I grew up in Fortuna, places like Rohner park, the movie theater, Bob's Footlongs, Angelos's pizza are core childhood memories. The Rodeo is fun every year, and the fall apple harvest at the orchard in town. The local creamery on the outskirts of town where you can get great ice cream. Fortuna is a special place.
Thank you! I am glad I made the Fortuna video. When I was staying there, I was disappointed that I didn't get to some more typically photogenic places---like Trinidad. But this Fortuna video has had a lot of positive response. I wish I could have made more videos about Fortuna, since this one is literally 2 or 3 hours of just walking around the center of the city.
I am glad you liked it. I have been a bit surprised at how successful this video is---there are more touristy towns in Humboldt County, but a lot of people seem to be interested in Fortuna.
This Fortuna video seems to be well-received. I wasn't expecting it, I actually made it in an afternoon and didn't really even know what I wanted to make it about. But it has been a lot more successful than a lot of videos that I thought were going to do better.
As some one who lives in fortuna i love the place I've lived here all my life and it is amazing nice small very very cold in the witer tho and very hot in the summer but the local shops like shots and bobs are just 👌👌👌
Temperatures really depend! Right now I am in Costa Rica, where the temperature is always between 60 and 80, so the swings in temperature would be greater there! But, I've lived in Montana...so compared to there, the temperature swings are going to be pretty mild.
By coincidence, the first time I visited Fortuna was around 1998...I was passing through on a Greyhound bus at night, though, so that might not count! I didn't really see the area for real until 2006, I believe.
I rode one of the first buses when they did the transit in eureka back in the '70s I don't remember what year was but I remember them coming out publicly saying this is our launch day and I went and rode it and it was $0.10 and yeah I don't know what it cost now
I think it costs around $2 for a ride, I forgot the exact number. They use preprinted magnetic cards and it automatically deducts from it when you swipe it.
And did you? Also, one of the reasons I make these is that, even though of course I am avoiding specific people being identified, I do want to record what a city was like so people will be able to remember specific businesses and buildings in the future.
@@ArmyMomMarineDaughter I visited a lot of places in Humboldt County in 2019...sadly, before I had realized I could make TH-cam videos. I visited Trinity, Orick, Klamath, Hoopa Valley, Blue Lake, Samoa, King Salmon, Fields Landing, Loleta, the Avenue of the Giants from Phillipsburg to Myers Flat, and Garberville & Redway...and now, I really wish I would have taken video footage on those trips. :/
@@glowingfish all of those places are wonderful!!!! One day in the future you can do another video….it’ll give you an excuse to revisit all those places!! I’ve been to them all, but it would be awesome to view a recent video! My father worked at PL (in Scotia) for many years…. So I have a TON of memories and places I’ve been to! Klamath is pretty incredible though!!♥️
@@ArmyMomMarineDaughter I hope I do get a chance to visit...but I have also visited many nice places in Oregon and Washington. And it is also interesting to compare coastal towns. If you are interested, you might want to watch my videos of places like Yachats, Waldport, Friday Harbor and Bellingham!
@@glowingfish The theater is really pretty inside. It has a balcony section and art mural ceiling. As a kid we used to go to the theater during the summer on weekdays and see movies for a dollar. Cheap fun in the 80's for sure.
Thanks for the tour! Much appreciated!
Glad you liked it! I have several other Humboldt County videos, too.
Fortuna , CA and I want to go there again and again .
I enjoyed every minute of the video .
YOU ARE A GOOD TOUR GUIDE . Thank you .
Glad you liked it. I have a lot more videos of the area.
Fortuna is a nice small town super nice except the schools they suck but I just don't like school
Better to go to school in Fortuna 🤭than in Berlin , GER 🤗@@Idk-h2d5e

Fortuna just is not the same as it was in the 60's and 70's. I graduated at Fortuna High in 1970. My son lives there.
Thanks for sharing this video.

Great small city! Fine people too. Rich history as well. Thanks for posting. Old CDF retiree.
This Fortuna video was pretty popular, and I didn't even get to show a lot of good things about the city.
i lived there in the mid 90's

I used to live in Scotia now I live in Fortuna
I've kind of lived in Eureka and Scotia.
Same here. Grew up in scotia & moved to fortuna in ‘93. Scotia was a great place to grow up!
I was born at the hospital in Scotia in 1951, so was my brother and sister. My son was born in Fortuna though at Redwood Memorial.

Citown?
Fortuna is my hometown, I was looking around the video to see if I recognize anybody I know driving by. 😂

Well, I hope my video helped bring up happy memories.

The fortuna movie theater was damaged by the recent earthquake. It's still in the evaluation stage as to whether or not it can be repaired.
Oh! I should have thought about that! Well, I really hope it can be repaired, it looked like a pretty important part of the community.
