      High School. No leading with the helmet, (unless its big TE or QB in the open 😂). Told them 3 years ago to utilize their track type speed and gauge their timing for precise impact. If possible light'em up, you need to them be thinking about where you are at all times.

    A lot of people will probably never understand how much of a game changer Williams was. He didn't just lay people out, he was out there causing fumbles, getting sacks, TFL, and intercepting passes. Quite a few of his highlights were in the clutch as well. I was certain at one point that he was going to the HOF. Too bad Woody retiring really exposed his coverage skills.

    • @thelogicalcowboy

      Roy's first 5 years were his prime years. He had 17 interceptions, three pick sixes, 9 forced fumbles, 7 fumble recoveries, 7 sacks, and over 341 tackles. Those are crazy numbers for a safety in just a 5 year span. To your point, the man wasn't just a hard hitter!

He has a play that made him famous at the time while he was at OU, if you never seen it look up OU vs Texas 2001.(You won't be disappointed.) He played his NFL career trying to live up to that play. Roy Williams (horse collar), Jason Witten (running without helmet), Emmitt Smith (Ripping own helmet off), Erik Williams (hands to the face), Michael Irvin (taunting and pushing off), Brice Butler (substitution warning), Dez Bryant (catch definition; actually PR move to cover up their own egregious failure since Bryant's catch was already legal under existing rules), Mel Renfro (player can catch ball tipped by own teammate), Deion Sanders (salary bonus rule), Marion Barber (stiff arm to face mask), Tony Romo (kicking balls monitored by officials instead of ball boys).

    He was the first official game Jersey that I bought. His Double Star jersey was my first real jersey I bought with my Christmas bonus. He and Sean Taylor were my favorite Safeties to ever play during my 42 years. And I’m a Cowboys fan since 1988, but Sean earned my respect quickly. But Roy Williams changed the league into being soft. Players could not handle how he dismantled guys and so they took his play away from him and ended his career early. All because players were too chicken to play against him.

    I dont know L. C. Roy was a hitter but he wasnt quite Cliff Harris. He didnt tackle per se. He was a hitter. He was part of that breed of DB who would hit but not tackle. He broke 2 legs in his career by grabbing shoulder pads from behind because you could beat him in man coverage. Good player yes, but how he did what he did today would be considered targeting(??i know, i know...). As for Pearson? I think he was grabbed by the jersey not his shoulder pads. With way less than a minute to play and I dont think we had any time outs, throwing the ball overvthe middle to Pearson was not a good call. Run Pearson on th route sure but then where is Tony Hill on the fky oattern up the sideline? An incomplete pas or out of bounds to stop the click (75 vs the Vikings on the 3rd down play before the Hail Mary) woukd have been smarter. youll notice jerseys began to become more form fitting in the 80s into the 90s because you could slow a guy down grabbing his jersey. Also the material is a different breed nowadays. When was the last time you saw a torn jersey? Roy Williams, vicious hitter but a "a better than average" DB. ✌️❤️🏉

    • @thelogicalcowboy
      @thelogicalcowboy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most of his losses on deep passes occurred after his prime. I'm not saying he didn't get beaten during his prime, but things started going downhill once Roy gained weight in 2007. When he was in shape from 2002-2006, there were only 2 safeties better than him in the league at that time: Polamalu and Reed. Dawkins was great, but he wasn't prime Roy. He did have a better longer career, though. Hence why he's in the hall of fame, and Roy isn't.

    Roy Williams was the reason they outlawed the “horse collar” tackle, he was often caught out of position and had to grab strong receivers by the collar of their shoulder pads and drag them down. This caused several knee and ankle injuries and ended the season once for Terrell Owens when Owens played for the Eagles.

How does the 49er playoff game in Dallas a couple of years ago turn out if we don't have all those penalties, including the first defense snap? Against bottom tier teams, the Cowboys can overcome their sloppiness and undisciplined nature, but in the big games against good teams...more often than not, the reason we lose is self-inflicted wounds.

    • @deadlyoneable

    GREAT stuff as usual Logical! I was at that game with several buddies when Roy Williams laid the lumber to Emmitt Smith. You could hear the contact clearly and the entire crowd gasped at the same time. I turned to a friend and said Emmits done, guaranteed, and he was. Sad but true. If only Roy Williams could cover he would have been the best ever. Keep up the good work my friend, I appreciate you.

    Great Video again! Roy was a great hitter and run stopper. He wasn't the best cover DB and Woodson retiring didn't help the secondary considering he lost a "should be HOF'er" partner, but in his time Roy was brutal...

  • @bigred9991

    Darren Woodson said he's never seen a player as good as Roy was his first 5 years in the league. He legit called him the best football player in the history of the NFL for his first 5 years. After they took the horse collar away and Kelly Rowland left him. He said Roy was never the same. He said he saw WR's literally not even come to the middle of the field if Roy was there. He made so many game-changing hits throughout his career that it's insane to think about. I remember when the Giants were on the 1 yard line, and they handed it off the Brandon Jacobs, and Roy met him at the line of scrimmage and made him fumble. I don't know if people remember how big Jacobs was back then. He was 6'4" and 250lbs and Roy stood him up and made him fumble.

    I just want to say part of the reason the cowboys were able to use Williams the way there were , in the box, on the LOS , roaming free in 2ndary is cuz of one of the most under rated defensive players ever. #28 DARREN WOODSON , its shame is his getting snubb on the Hall Of Fame.

    he was mostly done in by the 3-4 defense that was too small in the middle, being relied upon too much for run support. It made Roy too predictable and emptied him out of the secondary too much.
