Hey my name is Justin, and I am here to show you cool products I buy and show you useful DIY projects you can do yourself that will save you money and give you that satisfaction of doing something on your own.
I am a former diesel mechanic turned stay at home dad. I spent the past 10 years repairing and modifying diesel trucks from general maintenance to giant turbos and built engines. I now stay home with my two girls and shoot videos of interesting things I do in my garage and around my house. From working on my own trucks to dragging old junk home to fix up and sell, I will bring you along for ride, and hopefully help you with your own project, but sorry, no lambos, yachts, or fluf. I also occasionally review products I buy for myself so be on the lookout for those.
So please subscribe as well as check out my social media to follow along as i get this ship sailing.

What Should I Do With My Square Body!?
I need your help! This is my 1982 Chevrolet Silverado K20 long Bed step side that was given to me when I was 15. I've had this truck for over 25 years, its been in the background of a few videos, I've never really talked about it, and I'm not sure what to do with it. Do I sell it? Keep it? Restore it? Engine swap? This is where I'm at a loss. I've had it so long I've lost direction and don't have much motivation anymore... Anyways, I wanted to show you this truck, how cool it is, and get some opinions.

Solo Stove Bonfire makeover with a Whiskey Barrel!!

Triple turbo LB7 Duramax at SpeedWorld!!
Great video, you touched on some of my issues. I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 with 20040 k. I had AC coming out one side and hot air coming out the driver side until the AC quit working. There’s intermittent hot air coming out when the fan is turned off. The fan currently only works on number 4 setting. I would love more content on some of these issues. You certainly helped me, thanks 👍
@@gregpowell4670 thanks for the kind words. Your truck has the digital controls with the two temp sliders for each zone? I’ll see what I can do!
Would this swap work for a 2001 silverado 2500hd ?
@@franciscorazo3458 yes it should fit no problem. I just looked through the figment and you should be good.
Here from the hydroboost video! Update: i did indeed get a diesel, but it is an LLY arp head studded and D&T! Just put the LML hydro on it not long ago too! LS swap that bad boy! 6.0 pro charged / 4l80e orrrrr 6.2 single turbo and all the supporting.. i say that because I wouldn’t play too much around with boring out a 6.0 and turboing it.. maybe pro charging it. With a cam of course too, man, it’s beautiful combo and sounds killer. It would definitely be a fun truck
@@AQWbladefire thanks for checking out my other content! I appreciate it. Great ideas on the 82. I have been thinking about doing the ls for a long time, especially every time I start this old small block haha. Something with awesome power but also reliable would be great. Then leave the look of the truck but fix all the little things like weather strip and interior.
The barrel is $92 now 🥴
thanks that helped a lot i have the exact same carb problem on this honda big red thanks😁
@@jenbrushwood8872 awesome! Glad it worked for ya.
Cool! I see your video is 3 years old now. What are your impressions 3 years later. Would you have done anything differently?
@@IvanLopez-dk1bw it’s been holding up pretty decent. Barrel is just fine I wouldn’t change anything with that, I think the holes drilled is adequate. The top I’d add maybe 1/2” or so of circumference to the inner circle, my top is a little charred and darkened from the heat there. Also I’d make the top out of pallet wood to keep the cost down as well, no need to spend money on nice looking boards that are going to get weathered and beat up.
In its time it i can't imagine it was looked at as cool. It's real cool now. I would go somewhat stock looking with tasteful wheels and a solid drive train. Have fun and nice find.
@@bradhoward6525 thank you ! I agree, I want to keep it kind of period correct in a way, bench seat back in, cool aftermarket you would have seen in the mid 80’s, and get the drivetrain to a more reliable state.
nice truck first time i seen a long bed factory sqaurebody , i would ls swap or drop a 454 out of rv or obs chevy truck
@@johnstephens3929 honestly a big block never crossed my mind. That could be a nice upgrade
get a junkyard lm7 and find some ls6 heads and summit stage 2 cam
@@DrakesCustoms I’ve really been thinking about this! I’m not well versed in the ls world with what works best with what but that would for sure make this think more reliable.
@@DrakesCustoms and probably add a decent amount of power too.
Cool truck! Especially with it being a long bed stepside. Wood bed floor too right? It's wild that you've had it all these years and haven't cut it up or gone too wild with it. With that said and with just my own experience driving old vehicles as dailys most of my driving life, I'd say don't go too wild with it. Don't get me wrong, an Ls3 with a 4L80 or T56 would be fun. A duramax would be even more fun! But to do it right and reliable is definitely going to be some coin. I'm a strong believer that carburetors are so nice and I prefer them.... I don't know, I daily a no choke carburetored 347/T5 van as a daily and no issues when it's snowing in the mountains or when it's 115 degrees out. With your truck, I'd ditch the quadrajunk and put that holley on after you rebuild it. Also, the dieseling, that's usually timing. Timing combined with the carb that's on it, probably all that's giving you issues. As far as what else you can do to the truck, like I said, I really dig it. Seeing something done about the clear coat would be cool to watch. I wonder how a product like Poppys Patina in glossy would look on your truck? Also, just my opinion, but I'm not liking those seats or center console. I think it would be cool if you could find a bench seat. Bench seats are better anyway, you can have the missus closer. Anyway, cool truck again and I'll be looking forward to see what you do with it
Thankx 4 the help brother👊🏼💯
Thank you for this video You likely save me hours of frustration
I should mention that I had a carb with a slide that has been stuck for 20 years… This opened it up and it slid out like butter in 60 seconds
@@thatracer05 great news! Glad the vid helped. I read a long time ago but never found anyone showing it being done.
Very good video
@@jarviscorley8860 thanks!
For a custom to vehicle shade it doesn't fit very well. The cheap one was way better, price and fit. So you decide $8.00 for the cheap one from amazon that works fine or $183.00 from Covercraft that doesn't.
I have an 01 Duramax and I have been told replacing the hydroboost was an absolute nightmare. You proved it wrong. I feel I can do this myself. Thank you for this video!

