-xo.html
OMG, the late Bobby Hatfield! His voice was so awesome! No auto tunes, just pure raw talent! I was in high school when they came out. I still have their vinyl record albums in my collection. I still play their CD'S in my car! ❤️ ❤️❤️
Bobby's voice is incredible. I think he pioneered runs like that in popular music. And the arrangement of the music with the horns and piano is so 60s. I think it would've been hard for this version to have topped the charts because they did not record it like this. Some of the Righteous Brothers' early music was hard to place for DJs. White DJs thought it was too black and black DJs, (who were actually the first to play them) were surprise they were white and wasn't sure what to do with them. Nicknamed them blue eyed soul.
Unchained Melody was as high as 4 in the US and 1 in the UK in 1965, then that recording was back in the top ten in 1990 after it was used in Ghost, and RB re-recorded their biggest hits that year (their Reunion album), and that 1990 recording was top 20 in the US while the original was also on the charts.
In 1990, there were two versions of Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers! The record company initially wouldn't release the 1965 version. So Bobby went back into the studio and recorded a new version. Well then the record company released the original version by Bobby and it reached number 13 on Billboard and Bobby's new version made it to number 19. So they are the only recording act to have two versions of the same song on the charts at the same time!! In1991 Unchained Melody was number one world wide! And yet Bobby did not win a Grammy! Unbelievable!
Your reaction is priceless. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were in pain, from hearing some horrible, painfully bad music. But, no. That is you writhing and running in pure delight! I LOVE IT! The music is amazing, and you, sir, are a pleasure, in your own right.
Summertime was originally from the play“ porgy and Bess”. You should watch that play I'm sure you could find it there's been TV productions of it. And it was originally a lullaby. The lullaby is what I sang to my kids when they were babies in the style of porgy and Bess. The jazz up version isn't my favorite but it definitely gives Bobby a chance to show off solo in something different than Unchained melody.
Wait until you hear the Vinyl Album: "Porgy and Bess" by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald singing -- smooth as silk. This music was written for the Broadway Musical: "Porgy and Bess", one of the saddest plays I have ever seen, much like a Tragic Opera. (Ella Fitzgerald is on a You Tube Channel showing her sing the same song; at 68 years old. Posted June 21, 2010).
Peace. Unchained Melody is considered most beautiful song amongst all Rock-n- Roll music. Am in agreement! Have enjoyed watching you appreciating one of my favorite singers from way back when. Peace.
As someone who listened to them in the '60s, I love watching people discover the Righteous Brothers now. It may have already been suggested, but if you haven't reacted to them doing "I Just Want To Make Love to You", you're in for a real treat... th-cam.com/video/Udyqprq46b0/w-d-xo.html (audio only, but still incredible).
Always loved this song & have been singing it since my teens (or 20s? Can’t remember) My mom, who came from the big band & jazz era), never mentioned the Righteous Brothers to me. Guess she forgot! This song has been covered beautifully by many different artists, in many different styles. Bobby’s voice is quite something isn’t it? Lol😅 thx for funny reaction
This song is from Porgy and Bess, a George Gershwin play/musical. It was my favorite song from Porgy and Bess but this was the first time I've heard Bobby do it. Jazz blues all the way - dang, he's good.
I love Bobby Hatfield unchained melodies my favorite song and I have never heard this before. Thank you so much this guy has got to be the most phenomenal singer I have ever heard
Its really nice to watch and hear a beautiful poetic duo from about sixty years ago which would make me around 7.....I truly enjoy your videos and I am glad that these musicians are being appreciated again by the young you
This is probably the most famous song (aria?) from the American Opera, Porgy and Bess. However, there are some other songs that became hits, as well. I believe Cab Calloway made a hit cover of "It Ain't Necessarily So." Porgy and Bess is definitely worth a watch, if you have a few hours. The music is amazing and the story is wonderful, and I, for one, need several hankies. It is written in Gullah, a very specific Black American dialect, mostly found in South Carolina, although it does extend all the way to Florida. It is separate from Black English Vernacular (what they used to call AAVE, and how I learned to refer to it, when I studied it in my English Linguistics class), although Gullah and AAVE/BEV do share many characteristics. Porgy and Bess was written by white men, with great sympathy for the black characters and respect for the culture in which the story is placed, and they worked hard to get it linguistically correct. Although the primary lyricist, Heyward, came from the plantation elite class, he had great sympathy for the black people in his world, and was noted to have written "the first novel about them (Porgy) without condescension," according to some critics. Other critics say, "He was sympathetic, but he used stereotypes, and didn't do enough to uplift them, and all his black characters in Porgy were illiterate." Well, they are all from one very specfic neighborhood, Catfish Row, and illiteracy does tend to be highly localized. That is to say, if you are in a neighborhood with a SUCKY school system, you and your neighbors are likely to be uneducated. That does not mean that all people of your skin color or culture are going to be uneducated. But, there are a lot of critics out there with an "all or nothing" view, and they are NOT satisfied with Heyward's depiction of the folks who live in Catfish Row, sympathetic, or not. But nobody complains about the linguistic quality of the lyrics, so there's that. As for the poetic quality of the lyrics, they are AMAZING, particularly the ones written by Heyward (he collaborated with Ira Gershwin, who got most of the credit, but has acknowledged that the most striking and respected portions of the lyrics are, in fact, the work of Heyward, who was primarily a poet and novelist. And the music, by George Gershwn, is beautiful. Anyway, enough of the history lesson about the creation of a black opera, by a handful of white people (the play, adapted from the novel, Porgy, by Heyward, was written by his wife). My point is, IT IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, and well worth watching! It was created back in the day, when white people creating "Black" works was considered a labor of love and respect for their Black brothers and sisters, and not evil cultural appropriation. And it was meant to be a testament to the fact that, regardless of color, we are all HUMAN BEINGS and share more in common than we have differences. Most white people don't have the musical soul of black people, not because it's not possible, but because they were denied access to it, by their education. But music, GOOD MUSIC, crosses all lines and breaks all barriers. Nothing can bond people quite the same as just plain GOOD music.
Back in the day, during the Summer, there were short lived "Variety Shows" that filled in for the networks. Otherwise, there would only be regular 13 week schedule shows shown again. What we called Re-runs. Year round, there was a "Movie of the Week", and other programs that we don't see done today since cable. I loved this version. I think my fav version of this song is still Janice Joplin (now we know where she got the idea), and Fantasia Barino did a great version on American Idol. Good post MMB. New Subscriber. God's blessing on your channel little brother.
Just ran across ur vid, I know it's 9mos old but, I just had 2 comment on Bobby's voice. I hadn't heart this partic song B4. I knew he had an awesome voice, but this, this was crazy. The way he kept throwing his hand up & moving his fingers when he hit the high notes reminded me of other artists, from that time period. I just kept thinking, " he's taking me to church" w/this one! Very diff from his other vids. I just had no idea of the depth of soul he possessed! So dope!! Thanks so much for bringing it!
Such an amazing talent that we are lucky to come across once in a generation. Another once in a generation talent is 16 years old Angelina Jordan from Norway. At the age of 6 and while travelling with her family in another country, she came across a shoeless girl who had a bathroom scale for people to weight themselves on in exchange for some coins. Angelina struck a conversation with that girl and without prompting from anyone in her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. That evening she wrote about that encounter in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind all of us about the many needy children around the world. 3 years later at the age of 9,she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. She was interviewed on TV about her book during the week when it was released, but just before the interview she performed a short version of “Unchained Melody”. Here are the links to that interview and her performance. th-cam.com/video/wPfMzMeBLbo/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/-cCLDY0CSZ8/w-d-xo.html I would very much appreciate if you react to both of these videos together. She also performed Summertime on the finale of Norway Got Talent. th-cam.com/video/443pBSpx5B4/w-d-xo.html And later on with an orchestra. th-cam.com/video/stwF4ti1tbc/w-d-xo.html She will have a very positive impact on you. LOL, he got you! Bobby was one of those rare people with PERFECT pitch. He could hit that high C note as few people, man or woman can do. You heard it at the end of "Unchained Melody". Bobby had the voice of an angel. Bill (the other one that did this intro) had a black man's voice in a white man's body, deep and raspy, Women, black and white, simply loved them.

