I’m Circa and in addition to being the CEO of a music marketing education company and a marketing agency, Indepreneur, I’m also an independent musician myself. So, I don’t just help indies learn what to do in order to grow their fan base - I do it myself, too.
In this video you’ll see how our marketing strategies have pivoted and changed over the last two years, resulting in even more success for independent music marketing.
You’ll see a case study update on SOMEKIDPUNK, a new music project with absolutely no existing fan base prior to starting our marketing efforts. You can use these same strategies to grow your fan base, too. In a constantly changing and evolving music landscape, your marketing advice should probably evolve with it, right?
🌟What changed for artists trying to use advertising to grow their fan base since 2020🌟:
    • TikTok exploded onto the scene creating a brand new landscape for music discovery
    • Instagram leaned hard into vertical videos and leans much heavier on video content in general since TikTok rise to prominence
    • Facebook lost a large portion of its market share for the first time ever and started actually losing users
    • Apple iOS 14 Update all but killed advertisers ability to work in niche marketing, due to the new privacy settings
    🌟What we’ll learn in this video🌟:
    • Why you should focus on algorithmic Spotify playlists and not curated playlists
    • How the CEO of a successful music marketing company learned to pivot for continued success in growing his fan base
    • Why broad targeting marketing works and why niche marketing isn’t working so well anymore
    • How you can start using the same new strategies that are working for tons of independent artists today to grow your own fan base and music career

what i love about this approach is it operates under the assumption that your song is good, and you're just trying to get it in front of people who would WANT to hear it

As a general rule, that is what we should be trying to do. I just ran a Spotify playlist campaign for a friend out of curiosity. It was reasonably successful in terms of response. One reason for this is that I chose his most-streamed track. So I knew, rather than guessed, that it would hit some targets. However, we have yet to hit a playlist that makes any significant number of streams. It makes me wonder about the wisdom of directly promoting to Spotify upon release.

I just find out indie group got closed! And I wanted to ask - how you link your ads to open spotify app on mobile (normally links get you to CTA to install app even when you have one). I know some use music LP services or create deep link service

Did you get an answer to the question about how to get a link that doesnt prompt people to download Spotify when they already have it?
