    Great material and quality but for it to be "custom" I think it should fit perfectly.

      Yes I agree it could be tightened up a bit on the sides.

    • @erice3933
      @erice3933 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@HighPriority I've had several of these for different cars. That side fit issue is because they are so rigid. If they are too snug you can't lay it flat and tilt it up against the windshield. Most windshields are wider than the A pillar trim and the Covercraft is hard to maneuver, so they only make them as wide as the trim. It fit great in my old Subaru Outback (very little side gap) but was a huge pain to deploy in my wife's Lexus RX350 (huge side gap). Their design is just not ideal for all window spaces.

    • @HighPriority
      @HighPriority  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@erice3933 this is great info thank you. I figure they would fit quite similar in all vehicles but it makes sense about the window trim.

    Well I was using the cheap one for about 2 years and now it is exactly what he said it would do, it's flaking everywhere.. I have to give credit where credit is due.. My mom of 79 years told me to go to the fabric store and get the sunblock fabric that people use in their house.. I laid it over the outside of the windshield and cut it to fit.. Then I sewed a strap on all 4 corners so I could bring it inside the door with a finger loop and pull tight when I push the door shut works great..

    I've been using the universal truck/van sun shade for over 10 years - was pretty cheap, shows some wear, but still works great. Not really sure why you are knocking the universal one like its so terrible. The covercraft looks nice, might have a better fit, but its very expensive and I'm not sure it does a better job. As for me, I'd rather the larger universal fit (that can be trimmed) which provides better coverage than the custom fit you reviewed.

    My review is not on the cover craft quality it's on the poor customer service that you receive. I ordered a windshield shade for a 2021 Ford E350. It's a box van. There is no rear view mirror. However I ended up with a 1 ft square hole in the middle of my window shade. I called covercraft and they tell me I ordered the wrong one. I went back to the website and there are no options for with or without the mirror or box fan or regular van. Because the order was within 30 days they accepted it back. But I had to pay $26 in shipping plus 15% restocking. It cost me $36 to try to do business with these people. Customer service gets no stars from me. yes it sucks.

  • @TonyGingrich
    @TonyGingrich ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The premium is much better performance. The reasons come down to sciences which aren't so obvious...it's not as simple as blocking the sunlight.
    The premium being slightly undersized is an advantage because that allows it to be fit more directly against the glass with fewer gaps. Compare to the cheaper universal: its fitment is such that there are lots of large voids between it and the glass.
    That's important. The infrared energy in sunlight gets converted to heat when it passes through glass and thusly refracted. Not all IR energy is of the type we don't want in a vehicle, until the refraction of the glass converts it into such.
    Both shades are behind the glass, inside the vehicle. So in both cases, the sunlight passes through the glass and transforms into unwanted heat. The shades reflect that heat back towards the glass; but since that heat is no longer the higher frequency IR energy that it originated from, the glass is able to act as an insulator by reflecting it back inward. The premium shade fits closer against the glass. So with minimal void, more of that lower frequency heat can escape. The larger the voids, the more heat gets reflected back inward off the glass. So the lower value shade is far less efficient for that reason.
    The amount of heat reflected back out of the vehicle is a net positive over the amount which slips past the edges in the gaps of the premium shade. So even though there's less coverage than the oversized cheaper shade, the efficiency is far greater due to the better fitment against the glass.
    All of that said...
    An even cheaper alternative with far greater effect: Buy a store-brand white bedsheet from Walmart or Costco. Large enough to drape over all cabin windows, but cheap enough to not be upset over loss or theft. Toss that over the OUTSIDE of the vehicle, and maybe tuck into door jambs to prevent the breeze from creating openings.
    The sheet will block the high frequency IR from passing through the glass to begin with. The relative little bit that does penetrate will be low enough frequency so that the glass can in turn reflect it back up. Only a fractional amount will enter the cab.
    Also, the sheet will limit the amount of IR absorbed by the metal parts: roof, b-pillars, etc... So you get additional protection in those areas.

    A sunshade is bought to limit the internal car temperatures. Essentially, all you do is go over how they look, not how they perform. I would use a sunshade that says "I bathe in poo daily" if it kept my car interior cooler than the alternatives.

      I got this given to me and enjoy it more than the cheaper varieties out there. Is there some “space” on the sides? Yes. Do I think it performs better than the cheaper ones? No. Do I think it’s better quality? Yes. Would I buy the CC for my next vehicle? Yes. 👍
