    it's not as simple. there is definitely a possibility of people in countries other than your home country / country of residence responding to your song or your music in general a lot better than those residing in your country. there were instances where artists became hugely popular in Europe before they blew up in the US. Germany for one is known to have a lot of hard rock fans, Japan too. US has a lot of competition, much higher CPC, and overall I feel like there's a lot of ad fatigue here, some people are not as open to accepting emerging artists and new music.

    • @musicmarketing
      @musicmarketing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      for sure Japan and Germany have strong contemporary music audiences.
      Lou Pearlman broke every boy band he managed in Europe before transitioning to the US.
      That doesn't mean the trigger cities theory is correct.

    the truth is that people in those markets are more receptive to emerging artists, especially in POP music. so if you can build an audience off there and start touring there FIRST before signing to a major label to expand your business in the US and Europe then why not do it? the explanations in this video are myopic

    The one thing I learned at school that helps me every day is how to look at data and interpret it objectively as possible. Sadly, most people have never heard what a good research paper looks like and on the other hand, can't identify scientifically bankrupt clickbait articles like that one.

    I LOVE you guys!!! Such COMMON SENSE marketing about trying to build a fanbase in your own backyard. My rock band Circuline has sales in 23 countries around the world. Yet we still focus our marketing efforts on the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany. 1/3 of our fan base is in the United States. One third of our fan base is in the United Kingdom. The other third is spread out among all those other countries around the world. We picked Germany because it is the number three Market on the planet for us. So that is where we focus all of our marketing efforts, even though our genre is huge in Mexico and South America, and the ad spend is cheap. Not only might they not have the $20 to buy a t-shirt, but even if I sell them a CD for $10, it's going to cost probably $10 in postage. So now I'm asking those people who make $2 a day to spend $20 to get a CD shipped to their house!. Yes it is still difficult to tour in the United States even though we have over 15000 people on our email list. With 5,000 of those people in the United States, the US is still a big place to try to tour at this point. We continue to tour regionally in the Northeast, where the highest concentration of fans are, from Maine to Virginia, and as far west as Chicago and St Louis. Even though we have fans in the west and the South and the southeast and Texas and Florida, we have still not yet tried to tour there extensively. We have done a few one-offs shows, which was fun but not profitable.. We are continuing to move forward with our fifth product, our third studio album, with a virtual tour next year with a new video of content coming out every single week for an entire year, with single releases every six weeks culminating in the album release in the fall. We are very excited and proud and fortunate and lucky to be a part of the indepreneur community! You guys are awesome and there is nobody better! Keep it coming!😀🎹🎵🤟🎊

    On top of that, if you're not properly collecting your international mechanicals you're just spending money on international territories and not only NOT making an ROI but if you do get traction, you may not collect it properly. Agree it's best to focus on growing in your native country. Thank you for these gems!

      I have 2 campaigns that run for every ad. One with half the budget going to my home country (America), another with the other half of the budget split between the typical tier 1 countries you would see in your genre (example: I release techno so Germany, UK, and Poland are huge demographics for me).

    Great to see a critique based on scientific criteria, ty! However, if we are to stay in that realm, your claims on what to do instead seems as unfounded as the study of trigger cities that you criticize. At least, you don't offer any support for your position that you should focus on your local area first. Still the critique was good.

    What do you guys get paid per stream? I feel like im getting screwed from either my Distro or by Spotify..I had 2722 streams on one 1 day in the US. I received roughly $5 from that. that equated to about 0.0014c per stream...I was told by my Distributor that it depends what "specific artist Stream rate"you are on...What is that? Also depends if the listener is a subscriber or not...so we get less pay if our listener isnt subscribed...Why is there not a flat rate? Spotify just raised their subscription by $2 a month...That is an Extra $540Million per month (Extra) for Spotify but yet our artist pay rate didnt go up at all.. felling a bit scammed. I actually questioned Spotify about it and now it looks like my stream data has changed. to just a few plays a day, but on My Distributors site it says Im having 100's on the same day...what is gong on?

    • @musicmarketing
      @musicmarketing  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      You don't get paid per stream necessarily - your pay rate is based on the revenue that your streams actually represent.
      If your stream comes from a premium subscriber, then your payout is a portion of their subscription. Specifically, it is a portion of the part of their subscription that Spotify DOESN'T take. So Spotify takes part of that subscription fee, and the rest is put into a large pool. That large pool is then split amongst artists based on the streams their songs received during the period.
      If your stream comes from a free subscriber, then your payout is a portion of ad revenue generated. Specifically, it is a portion of the ad revenue that Spotify DOESN'T take. Spotify takes a part of the ad revenue, and the rest is put into a large pool...
      Not all premium subscriptions are the same. While I pay $16.99 for my Premium Family subscription, someone signing up today may get a discounted subscription because Spotify is running some promotion. Because they're paying less, you will get less...
      In addition to that, there are actually 3 different subscription tiers. Each tier gives you more users - and, as you go up in tiers, the per-user subscription fee gets smaller. So, I can have 4 users on my family account - thats $16.99 divided by 4, which is far less than the single-user subscription fee.
      In addition to THAT, and this is important:
      Spotify subscriptions are differently priced in different countries, generally depending on the local economy. A premium subscriber in Mexico pays $115 Mexican pesos, or about $5.58 USD - which is about 40% less than a US subscriber.
      Costa Rica pays $5.72.
      Romania pays $1.14.
      Switzerland pays $14.11.
      Turkey pays $1.40.
      Thailand pays $3.85.
      If you only get streams in Thailand, your streams will be worth, on average, about 70% less than an artist who only gets streams in the United States.

    I have only seen this being used when selling church products. Not with music though. 😂😂, These church guys realized that people in the US, UK, France have a high chance of viewing your product if it has social proof (alot of engagement on facebook, twitter, instagram, whatsapp etc). So what they would do is to post the promo video for the said product with a link to it and pay for advertising(sometimes used some of those free facebook ad credits back in the day) in the middle east, brazil and etc just to get alot of views, likes and comments. They would do this for 3 months. In those 3 months some how someway, they have about hundreds of thousands of views, comments and likes. THEN!! The boost those posts to the USA, UK, France and etc. They will start seeing return in investments.😂😂 This was in a country in Africa btw.