You are spot on! Bobby's vocal range was awesome, so singing falsetto was not something he did or needed to do.
He was a counter tenor which allows him to have that high light sound.

Ella Fitzgerald was the original artist to sing this song
Ruby Elzy was the singer in the original Broadway production (1935) of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
@@kris6468 A 1937 recording is on TH-cam. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/CFCBba2UuWo/w-d-xo.html
I beg to differ. Check out "Snuff" by Slipknot. It will surprise you. Righteous Bros do have phenomenal voice talent, though.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful wonderful fantastic fabulous rendition of this song.
And this was before auto tune had been invented. Just incredible talent.
Got the Chills hearing Bobby again. This tune was over 50 years ago. My Sound Systems sound so Good now,
Thanks for a great reaction! This song is from Porgy and Bess, and it's been covered 34,000 times. So I knew it before I heard Bobby sing it. And his version is different, but he sure did have soul!
I am in my early 70 's i grew up listening to this music and it does my heart see a young person like reacting to this music 😊
Im older than most and have never seen that performance. It was incredible. Raw talent at its best. Thank you for sharing!
They brought an entirely new flavor of music to mainstream America. And we are all better-off for that.
I had never heard Bobby sing this song. It is not my favorite performance of his but he did it justice for sure. It is amazing when you know they performed live without digital correction.
Best yet from Bobby. They are all great but this is a masterpiece. Wow. Thanks for this.❤️❤️ 🎶
This is the first time I'm hearing Bobby do this. How does this man have SO much soul? He seemed to be lost in performance. Bobby is the greatest and we miss him so much.
Yes God gave every race talent and soul.
I adored Bobby Hatfield. May he rest in peace. They were usually invited to perform on other shows.
Absolutely brilliant I'm 69 and I've never heard this song thank you for this young man ❤
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this video or heard this song sang by Bobby before. He is awesome, nobody else can sing like that.
I'll be 67 this year, but my Sister would have been 77 years old & most of the 50's and 60's music I listened because I was always with her.
Everybody has a soul, but its altogether different when you got soul.
I LOVE your reaction and your keep saying Bobby! He really was an outstanding vocalist…I Love Love Love his voice!
God I LOVE❤ these guys. The goosebump!🎉 I am 59 and have loved them since I can remember❤

