Twenty-one. Twenty-one goddamned years old. That's how old Eddie Murphy was when they shot this, and from minute one he's so clearly a superstar. Young Eddie was something else, man.
I saw 48Hrs. opening night Dec/82 and it was an OMG moment! To witness someone become a Movie Star! No one disagreed.
It was like watching lightning strike right in front of you. You KNEW the world was about to change, and the 80s were the Eddie Murphy decade for action comedies.
Not to many people react to this. It's definitely a classic.
Another 48 hours is a underrated great sequel
@@MitchClement-il6iq 👍
There are a LOT of good movies that don't seem to get many reviews.
Too mofo
Like Running Scared(1986). Great buddy-cop movie!@@mikeh8416
911 wan't everywhere until the 90's. it was still more common to dial the operator in an emergency in the 80's
There's another movie you would like. Midnight Run starring Robert Deniro and Charles Grodin. Really good action and comedy movie !
A far better film than 48 Hours
So underrated! They have great chemistry.
I keep hoping someone (I watch) would react to that one. It’s a great movie.
Billy in this movie was Billy in "Predator", right?
You are rt!!
That's what I came to the comments to say... Billy is Billy! 😎
I've seen this movie probably 40 times and never noticed Eddy ("Reggie") wasn't cuffed in that scene @ 12:22.
continuity error
Me neither!!
Doesn't matter the point is what you said, anyone from the 80s has watched this movie 40x.
For me, the sequel is just as fun
The sequel is worth watching too. Never would imagine Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy being such a good duo but they really work well together.
"He called Build-a-Bitch."
I'm dead. 😂😂
Another 48hrs is even better
No...terrible movie.
Fun fact:
The police Captain is played by Frank McRae. He also played the captain in “Last Action Hero”, that was meant to be a comical parody of his role in this movie.
I thought that was him
He also played the foreman in Rocky 2 , at the meat house . And worked with Stallone again in Lock Up .
Great character actor, always.
He needs to watch Loaded Weapon 1, now!!!
Also, for the complete opposite Frank role *batteries not included.
I was surprised Jay didn't recognize him.
me too lol @@mraxlrose2959
48 Hours was Eddie Murphy's first movie after SNL made him famous, and made him a movie star. A little later he did a series of cop movies in Beverly Hills Cop, as a detective from Detroit in LA. They were big hits
The Golden Child too
Eddie Murphy becomes a movie star in the cowboy bar scene. The entire theater knew it when I saw it opening week.
Yes, Billy is from Predator. The loud police captain is also the loud police captain in the Arnie film "Last Action Hero". Ganz and Luther were both in the AWESOME movie "The Warriors" and Luther was also the main gang member in "The Crow".
Oh warriors, come out and plaaaay!!!
He also had small bit in Poltergeist.
And the blonde girlfriend is ST:NG's Yar.
@@bankbarcomo806 Bing Crosbys Grandaughter.😃
I can think of 3 movies actors in this were in with Arnold. Last Action Hero, Predator and Commando.
" The Boys are back in town. " " Yeah, Yeah , Yeah, Yeah! "
Mogambo is what I always thought Eddie was saying. Passion in Swahili.
Pretty sure you're right. 👍
Sonny Landham was an underrated actor in his day, today he'd probably be a major action star - he deserved more roles back in the day.
He was crazy, like legitimately crazy.
@fionnmaccumhaill3257 Yeah, I remember hearing he had a bodyguard that followed him around on Predator, a bit unstable 😳
25:02 when his brain pieced together the cadillac line 🤣
Man, you had me rolling laughing with the WHAT THE F DID HE say, like five times in three minutes.
Eddie Murphy saying “F**k You!” brought back tons of childhood nostalgia
😂
I graduated HS in '82, born in SF so I was close to this film. In retrospect, yeah, EM was still 'new' and this was an ensemble cast so he was still not quite a star. But this movie was huge at the time; all people talked about was him and it launched his career, Thanks for a hilarious and fun reaction.
OK, you gotta tell me then: how realistically possible was the cowboy bar in San Francisco in 1982? LOL
haha. Not even; the magic/silliness of hollywood. @@strivingtobalance
Thank you for this reaction. So few people watch Walter Hill directed movies and that is too bad. They are always full of action and he does use actors in more then one of his movies. Ganz and Luther (James Remar and David Patrick Kelly) both were in his movie "The Warriors". Another great movie of Walters is "Southern Comfort". An edge of your seat movie.
