My mini cyclamen refuses to go dormant, I give up. 😂 Just when the original leaves started yellowing, new sprouts came in waves the very next week. Now they put on the best bloom show since they were gifted to me in February. I leave the flowers be to form seeds. I don't have a lot of flower houseplants so I'm happy with how my cyclamen turns out.
As a side update, my mandevilla also took off the last two months and now she's full of new shoots and flowers. It took 3 months for the plant to recover from her pruned state. Even without much direct sun and the temperature average is about 23 to 10°, I think she's finally acclimated. I have learned a lot of good tips from you, so I just wanted to share.

If you stop watering it - it'll soon get the idea! 😂 Glad to hear about your Mandevilla - it's a lovely plant.

Liked this! I will try and keep mine under the bench in the tunnel in the summer - if it dies no great shakes!

They’re cheap enough but it’s very satisfying to take one through dormancy and have a bigger tuber and therefore bigger plant each year. 😁

Glad to see another video Geoff! I can never get these to live long. Yup, dormancy issues. Just HOW much water are we talking about? An ounce per say a 4" pot? Would bottom watering be better than top so the roots sense it? These things drive me NUTS!

I just give enough to prevent desiccation. Once the media starts to pull away from the side then I’ll bottom water just to reverse it. Sometimes they still die! The bigger tubers are better. These small ones don’t have as many resources obviously. If I can see leaves of any size then I hold off the water. This is what’s worked for me but I’m still learning through experience. 😀

Wonderful! I’ve just returned from Dubai where it was 47 degrees Celsius! Just too hot to even go out. But I’m back underneath the miserable cloudy skies again. Although I can’t deny it’s nice to be able to walk outside again. 🤣

Hi I was wondering what are signs that it has started to go dormant? I purchased one a month ago and it has gotten new flowers almost every day until last week it all drooped down and shriveled up. I checked the tuber and it is hard still. Has dormancy begun?

Dormancy isn't a usually sudden thing - the plant gradually slows down flowering, and the leaves slowly turn yellow. Could it be you've left it too long between watering? They can wilt easily. Dormancy naturally occurs during the summer - but as most people are growing hybrids, and very often hybrids that have been manipulated, dormancy can be erratic until it settles down into a more natural rhythm. Providing you're sure it isn't just too dry, then I would accept it's going dormant, however erratically it might be doing this, and I'd then water just enough to prevent the media from shrinking away from the sides of the pot, put somewhere less bright and then leave it to it till autumn.

When everything dies off in autumn they’re a life saver for colour! Maybe worth another try! 😁