@@eugene1653el yea I really liked the v6. Great power not so great mileage haha.
Get ready. I just cut around that slot on my 2011 avalanche..... It was not easy. If they wanted us to cut it away they sure did make the plastic thick even though the slot is implied. You can see where it's supposed to be. At least that allows you to know where to cut but that doesn't make it any easier to cut through thick dash plastic without the blade wandering or slipping and possibly cutting yourself so be careful ias you're going to be very angry while you're doing this because you have this information and there's absolutely no reason did an AC system that has debris going through it should not have a filter I can confirm this after I ripped that thing off along with the parts of the plastic around it. Because it really isn't designed to be done easily. It's a weird angle to dig in with a box cutter or some other razor-like device. I saw another video where a guy just used a spinning disk and just melted the plastic while cutting it. It's not some secret compartment you're not going to get a free filter when you open it. What you're going to get is a good look add all the garbage that has gone up in clogged your AC system. For me that would be around 14 years creating this abstract art attached object and other crap collage it has no business being created in the first place.. this isn't just a design flaw , this is a bad decision made by designers who already had this in place and took it away. Why? If you're able to get in there and take a look. You're going to want to talk to somebody about it like how do I get this out to clean it or how can I clean it? It's already destroyed my blower motor and I think it burned out the resistor. No big deal. Now on top of diagnosing why my AC wasn't working and spending the time and the money to buy all the parts because they were probably ruined because of this ingenious design? What designer of an HVAC system thinks it doesn't need filtration. Help most cars have a pre-filter and one after. This one goes to 11 oh I'm sorry I mean zero. And when you have zero filtration? I'll probably hear your screan from where I'm at when you finally get in there and take a look. There are conflicting videos about this online period with mechanic showing them taking the filter out of a 2011 just like it was a 2001. If you go up to the auto parts store and ask if they have a filter they say yes. And when you finally determined that it's supposed to have a filter why wouldn't it have a filter? You trying to figure out how to access yeah there's nothing there except for an outline where they're supposed to be a door. Then people will tell you you get to it through the glove box and to take that off. And the final answer and I'm not kidding he said you have to cut your vehicle open with a sharp blade all right spinning Dremel disc to get to the empty space where you put your filters in. Probably about 10 to 15 years too late. I know I've written too much to say I'm speechless.
nice
Appreciate the review very much, agree with everyone else, those gaps on a custom shade are unacceptable. CoverCraft should respond or clarify exactly how they expect a custom fit to fit.
This would fail an inspection. That switch is not rated for 30 amps and you've basically put it inline with the heater load which defeats the purpose of using a contactor. The point of the contactor is to handle the load such that something like a normal light switch (or timer) can power the coil. Also it's kinda wasteful and potentially dangerous (heat) to run romex like that through PVC (nitpick). Much cleaner (and easier to pull) to use individual THHN conductors. Nice heater BTW, I have the same one.

