Lego Horizon Adventures going to the Switch is a genius move on Sony's part. It appears to be an abridged retelling of the first game and in a style that will appeal to casual gamers who may not want the cinematic open world experience. It's being launched on as many platforms as possible to cast as wide a net as possible to bring people in to its universe, right before the TV series and all the other Horizon spin-offs. I think that if the rumored Zero Dawn remake were to be on Switch or Xbox then that would be 3rd party behavior but this Lego spin-off is just smart business.

This game will be sold on the Switch, bringing in revenue for Sony. What's so difficult to understand? I know for sure I won't be buying this Lego game on the Ps5.
I think Sony is just playing it smart here. They are laying the ground work now for their big Horizon Monster Hunter like GaaS they are working on. It will undoubtedly be on Switch 2 as well and Sony is working to build a Switch audience for it now because they feel it could be a Monster Hunter World like success story for them if they do it right. And I definitely think it's telling that it's not on Xbox, it's not even a West vs East thing. I think this just shows how irrevelant Sony truly thinks Xbox is as competition.
This is one of the dumbest comments I've read. They're putting this damn thing on Switch BECAUSE they don't think Switch is a competitor. So skipping Xbox would mean they still see Xbox very much as a competitor!
@@samalton5837 Absolutely not. Sony sees Xbox as completely fucking ineffectual and irrevelant hence why they are skipping it. They want to sell this game and the Xbox isn't where games sale at all. They are just phoning it in and still out selling Xbox 5-1. If they think of Xbox as anything at this point it's as a joke and little more.
These were my thoughts as well, so I didn't get all the outrage from seeing a LEGO game go to Nintendo Switch. It's a kiddie game. Why not put it on Switch? Sony did a little bit of market research with Lego and realized that Lego games sell very well on Switch. Even more than any other platform... and this is simply because Lego and Nintendo are know to target similar age groups in their product line. Sony wanted to create games that would allow them to leverage their IPs to attracts different audiences. This is an incredibly smart decision from them because it allows them to attract Horizon fans on PS (who will undoubtable play this with their kids) as well as all the Lego fans that are already on Switch. Finally ! Thank you for making this video I've been trying to explain this in the comment section of several vids, but some people are so obtuse it's scary. I would just add a caveat, Lego Games are made primarily to entice people to buy the lego sets, and yes Horizon has Lego sets of machines already on the shelves (Tallneck, Thunderjaw and Tremortusk). Back in the days, It was common practice for companies who had toys to sell, like Hasbro, Kenner or Mattel to make a TV cartoon series featuring those toys (think My little Poney, Transformers, M.A.S.K., GI Joe, etc.) and the children who would watch the show would then ask their parents to buy the toys. Lego does the same with games, which is smart since not only it boost their sales of sets, but they also make some return on game itself. If we base ourselves on previous Lego games, no matter who owned the property (WB, Marvel, MGM), Lego would always partner with WB to publish it, and a subsidiary studio of WB would make the game. When it comes to Lego Fortnite though, Epic is credited with the development and the publishing of the game in association with Lego, so I'm inclined to think Sony did the same and at least negociated the publishing rights in order to safeguard its IP. Whatever the case, the Game is owned by the Lego Group who pays royalties to Sony on the sales of the game, and of the associated lego sets.
You made a great point about how shows like GI Joe, My Little Pony, Transformers, He Man, and other franchises made cartoons, and movies to sell their merchandise, and build a fanbase for it. Another example is Pokemon. It started off as a hit video game back in 1996 in Japan. And spread worldwide, especially in the West, and in the United States, in particular. The anime came out in 1998 in the States, and became a major hit every since. I remember liking Pokemon because of the show, and played the games, cards, and other stuff ever since. To this day, Pokemon is one of the best selling franchises of all time because it follows a simple pattern that works for people of all ages. Among other reasons. But the point is that what Sony is doing with Horizon Lego is not new. It's been a thing for years. It's just that some people are on some nonsense about Sony doing it for illogical reasons.
I remember specifically you talking about this situation or something similar to it and with your track record I would be more inclined to believe your input. I can't remember verbatim but this would be a really good money move on Sony's part. Of course those who don't know better will use this news as anything to help them sleep at night. You know who I am talking about. DWYD
@@BrokenMessiah1 they absolutely have a lot of major things going on. You think Sony is just paying Guerilla devs a salary for nothing? They are mad busy growing the IP.
I don't understand why people now believes that Sony has broken some set of rules, that themselves have been setting up. When LEGO has bought the license to use the Horizon license, which costs money for LEGO to use for "Horizon - Adventures". This actually meaning that the Horizon IP is actually now worth more money in this industry or marketplace and LEGO being the first corporation to buy into the Horizon IP. This doesn't mean that Guerrilla Games has now actually put a full blown Horizon game on Nintendo Switch and PC, then the game is called "Horizon : Adventures". It's like Thrash saying about MLB : The Show on both PC and Game Pass. Not a first party production but only under Guerrilla Games overwatch that LEGO respect the Horizon IP.
Easy answer: Lego is a *Franchise, Just like MLB is a Franchise. PlayStation gets these business models. They calculated how the game could be placed on gaming platforms. A perfect fit for their new Experimental category/strategy.
There's a point towards Horizon being a Lego game is that we've seen Lego video games sell for years. DC, Marvel, Harry Potter, you name it. They do sell. Horizon Zero Dawn being on Lego makes sense. It's one of PlayStations most successful games, and Aloy, and the machines themselves could easily be a Lego set on it's own. And people of all ages would buy it. The game being on Switch along with PS5 is about expanding the game to different people. Especially to young kids on Nintendo. Those kids who are playing Horizon Lego, should they like the game, will want to play it on PlayStation as they get older. So this isn't PlayStation going third party. It's just a plan from Sony to use one of their successful games to other mediums like tv, and movies, just like what they said, to get more people into PlayStation. That's it, man. Good video Thrash.
@@naseemwaja8735 Nintendo also saw the redundancy of developing for the DS and their main console. That's why the Switch was made. Lego Horizon Adventures going to the Switch is a genius move on Sony's part. It appears to be an abridged retelling of the first game and in a style that will appeal to casual gamers who may not want the cinematic open world experience.