Bobby Hatfield, my favorite singer was a Contra-Tenor. Sally
A good introduction of information and inspiration.
Enjoyed your reaction so much! Thank you 😊 Righteous Brothers are timeless!
Bill doing Delta blues….Ot “B Side Blues” for both of them….😁

Thank you so much, didn’t know this song sung by Bobby , so fantastic
This is what they now refer to a blue eyed soul. But soul is soul and ain't got nothing to do with eye color and brother Bobby got soul.
If you no you no, legends.
I never saw this performance. Heaven! ❤❤❤
I’ve loved Bobby & Bill for decades! This great old song has been recorded by many artists, and the blue eyed soul brothers did it Justice ☮️💜💫💎
That's the "imma steal your girl" type of dude back in the days.
You can tell they were getting all the women lol
@@MMBxMOB we all know those "thousands of letters" were not from the dudes
This is so live !!!!! Your reaction is amazing .
Bobby IS the man .
@@MMBxMOB, old friends have indeed comfirmed they did 😉
It was SOPRANO opera style, in PORGY AND BESS (a lullaby)
First time I've heard this version
I like Billy STEWART'S version as well
Your reaction is priceless.
OMG I loved your reaction you just got yourself a new subscriber! Bobby was the best, one of a kind! ✌❤😎
Okay. That was unfreakinbelievable.
I'm another baby boomer that never heard that song.
BLEW ME AWAY!!!!
We RAN out of the room with you !
Love your reactions, darlin ' !
Your reaction made a depressed dude smile. Thanks. lol
Bobby’s talent is off the scale. Out of this world.
Bobby always packed a punch in the middle. He never disappoints.
That's the master of the Blue eyed soul...
Oh my! Thank you! I'm 56 and adore the Righteous Brothers! I've never heard this song!
Its really nice to watch and hear a beautiful poetic duo from about sixty years ago which would make me around 7.....I truly enjoy your videos and I am glad that these musicians are being appreciated again by the young you
Porky & Bess has some of the most fantastic songs covered by many many people
And what a wild story that is!
He got black soul...Amen!
That falsetto part before you stopped it literally sent chills up my spine - just wow
Your reaction is the best one ever. You didn't over react in a silly way but a comical way that was real for you. Thank you.
beautiful song, they were fantastic! I loved their music.
Oh so great, never seen this one of Bobby. Nearly blew my head off. Hahaha. Thankyou!
This is probably the most famous song (aria?) from the American Opera, Porgy and Bess. However, there are some other songs that became hits, as well. I believe Cab Calloway made a hit cover of "It Ain't Necessarily So."
Porgy and Bess is definitely worth a watch, if you have a few hours.
Now you know why it is called Blue eyed soul. Their talent is amazing
And that is blue eyed soul.
This was a great reaction from you but I had never heard this before and that was a treat in itself!
Great reaction. You did it justice. RIP Bobby

@@MMBxMOB My favourite by Bobby is Unchained Melody. Best voice and version of that song.
And Ebb Tide.. and Stay with me … and never walk alone… and … and … ❤❤
Just ran across ur vid, I know it's 9mos old but, I just had 2 comment on Bobby's voice.
I. Am. Dying. Here. Why haven’t I heard this version before? I love listening to them but haven’t heard this one. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Here are the links to that interview and her performance. th-cam.com/video/wPfMzMeBLbo/w-d-xo.html

I would very much appreciate if you react to both of these videos together. She also performed Summertime on the finale of Norway Got Talent. th-cam.com/video/443pBSpx5B4/w-d-xo.html
And later on with an orchestra. th-cam.com/video/stwF4ti1tbc/w-d-xo.html
She will have a very positive impact on you.
Angelina’s fans who she calls her Angels, will flood your channel with subscriptions and comments.
Thank you and keep up the good work from a new subscriber.
Thats the way counter tenors can sing . They hit the very high notes.
Actually, Bobby ended that live Unchained Melody sharp of G5.🔥

Each one did solos, but they still were together. Both could get down and funky.
