Sulphur-crested Cockatoo in the wild

- This video of the Sulphur Crested cockatoo is all filmed in the wild. There is footage that demonstrates the cockatoos can feed of nectar like other nectivorous birds but in so doing amputate the eucalypt sprigs.
Though seed eaters they spend a disproportionate time chasing bulbous roots.
I love these birds, they visit me regularly

My sulphur is almost entirely silent. She is a quiet 6 year old soul, that one in a million bird who is just a perfect pet. Doesn't bite, doesn't scream, nothing. Almost always in a good mood, hasn't put a hole in me for a decade or more lol 😂
They are so glorious in the wild, I’ve only seen them in a cage and I HATE that! Fly free beautiful bird. Great video, thank you.
It's horrible to think of these wonderful birds in a cage, all alone, with their wings clipped. What a piece of work is a man . .
Well I buy battery chooks that way at my old address my Barry Edward Hoyes and I we built this fabulous chook house that everyone thought was a cubby house. When it was finished we invited a few people to the party from next door but they didn't really know me well and they left town.the kids built their cubby house in a Hicks mulberry tree mulberry beats boysenberry any day. I gave the kids white sand and a metal digger.
It truly is, i own a cockatoo and I don't understand why people get birds if they just keep them in a cage as if they are decorations.
I mean it's not that bad, they don't have to worry about being eaten or starving to death
Not saying you should, just let it get some exercise and attention

@@dallindespain5082 Starving how???? In nature there is a balance - life begets life! Yet flying free verses LONELY life in a cage!!! (as well many of their natural environments are cleared en masse for the wood that unfortunately ends up world wide) (fish and other species as well - some only found in niches destroyed or gone extinct) (my past research and bred certain tropical fish that were on the going gone list)
These birds are adorable when their not your neighbor's in the morning.

Thank you for sharing this! I have 2 sulfars who I rescued. Finding good dietary information is really hard, even among experts. This vid has provided me with more information than months of research
A quick post script- the dominant behaviour you were observing was probably between a mated pair. The female was actually inviting the male (i think- you know how hard it is to determine their gender) to eat something tasty and the guy decided to be a jerk about it... :)

I have one sitting on my knee right now, he was a rescue. We try and get him out as much as we could and spend time with him but I also want to try and build him a close to nature enclosure for him to roam. The only difficulty with getting it close to his natural habitat is that he will be sharing it with another rescue who is an Amazon parrot. I think their environments are a little different but they are friends.

Re wedge tail Eagles- I had a young cockatoo on my shoulder, she crested and went into hiding under me- then my daughter spotted a wedge tail about 200m away. They fear those birds greatly!

I found a beautiful tin one, painted in some overgrowth at the back of my old flat, and he Is Big dave, taking pride of place on my front porch
These birds always seem so neurotic when you see them kept as pets no matter what setup the owner has
They little bit large in australia, here in indonesia, they small and also different calls than in australia. What i notice, they dont bullied others bird, instead they fight each other. lol i love this bird

It really is wedge tailed eagles have plenty of Aussie parrot species on the menu so they are very brave or foolish or maybe a little of both .
@@seanbayley7452 Sulphur crested cockatoo are no joke. Their claws match an eagles claws and they've been known to have bitten of people's fingers and are better suited for close quarters, aerial fighting where as eagles are more designed for speed and cruising.
On the ground, a sulphur crested would win every time being more compact, faster and more maneuverable.

I think it was an ibis, commonly called a bin chicken or rats of the sky. They were common in remote, drier areas, then one drought they found the wetter coast coastal areas with garbage bins, whee they "hunt". And it seems they are now here to stay. Big white bird with a long curved beak.

Lovely birds! Big fan. Sucks the fact that in order to get the pollen they would rip out the flowers and toss them. It doesn't seem to cross their mind that they can like...lick them as they are. Unless there is a comodity issue going on. Or related to balance to prevent a fall trying to get one. God knows. I haven't slept in days because of this.
Thanks. Interesting thought. The flowers are always on fine twigs and the smaller birds like lorikeets can lick without the branches bending but the big cockatoos cannot cope with this. Especially if the wind blows preferring hand to bill coordination but I agree they could pull down a flower twig then lick.

Sulphuric crested cockatoos are most found Queensland into the Northern Territory of Australia. These are the beautiful parrots in Australia with white colored feathers with the yellow head crest of feathers. There are populations of the cockatoos in most of regions of Australia.
They make a mess of your garden and cut branches 🤦🏻♂️
They may do that but I don't find them as a problem in my garden.
