Be careful with monkeys, don't get to comfortable around them, they can be really tricky and annoying. Enjoy all the food you can, and when they tell you that something is not spicy, probably it is, but you should learn that in Mexico.

Delhi has everything, ancient Indus Valley ruins on the outskirts, other ruins all over dating from 6th century BC, old delhi is the medival chaotic area, not all of Delhi is like that. New Delhi area is more spaced out and very green. South Delhi very middle class with lots of great restaurants, bars and shops. Gurgaon and Noida has the big modern shopping malls and cyber hub. You can easily get away from the noise and chaos in so many places like asola in south delhi or the central ridge etc
More tourists need to explore more of Delhi not just paharganj and old delhi, which are interesting but do not represent all of Delhi. I would recommend staying in Jorbagh, Sunder Nagar or Golf Links, all central locations but quiet residential areas, personally l think it helps staying in middle class suburb areas, good to return after whole day on the street

I've been to India 8 times and New Delhi is my least favorite city in India. I avoid it like the plague especially in late autumn/early winter when the air becomes toxic due to inversion layers covering the Delhi area. If you're planning your first visit to India, I recommend visiting the south as it is less crowded than the north. The stereotype of India being dirty, crowed, with hundreds of mendicants in your face is because of the north. Southern India is not like that. Kerala is a perfect place to visit India on a first trip. You could also visit Sri Lanka instead of India. Sri Lanka is like India only it's cleaner, with less people, and the visa is free for Americans and Brits, whilst an India electronic tourist visa is ~$80.

    The New Travel,
Be prepared and buy yourself a pair of sandals for days when visiting tombs and temples and mosques. You'll be asked to remove your shoes when you visit South Asian holy sites. Sandals are easily removed and stuck in a plastic bag and put into your backpack. Also, your feet will be cooler. It is now summer in India and will be getting hot!! Lucky for you (assuming you are still there), it is also mango season! Try as many varieties as you can, there are lots. :)

That's how you get a ton of illnesses. Also, too spicy. Better to find someone to make it at home and custom-made for your spice levels. Also, props to you for jumping in! Many or most Hindus don't know their Sanatana Dharma . As per it, once you born as human, you don't go back to take birth as animals. It's soul evolution unlike Darwin's theory. Once, your soul take birth as human , then it's upto you to do your karma properly to attain moksha. So, feeding pigeons is not for next birth , but it's sign of compassion even to animals. That's why hindus don't eat any non veg. during religious festivals.
