  • I visited San Angelo, a city of 100,000 people in rural West Texas. It's a nice town, with an impressive collection of street artwork and water lillies. In the beginning of the video, I visit Uvalde, Texas, where an impressive memorial has been set up.

San Angelo is my hometown and I have lived here nearly all of my life. It’s a lovely city to raise a family. The downtown area and Ft. Concho are both wonderful places to visit. The water lily ponds are amazing too. The rock work in this park was done after the war. I love visiting this area of town. The Texas Movie Theater has great memories. Saw lots of movies in the late 50’s and 60’s in this theater. I love hearing the church bells ringing. They ring everyday at noon.

It always surprises me seeing all of these videos that pop up on my feed about San Angelo! It's never seemed like a town that stands out much to me as I have lived here all of my life; but I am always happy to see visitor's point of views on our town 😊It can be hard to find new places to visit in San Angelo after you've been here for a while but the events that are held are well worth the wait! I always love stopping by the Chicken Farm Art Center to support and view local art and listen to the live music!

Well i have lived here most of my life..the places you showed are good places to see but there's sooo much more than just that. San Angelo is a strange mix...college town..military town...retirement town..its a large town with small town mentality. People are friendly...something i didn't understand til i moved away a few brief times. It is the kind of town where you can walk down the street and make eye contact with someone and say hello to the stranger and they don't shrink away in suspicion..they will greet you in kind. Its an excellent place to raise kids...new kids are welcomed not excluded..also a lesson learned. Overall San Angelo is worth visiting..or moving to.

Thank you for this video. I was stationed at Goodfellow in 1973-74, none of this beautifully preserved/restored stuff was there when I was. I remember San Angelo as a sleepy old West Texas town where the people were SO friendly, despite (what I thought was) its shabbiness. I used to leave the base just about daily to eat, I remember a little diner on Chadbourne where they served the best biscuits & gravy on the planet. I bought my first pair of cowboy boots here, and still remember the friendliness of all the people I met. Thanks again, the modern San Angelo is beautiful, thank you for highlighting it in your vlog. They must have spent a lot of money on beautifying downtown and the riverwalk in the last 50 years.

You went by M.L. Leddy's Boot store in San Angelo, I got my first boots in 1963 there. I was 6 years old. My Dad always had them to custom make his boots their! It brings back good memories. I was born at Shannon Hospital in 1957 there and went to ASU there in the mid-1970's. Lots of good memories! Thanks Joe!

Just googled San Angelo as you were looking at the car's, see that it's geographically
right in the heart of Texas. San Angelo is drawing me in, so much I like about it. The history and vibe reminds me somewhat of Prescott AZ, a Western Town back in the day full'of brothels, saloons and gunslinger's. Great narrative and video talent, Lord Spoda.

The closest town to the geographic centre of Texas is Brady, county seat of McCulloch county.

@@jmcosmos you are correct, Brady is closest to the center of Texas. San Angelo is in Tom Green County, Concho County is between Tom Green and McCulloch. Brady is about an hour and a half drive away.

You should visit the pop art Museum here if you ever return. It was once a bowling alley but it got struck by lightning twice then it was graffitied and people ended up turning it into what we now know as the pop art Museum! Also visit paintbrush alleyway if you ever get the chance! It's wonderful! I'm proud to be a resident of this town :)

If you ever find yourself back in San Angelo, I'd suggest visiting Pop Art Alley, which is also downtown. There's some neat works of art there, some done by myself and other art students at the university. The art museum is a great place to visit too!

It's not feminine to want to see the water lilies. You're just sharing it with your fans and viewers! I'll never go there and see it, so thank you. I've also never seen the Uvalde Memorial, nor will I. Such a senseless tragedy, but also such a beautiful tribute.

I heard you say you are making your way to Gulfport. There’s some great places to eat but they are out of the way. I live in Long Beach. If you enjoy seafood this is the place. But your right there are towns in Mississippi that time has forgotten unfortunately. Years ago I went to a town up in the northeast of Mississippi. I was amazed that people even lived there. It was definitely a place that time has forgotten. Armory, Mississippi

Mary Mahoney’s Old French house and McElroys Harbor House in Biloxi are places to hit up.
Dan B's Restaurant & Bar In the Bay has an excellent breakfast.
Dempsey's In the Kiln is our go to seafood place. More bang for the buck. Be careful what you order. You will be taking food home with you.. Cuz’s in the Bay. Never had a bad meal there. Harbor view in LB is spot on but can get loud dining inside. Bacchus On The Beach in The Pass has it all. Excellent specials. Downtown Gulfport has some good dining places. The Chimneys Restaurant, Salute Italian Restaurant. Check out menus cause there’s a couple places that are pricey. Just depends on your budget.
      Crawfish is out of season.

Lover of water lilies? Of course! Your videos have made it plain that you're a romantic at heart (Nature, old buildings and out-of-the-way, time-forgotten places). The building behind the closed theatre facade seems older than the theatre and built for an earlier purpose (may have been a pre-cinema 'music hall').

Very well done, sir. Your tribute to Uvalde was right on the mark: not too sad (it’s sad enough), and no b.s. Thanks for sharing that.
I loved the San Angelo video. I have a friend who, in his heyday, owned a plane. He had a very good friend who lived in San Angelo, and was a hair stylist. He would fly from Dallas to San Angelo to have his hair cut. Now, That’s stylin’! (It didn’t hurt that his friend would style hair for a lot of hot chicks 😁). Anyway, great video, as always. It’s what I’ve come to expect when I look for your videos. 👍