Walter Hill is the king of action! I love his movies. "Streets of Fire", "The Long Riders", "Extreme Prejudice", are all great Walter Hill movies as well. All his movies have killer soundtracks!
and was also one of the Cajuns in Southern Comfort@@Dave-hb7lx
I'm surprised you didn't catch that the police chief is the last action hero, that's the Cameo from here
I watched this before Last Action Hero - J
@@EOMReacts okay, then makes sense, for I've seen how you have uncontrollably used one of one of humans Best gift, laughter, that's why I'm suggesting serial Mom the movie . Great stuff
@EOMReacts
Check out "Midnight Run". You won't be disappointed.
@@fionnmaccumhaill3257 ya that's is also great stuff, Gordon's character is similar to the one in seems like old times
Classic movie. The bad Indian guy was in Predator. He was Billy the tracker.
Had me dying when you kept asking all the questions. "how long have you been a cop?" Do you like?" "do you have a dog" LOL love this movie, it's been awhile since I've seen it.
Luther was also in Commando as Sully. And Nick Nolte partner was also in Beverly Hills Cop.
Another 48 hours was a good sequel too.
Nick Noltes partner also in Tango & Cash, Ponytail.
Another 48 hours was horrid...
Chock full of damn fine character actors, but no better performance ever as "The Angry Police Captain" than Frank McRae. Never gave a bad performance. ❤ We lost him in '21 at 80.
The ‘Angry Police Captain’ was a stalwart of my childhood ☺️
When he hands him the zagnut. I had a Zagnut for the first time the other day. I’ve been missing out
Fun Fact.... For "Another 48 Hours" Nick and Eddies Salaries were flipped.... Their Careers were on a Teeter-Todder.....
That movie sucked so bad.
Mogambo (1953) Clark Gable big game hunter in Kenya.
Eddie loves old movies and is good at impressions of old stars.
If you want some fun check out Eddie's song off one of his albums - Boogie In Your Butt. 😂 Party All The Time was his biggest hit but he even had one with Michael Jackson and one with Snoop. ❤
Can't wait, before lethal weapon.
Only 50% of households had the 911 protocol by 1987.
Because we were friends with Smith & Wesson.
...and this came out in '82, and I'm pretty sure the clerk had a rotary. Tapping the cradle to get an emergency operator was still a thing (especially from a crappy hotel with an old commercial phone system).
Funny too is you always had to answer the phone, very few answering machines back then and it could be an emergency. Now no one answers their phone.@@PuffyCloud_aka_puffeclaude
St. Paul MN didn't get it until 1989. We all had stickers on the phones with police and fire numbers up until then.
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Jonathan Banks " Mike from BB " is also in Beverly Hills Cop.
Truly one of the great cop/buddy action films out there. The studio originally wanted to Clint Eastwood and Richard Pryor for the roles, and honestly I would LOVE to see that version of 48HRS. I still enjoy Another 48HRS just a little more though.
Ok now I’ve got to find Delirious and Raw and re watch them. Eddie was the best in the 80’s for being in his 20’s!
Just realized Luther also played Luther in Warriors!
Now, that was a good one back in the day. "Warriors... come out to playyyy"
He also played Sully in Commando, which has a similar musical score to this.
Best line... "she shakin' her imagination, cuz there ain't nothin' back there!"
This was fun. J, you had me cracking up so m🎉any times. Nick Nolte and Frank McRae (the Captain) are in another movie together that came out the same year as this one. It's a long forgotten movie that I like very much, the movie is Cannery Row. Oh, Debra Winger is in it also.
The sequal..another 48 hrs is a good film as well!
Not really😂😂😂
@@ploppill34Yeah it is.
@@ZACH_95_that movie sucked so bad...
Like the second one too
We need that director cut version
I was an SNL fan day one in 1975, I was 11. When the OG cast left the show everyone thought it was over. Eddie Murphy single handedly saved that SNL. Everything he did was comedy gold!
I saw 48Hrs. opening night back in Dec/82. I was already a Nick Nolte fan from "Rich Man, Poor Man" a classic mini-series and a great movie called "The Deep", which I highly recommend, written by the same guy who wrote Jaws. I was so excited to see Eddie in his first movie. I remember thinking "I hope Eddies funny". Well I didn't see Eddie. I saw Reggie Hammond and a movie star being born. A very cool thing to witness. Oh ya this guy is a movie star! Hats off to Nick Nolte for not being bother at some young talent who will steel the lime light, but using that talent to work off.
Nick play Gates just like he should be. 48Hrs. is a master class in chemistry. Watch this movie again look closely at Nick's and Eddie's body language. They are performing a dance. I've watched this movie many times. They are so good together! Great bad guys too! I think Nick really punched Luther.
