    This vid just screams 2000s. Got the NFL street music, the intro. What a vibe.

    Even tho this was a "dark" period for the Cowboys. Roy was the hi-light of the team. He ruled the field with an iron fist. This man loves to hit. He had no speed wot so ever but this video shows what Roy did every week. Thx for the post. Btw I was at the Redskins game when he got the int in the end zone.

      +G0d1e55Marcu5 I'm not really rateing him with the best at all. But when it comes to hitting, he was awesome. He really only had 2 maybe 3 really good nfl seasons. It is wot it is, the Video speaks for itself. btw it seems a lot of these hi lights are against the nfc east.

    Roy Williams had one of the best first six years in the history of football. During that time span he had the same amount of interceptions and MORE defensive TD'S then Rod Woodson had in his first six years-He had more turnovers and td's then Derron Woodson in his first 6 years-Had the same amount of total turnovers as Ronnie lott in his first six years-More interceptions and total turnovers then Brian dawkins in his first six years-He was a ball hawk who dominated his position with fear and dread. he went to five straight pro bowls and an all pro season out of the 6 years he was healthy. After his 6th year he only played 19 games in three years before he retired. He gained weight to try to accommodate for the injuries and couldn't keep up like he did in his prime years. What could have been had he stayed healthy?

    • @BeefPapa

      few qbs threw rod woodson's way back in the day. he was a shutdown corner. meaning he seldom saw the football on his side of the field.

    • @22steve5150

      He was awesome, Cliff Harris was awesome, Charlie Waters was awesome, Cornell Green was awesome, but Darren Woodson is the best safety this franchise has ever had.

    • @KaizokouOMario
      @KaizokouOMario 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was Roy’s biggest fan back in the day, but if I remember correctly after his sixth season is when the league started it’s move into the pass happy league.. teams more specifically Quarterbacks, started testing his coverage skills and he was exposed as a liability in coverage.. that’s why the Cowboys parted ways with him

    • @kasandrapurplekitten
      @kasandrapurplekitten 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      everything changed when he got married

    • @greezythumb
      @greezythumb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@KaizokouOMario Actually it wasn't any of that. Sure the horse collar rule got him a few penalties but that isn't what effect his cover skills. Many times he was blamed for Terrence Newman and Anthony Henry's blown coverage. But what did him in was two things
      1. Parcells told Jerry to find a true FS and move Roy to his natural position. Jerry didn't do it because Roy made the pro bowl. He didn't see what Bill was talking about.
      2. Wade Philips scheme. Wade version of the 3-4 (one gap) was very different from Bill's (two gap). Wade used a one gap scheme and Parcells used a 2 gap. The difference is basically the difference between a bend but not break defense and an attacking defense. Roy was an instinctual player that excelled when he was allowed to be a playmaker and Parcells recognized this even to the extent of allowing him and Woodson to switch positions as they felt to confuse offenses. Parcells could do this because of his attacking defenses putting pressure on offenses. Phillips defense, a bend but not break defense, was not suitable for Roy at all. Plus Roy needed to be moved to SS, his natural position.

    To all those saying that he was bad in coverage: Please remember that it wasn’t a problem until that Redskins game in 2005 when Santana Moss burned him twice in the 4th quarter. He was a pretty good playmaking coverage safety leading up to that game, but afterwards he was exposed. He went on to have a very good 2006 season & had a decent season in 2007 in a scheme that didn’t fit him but within that time he was getting burnt. After 2007 it went downhill, but he wasn’t a bad coverage safety within the first 3 & a half years of his career, that’s a false narrative.

    3:41 is one my all time favorite RW hits! Roy hit that RB so hard he fumbled while his momentum was completely stopped.
    Brutal hitter back in the day. In the NFL today Roy wouldn't have been so brutal. IMO I'm not talking noise about Roy but the
    rules back then weren't so strict. One of the great hitters for the Cowboys.

    ya for bout 3 years there he was an absolute beast!! but you notice when teams started figuring him out was when woodson had to retire and he has to play more coverage..you think thts a coincidence?? no! when he had woodson playn the pass he could play up on the line and make big hits on the RB QB or WR coming across the middle.... honestly he just played in the wrong era if he wouldA played in the 90s or earlier he woulda HOFer!! playing in the spread era tht he played in it requires you to play more coverage!!! check this out you know who the other safety takn first round of tht same draft after Williams was hell b a HOFer n bout 5 yrs ED REED!! he fits perfectly with the style tht the nfl plays now... n the box safeties are becoming extinct just like the true fullback

    • @thecensoredmuscle563
      @thecensoredmuscle563 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually he was one of the best ever at covering to play that position. The type of safety he played was an ideal safety back then. His coverage was on tight ends, slots, backs, everything in front of him. That's how many schemes worked for safeties, you wanted one that excelled at that, plus read the run like a monster.
      When the league changed they tried making him a modern day safety, didn't work.
      you think the modern day safety better at covering as a whole? Qbs have it easy today because safeties don't cover the field like Roy Williams anymore. As a cowboys fan, take dak Prescott. That guy would not have a career at all in the nfl if safeties still covered like Roy Williams did. Qbs can throw tons of simplistic passes far in front of safeties today. That's why qbs have such inflated stats now.
