When they put police on the red line, maybe I'll ride but if I don't have to I won't. Spring can't come soon enough cause my bike is another option
If you look at the news, it seems like so far everybody that has "confronted" someone on the trains have gotten their butts handed to them. I find it hilarious how the people that fantasize about "doing something" never have any real combat skills so it tends to gothe opposite of how they envisioned it 😂
A lot of the people that do that are in and out of jail anyway so it would barely make a difference... Some of those drug dealers you see are literally awaiting the day they have to turn themselves in and do time for a crime they've already been convicted & sentenced for.
If smoking had better regulations to let people smoke in parks or their apartments without harassment- it will slow down for sure. Go back to the smoking sections like in the 40s.
Thank you for highlighting this. It's getting worse, not better. Last night there were 17 people in one red line train smoking, in all eight cars. Regular Newports, roll ups, weed and vapes. There is NO security presence on any train in Chicago, just a small team of K9s at Roosevelt, and a useless bunch of Monterey staff at 95th, standing in a circle looking at their phones. This is the standard response you get if you contact the CTA - "Thank you for contacting the CTA. We are sorry for the situation you continue to experience on the Red Line. CTA continues to diligently remind all riders that smoking (including e-cigarettes) or carrying a lighted cigarette, cigar or pipe on property owned, operated or maintained by the CTA is prohibited. We are aware of the growing concerns from our customers about unruly behavior near and on our system. Our facilities and fleet are part of communities we serve and public safety challenges impacting these communities also impact us. The safety and security of public transit riders is the No. 1 priority for both the CTA and the Chicago Police Department, which provides law enforcement for CTA.
Please be assured that your concerns have been forwarded to the responsible management for review." They been sending out this standard response for years now, and nothing changes.

The US transit system is a cesspool. In Prague, Warsaw and Vienna there is nothing but quiet, good behavior. I saw more shady characters on the Phoenix light rail ride to the airport than my entire day working in an Arizona prison.

Look at the quality of people we are producing in our metropolitan cities. When you have Defund the Police, Liberal Prosecutors, then you have no law and order. Our cities are cesspools because of the enablers in charge.
This is why I stopped riding public transit just a few weeks ago. I have breathing challenges and it’s horrible to be traveling and get stuck with them on a car for any time before I could swap cars. After the third time I brought my car to the city with me. If you can’t get your population under control, you can have my car fumes. ✌️
I'm so tired of all vapers. It is so easy for them to vape non stop and they hide in their hands when supervisor comes or police. They do not give a damn about others if they suffer from asthma or cancer.
This is unbelievable cta if you didn't wear a mask the conductor would stop the train and tell you to put a mask on but it is okay to smoke all day a play your music on the train
Last few months i have been travelling through Asia as an European. Trains/Subway/Metro is all clean, nobody bothers you, super safe, places look nice and tidy; even at night it is super safe. I was one day in Chicago, and saw people on drugs screaming on the Blue Line from ORD to Jackson. People vaping, taking shots of Vodka and one guy even pulled a knife towards another rider because he did not want to listen to his Raptrack? The guy that pulled a knife, was so drunk he peed in the car; which went all over the car. Stations look like absolute dogshit, go into Monroe/Adams and tell me that station looks nice. The US is really a 3rd world country. I hope the Americans fix their shit. But that is wishful thinking.
A lot of problems would be fixed if using the trains required identification cards. If it’s a public transport, losing that right to use it isn’t a big deal.
I bet that the only wrong thing that does not happen on the Chicago Transit Authority rail stations is fare evasion. Smoking on the Chicago Transit Authority is poisonous and makes other people feel very uncomfortable.
Have you not seen the reports about the people getting stabbed & beat up "confronting" people on the train? Some of those people, especially the drug dealers are carrying weapons, including guns. Eight people "confront" one of them and you'll likely see eight bodies right afterwards. Just because it's one person doesn't mean they are alone either.
Second hand smoke is dangerous to everyone, especially children whose bodies are developing. There is fungus, mold and rat droppings, etc in weed, it's a plant!! It's so uneccessary, and since weed use is legal (only in your home), and smoking in CTA property is illegal then, these people should be arrested.
@ntatenarin if you have any of those, you should keep them away from CTA trains due to the crime. When you complain to the guy smoking and he stabs you that's when you grow up!