Another great buddy cop movie from the 80s is "Running Scared". Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Again a master class in chemistry. Gregory Hines died to young at 57 in 2003. He was one of the greatest dancer of all time. On TH-cam watch an old tv special with Gregory Hines and Steve Martin tap dancing. So much talent.
Same. I mean, exactly man. Staying up late on Saturdays as a kid when that came on, my parents already in bed not understanding my obession at all.
This was a banger for sure. Good chemistry and both actors nailed it. And Yes , Reggie definitely won the fist fight.
ABOUT TIME SOMEONE WATCHES THESE!! ❤❤❤ Thank you 😊
I can’t think of one, but I think this may be the very first cop buddy movie that started in the 80s.
Earliest one I can think of is The French Connection - Roy Scheider and Gene Hackman - but that was '71 (and not a comedy).
@@ornotgortwormiii8731 yeah, but you you know what I mean by “cop buddy movie”.
I can't believe it took JL so long to realize that Billy in this was Billy from 'Predator'. "The sniff the dirt dude". LOL 😂
This is my favorite eddie Murphy movie of all time
“She’s shaking her imagination” killed me lol
A milestone in modern action comedy. 👍
This fast-paced, exciting and very funny action thriller by Walter Hill launched the cinema career of TV comedian Eddie Murphy ("Saturday Night Life") and made the fast-talker one of the highest-paid Hollywood stars. Murphy celebrated his greatest success in 1984 with the action comedy "Beverly Hills Cop"
Nolte and Murphy are terrific. 🤩
@JL One of my top 50 flicks of all time and my 2nd favorite Eddie Murphy film so gritty grimey and raw. Your usual banter and discussion were smile inducing. There is a 2nd film to this but it was not as well done, directed, or scripted. Much
Omg haven’t been here in so long. Good to see another great reaction
Zagnut is a good bar for vending machine fare
And since you like that band in the bar scene,
look into these 80's rock band based films that are awesome.
Eddie And The Cruisers
Streets Of Fire
both soundtracks are insanely good
Eddie Murphy is an all time great. The range and ability of Jerry Lewis. Started on Saturday night Live when he was 17. Started doing movies, by 20. And he was in 3 movies that changed everything..... comedy, buddy movies, buddy cop movies, soundtracks, race relations, u name it. Trading Places, this, Beverly hills cop.
20:33 This movie is chock full of people who later on went to higher profile roles.
The blonde girl is Denise Crosby granddaughter of Bing Crosby. A few years later she played Lt. Tasha Yar on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Jack’s girlfriend is played by Annette O’Toole who played Martha Kent on Smallville.
Jack’s fellow cop is played by the late Brion James. He played the replicant Leon in BladeRunner.
Prior to this James Remar (Gantz) and David Patrick Kelly (Luther) played in the cult classic movie The Warriors. That film was also directed by Walter Hill. A few years later, Kelly played Sully in Commando. Remar has had a long career playing tough guys on both sides of the law.
The late Sonny Landham went on to play the scout Billy in Predator
And the mom in Pet Semetary.
Frank McRae played the same character in Last Action Hero, it's hilarious watching him scream at everyone.
The band is the Bus Boys. They stopped in at a club I was playing at and played a couple of songs with my band. Pretty cool.
The actor who played Billy was so notoriously violent in reality that film insurance companies required him to be appointed a bodyguard during filming to protect other people from him.
Glad you liked this one. People forget just how good this movie is! And you can certainly see a bit of Axel Foley in Reggie.
Absolute banger of a movie !
its so crazy that luther is in the crow and john wick and looks so different in all of them
This movie has a The Warriors reunion with Gantz and Luther.
#48hours
Oooo u loved Beverly hills cop ur gunna love this buddy cop film 🎉
I always loved this movie and the second one
In 82 I would have been 16/17 when this came out, and I did see it. That scene introducing Murphy is legendary for the entire decade. Whenever anyone sang Roxanne, you no longer though of The Police, but you thought about Reggie Hammond sitting in that chair singing it throughout the prison.
48 Hours is an immensely satisfying movie. Although, even in 1982 I can in no way see that cowboy bar in San Francisco being a thing unless is was ironic and gay.
But yeah, this movie cemented Murphy as a god damned presence in 80s American culture. He and Nolte have amazing chemistry together as two guys who do not fucking like each other but begrudgingly respect the hell out of each other. That fight scene is right up there with the fight scene from They Live as great 80s fight scenes.
I love the old Eddie laugh it's the best I wish he brings it back for his up coming Beverly hills movie.