Sony wanted to create games that would allow them to leverage their IPs to attracts different audiences. This is an incredibly smart decision from them because it allows them to attract Horizon fans on PS (who will undoubtable play this with their kids) as well as all the Lego fans that are already on Switch. Sony wins. Nintendo wins because they get a game from two huge IPs which will sell like hotcakes on their platform.

Sony is also a movie company. Before it’s all said and done there’ll probably be a LEGO Horizon movie. This is just the ice breaker to familiarize the kids to the IP. They want that Mario Nintendo movie type of money also. Then selling all the toys and other merchandise that sure to follow.

Sony: “we want this as a PS5 exclusive”.
Lego: “we want this to be multiplat.”

Thus Lego Horizon Adventures was born, a PlayStation, Switch, and PC game, exclusive to not Xbox.
Sony is a third party platform now
I remember specifically you talking about this situation or something similar to it and with your track record I would be more inclined to believe your input. I can't remember verbatim but this would be a really good money move on Sony's part. Of course those who don't know better will use this news as anything to help them sleep at night. You know who I am talking about. DWYD
This game will definitely sell more on switch than ps5 so yea it's a smart move and it's my like guerilla games has anything else major going on
@@BrokenMessiah1 they absolutely have a lot of major things going on. You think Sony is just paying Guerilla devs a salary for nothing? They are mad busy growing the IP.
Lol be the on the lookout for the fake ass “Nintendo fans” who hide behind Nintendo because Xbox has zero successes of their own. 😂
So xbots talking about third party and Day and date is Laughable, sure MLB is all over again.
Easy answer:
Lego is a *Franchise,
Just like MLB is a Franchise.
I have grandchildren that own the switch so I'm happy for the lego horizon is going to Nintendo because it keeps them off my ps5 😂

The Lego dev wants this. It's more a Lego game than a Playstation one. Kind of a shared ip.
Why is this dude in such denial about all of this...,🤔?? Sony is a 3rd party publisher just like Microsoft, deal with it...🤣!!
highly doubt it. Sony legally cant even do that. Sony also been pro crossplay, but still wields IP's. Technically Sony flexing with movies and games.
Thrash: "I understand business! You are customers!! Let me explain"
*goes on to explain the simple concept of licensing IP*
God! This dude is such a CEO LARPER!
Yikes...
Bruh go on the round table and debate him then 😂
@@xdjrunner pfft! I would gladly but his excuse is that he doesn't debate "nobodys"
@@samson7294
He's debated plenty of nobody's on the Roundtable. The whole point of the Roundtable is literally anyone can sit down at the table and get wrecked by the chat for thier stupid opinions. My only ask is that if you want to get your 15 minutes of fame please do your homework....the easiest people to volcano are the ones who think that they are gonna come on the podcast and think that they are gonna bullshit thier way through a sit down at the RTP!
@@samson7294 “I would gladly”.
We know you wouldn’t lmao.
@@corey_massey LOL! I will gladly go to the roundtable! You ask him why he has told people in TH-cam chat that he doesn't debate nobodys.
I will even let them 5 vs 1 debate me because we all know he wont do a 1 v 1.
No excuses though. I will respect the house rules.
Yo momma’s third party. 😂
Only reason ppl blowing this topic out of proportion is because a lot of PlayStation fanboys opening their big mouth, making fun of Xbox throughout the years, porting games to other platforms. Ppl just calling out the hypocrisy. PlayStation been porting their exclusives left and right to other platforms…. No excuse for Xbox, but tons of excuses for PlayStation.
Xbox fanboys think PlayStation is third party because they put a little kid game on Nintendo😂😂😂
I absolutely agree with you. Sony has a ton of Horizon products in the works including a TV series and they're trying to grow that brand before the heavy hitters show up. Releasing a co-op family-friendly retelling of the first game to the Nintendo Switch is a genius level move for getting non-Playstation consumers into the world and grow the Horizon IP.
Its a Lego game. It makes perfect sense to go to Nintendo. Child like game for a Child like Console. That's it. Smart on Sony for doing this. The are basically playing the law of averages. Switch has the most consoles sold. Get that money. I say. Better than going PC.