For premium price and being "custom" fit, the fitment should be way better. Ill stick with the cheaper
I noticed that the 2011 unit doesn't have a weep hole at the bottom. Any concerns for you there?
@@SteveoAtilla another viewer pointed out the weep hole is there, just not right at the mating surface and set back more on the booster. Just checked mine and it’s true.
Just swapped out one of these on the old motorhome - check into the 178-1040 - it should be identical to the 1036 and cheaper. Also for you guys that tow- a small trans cooler plumbed into the PS return line and use a TES-295 ATF fluid like Mobil one Delvac or Castrol Transynd will extend the life of your components and save your shit from boiling over in hot ambient temps while trying to back in your trailer/load. Slow speed turning and maneuvering is murder on the system

Used Pine Sol over the wekend for my old Ford carb and worked very well. Only thing I noticed was Pine Sol tends to eat steel parts more than I expected. The throttle lever and fast idle cam are steel and saw a bit of corrosion on them. Ended up using Evaporust in my ultrsonic cleaner and clened right up. I'm a new believer in the Pine Sol!
the expensive one is GAPVILLE
Nice product… shitty fitment. Not worth $80 if it doesn’t fit right.
2005 has one as well
What about 2004?

Good video amigo, i ordered 1 & since ive been a 12 volt tech for 35+ years i connected it to my DEH3000 with a dedicated 12 volt switch to the ignition wire & its own shared ground wire to the pioneer head unit, the radio's IP-Bus recognized the input & i hear the hiss white noise as i turn up the volume & the little blue light turned on & it paired to my phone but im getting no sound, i trouble shot it for half an hour & concluded that it never worked from the factory hence why i found this YT video😂

Haha glad the cheap one is working for ya. I had one years ago that totally came apart in the Vegas sun. Then I got this cover craft one and it worked fine for me in the Vegas heat not problem.
@HighPriority Yep! I just did maths £5 including tax even if it lasts a year x 10 years it's still 50 British pounds I am glad yours works for you too👊💯😸❤️👍
For the price difference the cover craft should fit better. I would rather have one a little big than too small.

If I were to install 7500watts of baseboard heaters with 40amp breaker but only have a 5280watt, 22 amp thermostat. Can I use a 40a contactor between the 7500 watt baseboard and 5280watt thermostat to handle the big load?
difference could be because you don't have a leak and losing braking pressure. nothing to do with unit or fluid if it is that subtle.
You need to have very clean metal, and etch with a highly acidic flux of zinc chloride, then use a 95% tin 5% solder to stick to the steel, then use lead to fill the hole .. clean with baking soda and water to neutralize the hydrochloric acid formed from heating the flux...
Thank you for the input. Is that a special type of flux? Or is all that makeup?
@@HighPriority it's not special, but there are different types of fluxes for different applications... what would work for etching copper might not work for aluminum for example... electronics again a non corrosive flux, with steel you need a higher acid level flux ... temperature of your heat source and melting points of said solder are important to remember as well.
I'd rather have the shade that covers ALL the areas where the hot sun can get inside the car. Poor job @CoverCraft
