@@starlinguk Me too! My grandma would always tell me about it, but I thought I was too cool for this movie until my music teacher played a clip of it in class. I fell in love instantly.
One of my favorite movies Julie Andrews is always a pleasure To watch in what ever movie she appears in A real charming lady She has the grace and style of a real lady No snobby or full of airs and graces and looking down on people
I loved "The Sound of Music" so much when I was growing up. I remember watching it every Christmastime with my mother, and we both agreed that Liesel was way too good for Rolfe, on account of him abandoning her to join the Nazis, and selling out the family when they're making their escape in the climax. Tunes I adored were "Sixteen going on Seventeen", "Lonely Goatherd", "My Favorite Things" and "So Long, Farewell", both during the party scene and when it's used as a diversion so allow the Von Trapps to flee from the Nazis.
I got so happy when I found out my school is doing Sound of Music for our musical this year! Sound of Music was the first musical I ever watched and first ever movie I watched in my life. This movie has such a warm place in my heart
This is the movie that started my love of musicals; it was the first musical I watched. Mom showed it to me when I was about 5, and it's still one of my favorites. I've always preferred the movie to the stage show. It was such a defining experience as a kid.
Yes, every time I go to Salzburg people are singing songs from the movie and I also love seeing Mozart everywhere. It’s such a beautiful city, I usually go every summer because Austria is too beautiful to resist
I still always listen to Edelweiss every once in a while, more often than you think! Honestly my personal favorite song!! So sweetly sung & shown in the movie!! ^.^
I disagree with most of these picks, my list is 1-Something Good 2-Edelweiss 3-Climb Every Mountain 4-The Sound of Music 5-Sixteen Going on Seventeen 6-My Favorite Things 7-I Have Confidence (but if How Can Love Survive was in the movie, it would be here) 8-Sixteen Going on Seventeen Reprise 9-So Long, Farewell 10-Maria
My top 10: 10. Edelweiss 9. Climb every mountain 8. I have confidence 7. Something good 6. So long farewell 5. Sixteen going on seventeen 4. The lonely goatherd 3. My favorite things 2. The sound of music 1. Do re mi
Such a good movie, first musical I ever saw and still obsessed with every song. Whenever it’s really late and I’m walking alone home I sing “my favorite things” in my head and it literally gets better. This movie has made me happy when I’m sad, cheered me up when I’m upset, and honestly got me closer to my grandparents. I own so much to this film and to Julie Andrews, if anyone dares to say anything bad about it, beware.
I’ve seen the Sound of Music six times. My favorite songs are the title song, Maria, My Favorite Things, Do Ri Mi, Lonely Gothard, Edelweiss, So Long Farewell, Climb Every Mountain and Something Good! Beautiful movie indeed
The Lonely Goatherd is my favorite! It’s so much fun to sing and listen to! I also love it so much because you can hear and see how much fun Julie has singing it!
The hills are alive with the Sound of music With songs they have sung for a thousand years my heart wants to sing every song it hears my heart wants to beat like wings of the birds that rises from the lake to the trees my heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze to laugh like a broke when chips and falls over stones on its way To Sing Through The Night Like a lark who is learning to pray I go to the hills when my heart is lonely I know I'll what hear what I heard before my heart will be blessed with The Sound of Music and I'll Sing Once More
Beautiful movie, music, and story...a classic for the ages. Do Re Mi is my personal fav! I had the privilege to see the modern Broadway adaption of the musical. Once the tour got to Toronto anyway. They did this cool effect with the floor in the opening number and at the end to represent the Swiss Alps! The entire stage floor was a huge mechanical overlay. It would tilt forward for the overhead effect of the beginning with Maria. And it tilted backwards at the part where the family reached the crest of the mountain range at the end...the final sight before the lights dimmed to pitch black was of the family at the top of the stage mountain, pointing down excitedly to freedom below as the music reached it's crescendo...it was breathtaking. The music really shines when sung/played live. I recommend seeing the stage musical if you have a way to! Well, maybe. It might be a really hard thing to watch for some. The Sound of Music is a joyful story for the most part but the eventual invasion is harder to be detached from live. Which is not surprising. Serious Warning for people thinking of going to see it: the competition scene is intense in the live musical. This is the part of the story where the N*zis have succeeded in invading Austria. Within 30 seconds of the scene starting, the entire theatre was draped in N*zi flags including a giant one that unrolled across the ceiling. The effect carried the weight it intended, you could've heard a pin drop in the audience. It was the most unnerving and sobering experience I've ever had from a live performance. Once the singing started, the set pieces ceased to be the main focus. But seeing such a symbol of horror out of the corner of your eye while watching the Von Trapp family sing goodbye to their country; getting ready to defy the N*zis... It really immersed you in that dread and fear. And I'm one of the people that wouldn't have been targeted by them in that time. It doesn't have the same threatening context that it would for someone else in the audience. So yeah, the musical is a lovely masterpiece for sure! But know that it may not be the thing for you in the grand scheme of things.
My top ten: 1. Do Re Mi 2. Sound of Music 3. Edelweiss 4. Favourite Things 5. So Long Farewell 6. Climb Every Mountain 7. The Lonely Goatherd 8. Sixteen Going on Seventeen 9. Maria 10. I have Confidence

When I was little "Do-Re-Mi" actually WAS used as a teaching tool in music class. Brings back memories.
I learned it at school long before I saw the movie!
@@starlinguk Me too! My grandma would always tell me about it, but I thought I was too cool for this movie until my music teacher played a clip of it in class. I fell in love instantly.
Izzy Dracula The song was how I discovered the movie in a piano class I did in 3rd grade
That was how we learned scales in music class!
We learned it in Drama class. Mrs.Kufchak taught us the scales. One of my favorite memories!
Edelweiss has to be one of the most beautiful songs to be featured in a movie.
Yess
Edelweiss is my favorite song in the movie. It’s amazing
Of course! It represents freedom!
One of my favorite movies
Julie Andrews is always a pleasure To watch in what ever movie she appears in
A real charming lady
She has the grace and style of a real lady
No snobby or full of airs and graces and looking down on people
She is such a queen❤
Leon Lipschitz My favorite characters of hers are Mary Poppins Cinderella and Queen Lillian in the Shrek movies
Leon Lipschitz and she is so diversed as an actress! And truly talented lady
Indeed, like many Hollywood golden age actors and actresses. They were so classy 😍

To God no less
Em my they were living in the 2010s in the 60s 😂

Edelweiss was the last song Rogers & Hammerstein wrote together. Such a gentle song being their last one makes it a little emotional to hear.
LadyNancyDrew Pretty spot on for the Sound of Music’s bittersweet ending. Isn’t it?

Edelweiss deserves to be higher imo
Agreed!
They put 16 going on 17 over it. I'm sorry but WHAT
Currently playing Mother Abbess. I did not spend months mastering the high A-flat to see Climb Every Mountain get snubbed like this.

When I was in school choir Do Re Mi was a song we’d sing regularly to help us with singing up and down scales. Thanks Sound of Music ❤️
For a movie almost 55 years old it still brings joy to see and here the singing.
I love a lot of the songs in this movie but Edelweiss has to be my absolute favorite
Who else has a copy of the movie in high quality?
