Anyone in her situation would've been the same. Before you bring up Zuko, he was ignored and completely disregarded by his father, his situation is different. He also had Iroh to guide him. Even despite that, he was still obsessed with pleasing his father for a long time. It just shows how much of a manipulative prick Ozai is, that he is able to influence his kids in such a horrible way.

Maybe she is a teen just like most of the characters in series and what I think Zuko was strong enough to accept destiny, realize mistakes without uncle Iroh around and finally go against father. Azula is not innocent not at all i don't know why people are defending her THAT much, yes it's kinda parents' fault but I doubt they pushed her to do all these things against friends, family. She had a choice she made it

      @@eternaldilnaz3316 did you read any of what I just wrote? wtf are you on about? She is a kid, what kind of choice she had? Kids need to be taught empathy, taught morals and such. You can't just grow up as goody goody without guidance. This life is the only life she knew. Did you see the Beach episode? She couldn't even socialize, which shows that her father clearly was extremely controlling of her growth and only taught her how to scare people.
      Iroh gave Zuko idea of what he can be. Showed him another path, showed him what it will be like to live a normal life. It took Zuko long time to realize that his father doesn't give a damn about him. Iroh gave him guidance even in prison. So you can't say that Zuko found his way without Iroh, Iroh taught him everything he needed at that point. Of course you don't need more guidance when you learn all you need.
      Who was there for Azula? Nobody. She had no one but her father. How can someone have a choice, if they were brainwashed into believing that everything else sucks? You don't understand what it's like to grow up with a narcissistic parent, do you? You have no idea how terrible their influence can be.

      What I love most about this series, besides the chars is just how much they incorporated Asian concepts from the 5 elements (Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Metal) to ancient creatures (Lion Turtle) to even some of the different Asian cultures (like it's obvious the Air Nomads were based on Buddhism). As a lover of Asian culture, this really hit all the right spots. Now I feel like a bit of an idiot though because I forgot about the chakra points when it came to Aang's powers being blocked.

      @@pvrify earth is "opposite" to air, but aang was opposite to violence much more than rigidness.
      dude. It's not that an element is opposite to another. It's mostly that an element is opposite to a personality.
      Usually, the personality of the avatar matches the element very well and so the opposite element is also opposite to the personality. But not always and not for either Aang or korra.
      Korra's personality matched fire very very well. So she had very little problem learning it. In fact, her personality matches earth very well too. I find that curiously, she doesn't match water (fluid) that much.
      Aang's personality had trouble with learning earth because being straightforward and thought was hard for him. But that wasnt nearly as hard as learning fire, because it was not just opposite to his personality but his ethics.
      He lived in a time were fire was violence, and that was so opposed to him that he couldn't learn it until he found a firebending idea that taught him it wasn't, in fact, all about violence

    • @pvrify

    • @mash2873
      @mash2873 4 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      androkguz No, in the episode “the firebending masters” it says that although many people think fire is violence and destruction it is actually life and light and in the episode where aang first learns earth bending katara says “it’s okay that earth bending doesn’t come easy to you it is the opposite to air like fire is to water” and in another episode roku (a firebender) says water was hardest for him and so on. Earth was the only one that didn’t come easy to aang, he learned water really quickly (which katara was jealous of) he was an airbending prodigy by twelve and when he first started fire it came really easy to him (so easy that he did too much) and the only reason he didn’t use it after was because he hurt katara and was scared of it not because it wasn’t easy for him. So yes, the og comment was right.

      gregorio massa I thought the ending of both of them wasn’t quite perfect. They were both really good, but had their flaws. Gravity Falls felt a little forced when Stan regained his memories pretty much instantly after his sacrifice. Avatar had a deus ex machina in the form of a turtle that comes out of nowhere just to give an answer that wasn’t explained or foreshadowed at all beforehand. But the rest of both finales were incredible, perfectly timed and animated, and provided great closure.

I just rolled my eyes at him and chuckled. He didn't leave though, he watched half a minute with me (I think it was the Library episode from book 2). After a while he just went to his room and grabbed a chair and sat down beside me. I proceded to show him the first episode and he was hooked.

    In my mind, the seismic sense indicated Aang's final mastery over earthbending, which was perfect for what happened next. Toph compared earth to air by saying "There's no different angle, no clever solution, no trickety trick that's going to move that rock. You've got to face it head on." And that's exactly what Aang did. You can see it in his face: he's just done. He had given Ozai every opportunity to back out and stand down but he didn't, so Aang stood his ground and made his choice by taking Ozai's bending away. Toph would've been proud.