I love the hell out of your reactions! You crack me up 🤣 when he was ordering the Indian woman… you said “is that racist”? 😂
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks!!!! 👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
Great pick Jay. Great movie, I understand why this isn't reacted to by other channels more often
'Shakin her imagination' omg ☠
For anyone who's a fan of Twin Peaks, Hank Jennings was one of the cops who interrupted the fistfight between Jack and Reggie.
Hope you do the sequel also. For most people it's not as good but I still like it
I think it’s even better 😜
I didn't even recognize Mike from "Breaking Bad" until you mentioned it.
This is a fantastic movie, one of my favourites, and my fave Eddie Murphy Film too, he is brilliant in this film, and i think he was 21 here?! It’s a superb performance.
First discovered you when you did cross-overs with Kaiielle (which were awesome). Then I noticed this Classic that seems to fly under a lot of folks' radar.
Cheers, Happy Weekend, and...Subscribed! 🥃☮❤
The Indian dude also in predator. A true crazy man, he typically had to have 2 security guys on his movie sets....to keep him out of trouble!
I just hit the like 👍
I really enjoy your Reactions to these all these Movies 💯 The Last Samurai is my Number 1 Favorite Movie, that was a great Reaction. And this one also lol You're awesome man 💯
28:50 This actress is Olivia Brown who played Trudy in Miami Vice
Fun fact: The loud mouth police chief played by Frank McRae also played a similar loud mouth police chief in Arnold Schwarzenegger's film Last Action Hero. He was a more exaggerated version in Arnold's film.
48 Hours made Eddie Murphy a star!
Fun movie!
In the 80s, Casio was the poor man's Rolex! 😂
When Nick first came out, I think in Rich Man Poor Man....he was THE it boy! He was Brando/Dean #2. Then Hollywood kinda ate him up, specially with drinking and partyin. But he still started in a great list of movies, 70-90s, even some big ones past that. Tropic thunder, Tides, Frailty, and others. Part 2 of this is pretty good as well.
This and the next one are two of my favorite movies.
can't wait for THE DESCENT!
Yeah i would also love to see J react to that movie it so good.
OK I think you have reached that moment where you can watch Last Action Hero now.
Actor James Remar(Ganz) also plays Ajax in the movie The Warriors(1979). I would recommend that movie too.
The police Captain is Frank McRae, he was in Canary Row with Nolte which was a classic as well.
Another early Eddie Murphy comedy, maybe his second after this being the first.. is trading places with Dan Aykroyd. Just a pure gem of hilariousness. every time I comment I have to tell you how much I love your channel. Enjoy it and enjoy you and your doggies tons.❤️🙏
Appreciate it! And Trading Places is already on the channel
Nick also played the crazy Vietnam vet with the fake claws i." TROPIC Thunder "
18:35... WAAAAIT!! The bartender!!^^ Is that the cop dude from The Equalizer?
I can always tell the difference between Nick Nolte and Gary Busey by remembering this simple mathematical equation. Nick Nolte + GHB = Gary Busey, which can also be solved in reverse as, Gary Busey - Motorcycle Accident = Nick Nolte
P.S. 12.25 Dude, excellent continuity error catch! I've seen this movie at least 50 times, and even noticed that shot of course, but it didn't occur to me. Nice catch! 16.47 I'd subscribe twice if I could. Dude, you are *killin* me! 🤣🤣🤣 26.40 Eddie was so taken with The Busboys that he took them out on tour with him when he did his immortal "Delirious" tour. I've still got that one memorised. Great video, dude!
The violin is called a fiddle when played with folk or country music. Violin when it's more classical.
Every time I see your dog I will here him speaking in Nick Nolte's voice.😂
Another 48 Hours is up there with Lethal Weapon 2 where the sequel actually outdoes the original.
That band opened up for Eddie Murphy's concerts.
"Uuuuh, Luther that looked painful"
This is love, I can't rewind
now u have to watch another 48hrs nice react
"Ask him little kid questions". Lol...that's awesome.
Ain't even gonna lie. That's the shit i'd be doin too.
The guy who played Luthor (David Patrick Kelly) is the same guy who played Sully in Commando (1985, you've seen/reacted it). The guy who played Albert Ganz, (James Remar) has been in tons of movies and TV series, usually playing the bad guy. And, OF COURSE, you should recognize Sonny Landham (Billy Bear) from Predator (also playing a character named, Billy). We see Johnathan Banks (Algren) teamed up with Eddie Murphy 2 years later in Beverly Hills Cop.
Why didn't they call 911 ??? Because it wasn't available nationally for many more years, and the script was quite probably even written years before the movie was made, so it didn't make sense for the people who made the movie to include it, since many would not recognize it as "normal"
