Final Sound Test:
• Neo65 with Oil Kings (...
Neo65, Brass Weight, Alu Plate
Oil Kings Stock
PBTFans Golden
PCB Gasket Mounted
Stock Stabs (DG + 205g0 + clipped the little dongs under the stems ✂️)
No Foam* / All Foams (PE, Case, Plate)
= in the "no foam" config, i didn't screw the plate to the pcb, but i did for the "all foams." i personally dont think it'd make much a difference anyway, but that's just me~
Personal Notes ✨:
the daughter board being under the weight it neat, but you need to release the ribbon cables every time you disassemble--and it's too tricky to unclip it on the pcb side without ripping it out--so you have to unscrew the weight every time. i'd rather the daughter board just be in the case traditionally for easier access.
mine didn't come with a phillip head screwdriver :( you only needed the hex head anyway so it was fine--but keep that in mind in case you lost ur PH0 screwdriver like i did and was hoping to get a new temp one 😔
i know there isn't a fantastic way to do this, but it took sooo long to find the json file. could i have found it before building the board to minimize stress? yes ofc. but it wasn't in the qk discord or the notion page. it was on the qk website under the downloads tab. now tbf, that sound self-explanatory, but a link to this tab on the actual product listing page would've been neat 🙏
i didn't test the gummy o-ring since i don't like using them for client builds. they're simple, but corner switches holding the o-ring's shape isn't ideal for the average consumer. and i personally don't like using them on 65%'s with a blocker--it feels awkward. but i agree in that in general gummy o-ring mounts have a more well-rounded sound (again, **in-general**). maybe i'll try with a 60% another time~
my overall thoughts? i like the fully foamed out config more, in person it's actually not too "PE-foamy." i did actually enjoy no foam, especially in person, it just sounded a little too thin for me. i'm actually a big fan of no-foam builds and i lean towards the idea of "if you bought an expensive keyboard for it's sound characteristic, you shouldn't then alter it with foam." BUT, if you like foam and PE foam, then use them! i don't care, and other's shouldn't either--it's YOUR keyboard! hell, one of my favorite client builds was Box Jades in a Simple60 (it was so much fun!) so don't think about it too much and don't let snobby keyboard nerds get to you. enjoy that Ducky you lubed for 7 hours and put tape on!

Keyboards A and B were.....
🎉 A: All Foams, B: No Foam! 🎉
which one did you like better? :)
a little random i know haha, workin on the Star Rail vid tho and another BA vid 🫡
didn’t realize A would be with foam, I actually prefer that one xd
we love foam we love foam
agreed with your thoughts, sounds a bit thin without foam.
for me it was just the weak spacebar, which i actually fixed with 2 layers of tape under it and now i quite like it :)
Ik this is 3 months old but oil kings sound pretty muted and average at stock imo due to the factory lube no matter how good your kit is, i would at least clean, relube and film them. They sound way better afterward.
that's fair, i don't mind the stock oil king experience with the right board. i enjoy gateron's factory lube these days; even though hand lubing and filming is best to maximize it, i'd rather have gotten inks at that point and been even more happier. i like oil kings, it's the stock switch for most people :)
if i got a rainy75 and a qk65 is it worth to get this too?
if you have those two, you can probably skip it unless you're looking for another color-way to collect :)
time to foam mod
This might sound stupid but does it sound like this in real life, i would just like to be sure it sounds this good :)
it's been a while since i've had it, but i'd say so yes! at least in my experience
It’s a more clacky board it sounds like. Config B didn’t sound bassy, just muted.
we enjoy the clacks around here 😎
Hmmm.....mine does NOT sound that good with oil kings. I have some cherry hyperglide blacks on the way now to see how those sound
have you tried different foams? i ended up liking no foam, but a couple strips of tape beneath the spacebar (in an updated sound test)
So I did try a few different configs with different switches. Right now I have plate foam and switch foam (no case foam), cf plate, and gateron baby racoons.
I ordered the aluminum plate and also have the pc plate if I want to try those, and if I dont like any of those im gonna return the cherries and get some gateron cj’s.
Are you using the switch and plate foam in the foamless build?
crazy man, yum yum
I have all foams installed in my Jris75 and even tape. Why does my keyboard sound like your sound with no foams and not like all foams installed. Makes no sense...
Where can i buy this keyboard?
www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo65-的副本 for US. be sure to check below for the vendor of your region!
How is the volume on the alu plate?
by "volume" do you mean how loud it is? i'd say it's more on the medium-ish volume side--not too loud, at least with oil kings
Super underated channel 🔥Keep up the great work
thank you, fellow ikuyo gang
Fellow bocchi the rock gang
that sounds and looks so good!! i got the same color, cant wait!!
the red is sooo nice--it's nice and vibrant in person! hopefully you enjoy it:)
How does it sound? Is it as good as people say it is? And is it hollow or pingy without any foams?
@@zanealcazar5579 i love mine, its great with and without foam. no ping/hollowness either. the board tends to have a higher pitch (even with foam) if that is something you like. anodization is on point too.
@@ndetavykp Would you say without foams it would be as good or even better than the salvation wilba tech?
😭😭😭
💢💢💢
Foam just makes everything sound so much more full