    Azula's breakdown is one of my favorite scenes even always brings tears to my eyes for many reasons:
    Can we remember that she is only fourteen?
    Can we remember that she always was raised to be strong, fierce and useful so she never so she never could let his father and the Fire Nation down?
    Can we remember that she assumed is her duty to bear all the stress and responsibility as a member of the royal family since her brother, Crown prince therefore the one to bear that burden, is a 'traitor so it relies on her'?
    Can we remember that, after Ursa left, she only had her father to rely on since he doesn't seem to label her as a 'monster'?
    Can we remember that, obsessed with pleasing him, she thought that if she didn't win the Agni Kai she would be a failure to him?
    Even her concept of 'friendship' is different since it is intrinsically linked to loyalty due her royal status, losing Mei and Ty Lee was hard for her. Not because they were 'pawns' but because they were the only people that were always by her side.
    She not evil, she's just a damaged and lonely child

      Ķaňa DevilsBlues i agree. When i was a kid while watching this show, i freaking hated azula so much. Like the part that got me furious is when she crossed the line when she strucked zuko with her lightning and was becoming more insane than ever. When katara finally managed to chain her up and defeated her, to me it was satisfying to see azula screaming and crying in defeat because that's what i wanted to see, to see her in emotional pain cuz of her defeat. But after rewatching the finale as an adult today, it really made me understand her and not hate her anymore... Sure she still scares me but at the end she is just a broken mentally unstable 14 year old girl, a freaking 14 year old girl!! She became like this all because of her good for nothing monster of a father!! He was the main cause to turn azula just like him, turning her into a power hungry monster and that was so unfair to azula... It's just so sad. And now she lost everything, her mother, her brother, and her sanity while staying trapped in a mental hospital. Azula didn't deserved to live in life of hatred... It's so sad 😢

      *aang found a way!* when the world tells you to move, sometimes you just gotta plant your feet and stand your ground! even with basically *everybody* telling him he must *kill* firelord ozai...sokka, katara even zuku, his own son...aang would not budge. he not only went against his most trusted friends and allies but also every avatar that has ever *existed,* all his past lives, to do something completely unexpected. it would've been sooo much easier just to redirect that lightning and *end* the firelord forever but the avatar would not be moved. this unyielding strength of heart, saved him from being completely overtaken in the process of utilizing the lion turtle's technique to bend ozai's chi. the lion turtle, of course, will be seen by some as a convenient "deux ex machina," but i choose to see it as the *universe* sensing aang's spiritual dilemma, arriving at the eve of battle to give aang *another option* ...an option that *none* of the previous avatars would've even considered, possibly explaining why the LT did not come to them. aang used this long forgotten technique not only to *save* the world but to show it a better way. maaaan, i don't care *who* you are, that's f^ckin deep! this really aint no kids show...! ha ;) LIKE# 4923

      Joe G But the whole "universe getting involved" is what the term Deus ex machina comes from. The sudden involvement of a higher power. Of course Deus ex machina can apply to smaller situations and not necessarily just large entities or plot devices, but by your definition of how you saw it, it fits the bill.
      Listen I love TLAB, but even recently couldn't admit it to myself but as interesting and cool as the lion turtle is major plot convenience.

    Besides the obvious beautiful dialogue and phenomenal drawn and choreographed action and toph and sokkas teary eyed close CALL... ONE of favorite things about this finale was that the end of all that Ruckus they cut to Ang and he's wearing his traditional clothes with Monk gyatso necklace. Which means He went back home to bury him. He looks as if he is satisfied yet completely broken cuz at the end of the day he never really had a chance to mourn for the loss of his people. He is the last airbender. Then at the end before kisses Katara , he looks up at the sky with a smile satisfaction as if telling his past lives, Monk gyatso and his people... "I did it". This is one of my favorite shows of all time the symbolism the emotion all the lessons, drawings.. wow. 14 out of 10 hands down

      no, this show is proof that kids shows shouldnt necessarily baby their audience. ATLA teaches so many life lessons that kids will take with them as they get older. and anything not appropriate, they cover up well, like Sokka and Suki's tent scene or the actual deaths (Jet, Combustion Man, etc.) kids are smarter and understand more than adults give them credit for and the mass success of this show is proof of that.

    • @Artimes.
      @Artimes. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@names_are_useless Well, it has in countries like Japan and Korea, some live actions have aesthetics and action piece moments i swear that look like they are straight out of the manga pages with gorgeous vibrant back drops and an ambience that is not easy to capture with western made media. We unfortunately just have not been able to adapt their cultural style very well.
      Also there is of course the fact that the Japanenese religious history like shinto and budism and post war reconstruction era makes them have alot of restraint and there soceity is all about social harmony instead of american independence. Which is the reason there so collective and often calm, instead of flamboyant, laud and over exacurated like the west. So a clash of cultures is often hard to replicate. To many times often I see anime adapted characters with hollywood, which makes characters on screen, look like ass clowns with silly cheesy amercanized dialogue, and abnoxious personalities and that is not the way the japanese express them selfs.
      I think there is a certain leven of desigh philosophy and cultural traditions that need to be captured and carried over well for western made media in order for hollywood made live action to really work on screen.

    I love how the boys all had their eyes so round and mouths hanging wide open. Then all of them crying in end. That's how I was when I was watching. Towards the almost fakeout after the hug I was yelling in my head "where's THE KISS!!!!" then they zoomed in with cave of two lovers/Kataang theme...
    BTW, Aang did "leave" Katara in last episode of season 2. He said "sorry Katara" and went into his green gem hut and was in the process of finalizing his last chakra and avatar state until Azula got him. Leaving Katara just mean that Aang shouldn't make Katara his whole world and his whole being. He's not just Katara's lover, he is also the Avatar, the friend of Toph/Zuko/Sokka, etc. He needed to be his whole self and not use Katara as a crutch. He can love and cherish Katara without loosing his individual core self.
