As a Sonoma County resident, I lived close enough to my friend's in Mendocino County to housesit while she was on vacation. Imagine my surprise and delight to be able to spend 2 weeks twice a year for her IN MENDOCINO! I did this for several years. I explored the town of Mendocino; several parks in this area; Ft. Bragg and much more. Their local histories are fascinating. Life enriching experiences.
So love Mendocino but it’s been years since my wife and I went there when we lived in SF. Now we live on the East Coast. I still think about Mendocino all the time
Thanks! I lived up there moving from San Diego in 1992,and moving away in 2000. I spent much time exploring the coast, and the forest/Redwoods There are so many places to explore, and it is so beautiful. The skunk train bikes/carts, were not around when I lived there. They looked fun and also expensive. I did like the Skunk train. You did a great job filming those wonderful moments.
We just returned from a Mendo visit. I had not been there since 1983! We had a great getaway from the Bay Area. We needed time to chill and put the rat race behind us. We were a bit shocked at the high prices at the grocery store, but it was great quality stuff there. The ice cream at Frankie’s was great and I heard locally made, but it was just over $6.00 for one scoop. We ended up eating dinner at Frankie’s and ordered their pizza. It was tasty, but nothing memorable. We absolutely loved the GoodLife Cafe & Bakery. They are more than a bakery. They have a fantastic breakfast and lunch! I highly recommend this place. The service is superb. Lines go fast. Indoor & outdoor seating. Prices vary. Their very large and decadent cheesecake slice is $9.00. This town is dog friendly. It makes me want to win lotto and move there.
Gas is only $10.00 a gallon. Fill up your gas tank before you go there. Prices in Mendocino are sky high. The Farmers Market on the weekend was great! A beach just south of there, on Big River is really awesome too. The Big River is about 58 degrees. Few people take a dip there. Beautiful, pristine river. Just stunning.
Never ever EVER get gas’s in the town of Mendocino! Go 7 miles up to Ft Bragg and there it’s as “reasonable” as California gets. Right now, about $5.35 a gallon.
OMG! I discovered Mendo a few years ago when my cousin got married amongst the trees at Cypress Grove. We camped at Van Damme State park. Totally fell in love with this place!!! I returned with a few relatives to check out the town & do some awesome coastal hikes including Shady Dell an hour north of Mendo. We also had the delicious Caldeirada (Portuguese seafood stew) at Flow which was perfect for the chilly weather. Its my goal to buy some land up there, build my retirement home and finish my days in that area. Its heaven up there!!! We need to keep that place a secret though xD oh and yes Glass Beach could use a little more glass and great luck on running into a family of deer on the hike! Major "Like"
Awwww you’re adorable! Thanks for such a nice message. We loved hearing about how you found this area. A retirement home there would be a DREAM? Have room for 2 more 😉
If you do come back, visit Blacks beach or 26th. Less people and much cleaner. Also, the best mexican food in Santa Cruz imo is by Blacks, and called Taqueria Michoacán (family owned and operated). @@TouristtoLocal
Thanks but NO thanks! I am a local and anyone that grew up here does not want this kind of exposure. Leave it alone. There are enough people coming without people like you trying to make money off the over crowding/over running effect the whole west coast is experiencing. The pristine nature of what you are having so much fun " viewing", is slipping away because there are A LOT of people in California - 42 million and growing - coming to " check" it out partially because of this kind of hyper crap. Have some sensitivity to the people that live where you make your silly clips.

It's such a slice of paradise! Hopefully you get a chance to go back some day.

@@TouristtoLocal haha yeah that’s definitely true! None I could repeat on here though 🙈

Agreed with your sentiment about wishing to win the lotto and move there! It is a surprisingly expensive town. Glad you had a nice trip!
Just WOW- Ca. resident for over 50 years. I've been nearby, but this was a truly great overview.
Thank you 🥹💕 that means a ton to us!!
So beautiful, love the railbikes and the deer! The food looked delicious too, even the mushroom ice cream, lol.
Thank you!!! We loved making this video. Had a great good day this day!!

We didn’t make it there but it was on our list if we had more time!! Thanks for watching!!
@@TouristtoLocal I know the feeling. There is so much to see and you can only do so much.

We live about 90 minutes from Mendo and dream of retiring there too :)
Nice video
Thank you!
I hope you got to see Santa Cruz. It’s where I’m from and I love it!
We love Santa Cruz! There’s a video somewhere on this channel from when we went years ago! We do need to go back though…

Thanks for showing us the rail cars... now i dont have to waste my money 😊
Happy to help!
Have you been on Highway 1 in Baja California which was the first california?
We are here right now actually! Video coming soon!
Technically Ft Bragg is still Mendocino, it’s all Mendocino County ❤️
Good point!
Im drawn there for some reason deep in my bones I cant quite put my finger on it.
@@JacobWillits I know the feeling. It’s an incredible area
Rail bikes look cool, but $250 for a ride seems outrageously expensive!
It was definitely overpriced, but a fun thing to splurge on :)
There are cheaper ways to see the same places for sure. The skunk train is a bit of a local joke for how expensive it is.
Too pricey for my wallet brother
Peterson's Pub Mendocino Hotel
Patterson's
Thanks for the recommendation!
Thanks for the info on this area. Please, ...If you could NOT spin the camera your viewers with vertigo would appreciate it... thank you

Drone filming in state parks is illegal. 🗑️
Yes, definitely don’t fly a drone in the parks!
Im suspicious of the legality of such thing
