After sitting through about 5 other Osprey Porter reviews this was a PLEASURE to watch. It had everything I needed to help me finally choose this pack from the 5 or 6 others I've been reviewing.
Just picked this up yesterday based off of this video. Thank you for the great details. I'm a bigger guys, 6'3" 318lbs, and although this is a smaller pack (carry-on) it still fits comfortably, and it holds a ton. Great overview. Thanks!!!
Great review!! I need a new pack and I know that some of the airlines I will be using this will be too big. My first trip involves China in the Winter and Australia in the Summer where I am also going to be best man at a wedding, so I will need clothing and footwear for multiple weather, plus the wedding. I'm toying between this and the larger 65 version. Although quite like the new Transporter series too. Damn Osprey why you have to make so many great packs. Such a hard decision.
Thanks Jose! The Transporter Carry-On will be carry-on compliant (on US domestic flights) without adjustments, but the Porter 46 may need to be compressed a little if your airline is picky. The Transporter can be carried with a shoulder strap in addition to its harness and hipbelt, so it offers more versatility than the Porter series. If you plan on wearing the luggage primarily as a backpack, then the Porter 46 may be the better option. Hope that helps!
I noticed you had a small nylon bag that fits inside the pack - looks like it would hold socks/etc. - Do you recal who made this and what the size was?
Your skepticism is correct; it is not designed to stand on its end without tipping. If you pack with the weight to one end, it can be made to balance temporarily, but there is no kickstand or internal framing designed to keep it upright.
Is the laptop sleeve flexible enough to be able to fit a 15.4" laptop, even with a little bit sticking out, and would I be able to close it? It's just a matter of .4 inches, so I don't think it'd be a problem right?
Since this is the only one that qualifies as a carry-on comparing to the Farpoint or Porter 65. Does this bag come with a rain cover? I am going on a trip that there might be lots of rain and my current Osprey AG36 with the rain cover is super helpful.
Can you recommend a nice day pack that I would be able to attach onto it? I was comparing this backpack with the Osprey Farpoint 55, but am considering this one since it's a bit bigger.
+Michael Thanks for the question. Osprey makes the Daylite backpack which connects to the Porter for added versatility. You can check out that pack at our website here: www.backcountryedge.com/osprey-daylite-2013.html Thanks for watching!
The Porter 46 is built to meet the TSA guidelines for the largest possible domestic carry-on. We always recommend checking with your airline to ensure that the pack will fit. Thanks for watching!
I love the design but as a carry-on there is missing liter space because not taking advantage of the height and depth too much curved in the back...so sad because everything else is perfect...
It may just depend on your needs and the things you like and know. For me, this backpack is cramped with its unused fabric and padding room, overly heavy, and where does your water go? Do you have to take your pack off to get to your water, dislocate your arm getting to it? in effect making you buy a water bladder or bottle holder? both add weight and bottles flopping around on the outside of packs can be annoying. I'd say, it might be useful if someone is going to the airport and back and if so, its not shabby with all its padded compartment areas. But to actually travel to where you would need a "backpack",this wouldn't be the one for me. sorry for the late response.
I really like this backpack but I have seen too many people with this backpack anywhere around the world in airports and I hate someone have the same that's why I never got an iphone
Excellent job: long enough to be comprehensive, but no fluff. On point.

Shucks, thanks!
That's a pretty sweet bag. Seriously considering this for my 10-day Argentina trip in January 2018. Thanks!
Excellent narration and tour of the pack, thanks!

Does the Osprey porter 30 have those little snaps on the top of the shoulder straps you mention at around 1:30?
Great Review! I am looking at the Osprey Packs Transporter Carry On Luggage. Can you provide advice on which to invest in?

very informative. thanks very much.
Great video, Thanks... Kinda looks like it was filmed in a sauna :)
what's your opinion: porter VS farpoint?
I noticed you had a small nylon bag that fits inside the pack - looks like it would hold socks/etc. - Do you recal who made this and what the size was?
Will it stand up straight when full without tipping over? It looks a bit curved at the bottom which makes me doubt this...
Your skepticism is correct; it is not designed to stand on its end without tipping. If you pack with the weight to one end, it can be made to balance temporarily, but there is no kickstand or internal framing designed to keep it upright.
How thick is that pack? Domestic carry-on dimensions say 9" (22"x14"x9"). That looks way thicker than 9".

Hello i ordered one yesterday, but im confused it says Osprey porter 40 in my order, is it really 40 or 46 ?
is this available in india?
I am just asking if a large laptop (17") could be enter in the compartment ? Thanks
+Elydancelife Thank you for your question. Osprey advertises that a laptop of up to a 15" screen will fit into the designated sleeve.
i was at the outdoor store and used a large road atlas in the back its 17.5 in diagonal and it fit no problem

Thanks for the question. The Porter packs do not include a raincover. That is a separately sold accessory.
nice one!

Carry-on?? This bag?? On which air-line?
All of them, do it all the time.
@@sfanch me too
could I use this as a carry-on?
This pack does meet domestic airline carry-on standards in the US.
Does this fit as a carry on in an airplane?

Does anyone have experience putting this underneath the seat in American / Southwest airlines?
great review, obnoxious pack
Obnoxious in what way? Considering purchase and if you were unhappy with the pack I'd love your feedback.

Wait a second this Becky is a Stacey in disguise.
I (genuinely) suffer from ADD and the ad in the corner was distracting enough for me to stop watching at 1:36.
Thanks for the comment. The good news is that we don't use that little add anymore. You just happened upon one of our older videos. Cheers!
